Buying Outright Vs. Plans (Hero Deal Analysis)

The Galaxy S3 (grey market imported version) is valued at $789

Both the Vodafone and Virgin Mobile plans come in at $64 per month ($59 for the plan and $5 per month in handset repayments).

VIRGIN MOBILE PLAN ANALYSIS
With $59 Fair Go Plan you're getting $700 of calls (this would give you 623 minutes of monthly calls based on 3 minute calls) and 3GB of data per month (with the Bonus 2GB data promotion that they're running right now).

Total Cost is $1,536 and the phone is worth $789 so you're really paying $31.25 per month for the plan. Pretty good for 3GB of data per month.

Other benefits are that you get Unlimited SMS within Australia and Unlimited Virgin to Virgin calls (8-9% of the mobile population). International calls and texts are charged at higher rates (e.g. international text messages are 45c each), but when you call or text it comes out of the included value.

VODAFONE PLAN ANALYSIS
With the Vodafone $59 plan you're getting $750 of calls (this would give you 673 minutes of monthly calls based on 3 minute calls) and 1.5GB of data per month.

Total Cost is $1,536 and the phone is worth $789 so you're really paying $31.25 per month for the plan.

Other benefits are that you get Unlimited SMS (text) within Australia and to International numbers and unlimited calls to Vodafone / 3 Mobile (almost 30% of mobile phone market).

We'll keep adding plans to our comparison pages as more becomes available.

Optus have a cheaper plan for existing customers too. Also, 2 months free online.

While its not a bargain, but thanks for the post listing all the details from all carriers!

  • -1

Not really a bargain - just carriers releasing their prices

Helpful info but more of a forum post

  • +1

    where is the bargain?
please remove the thread to mobile discussion.

  • Will the "fusion" code work for this phone when Virgin release it?

  • No bargain forum topic

    No Bargain…!!!?????

  • Why is this here?

  • We've updated the post with some promo codes and explanation of where the limited time bargains are.

No, the Fusion code won't work with Virgin Mobile as this phone is not eligibly for 5 Months at 50% off.

  • This has been moved to forums.
OP, if there is a deal is for Telstra, then post a deal that links directly to Telstra.

  • Moving this to forums as its not specific, as per headline.

If there are specific bargains for a carrier then these could listed.

    • Ahah Moocher just beat me, gotta learn to touch type….
  • Post Updated with specific. All happening pretty quickly…

  • if you click 'buy now' on Telstra plan, you can change the plan to 'S' which will bring it down to $72
I wonder how much they charge for update on existing Telstra customer….

  • Nice little comparison though you should add the recent red bull pre-paid deal along with grey import, 30 months + Galaxy3 = $1519

Not only are you getting 6 months free for $17 less but you have an unlocked phone and 5gb of data per month an unlimited SMS and calls.

  • Went down to the Virgin store and he says he has in stock but can only release them after 12pm, which is now.

Shame I am on 1 more year with Vodafone. I get okayish reception outside, but at work and home - 0 bars.

  • go to telstra and get on a gs3 plan. then cancel immediately and payout the MRO. Total for the phone outright is only $672 i think. cheapest by far.

    • Can you elaborate. What is the gs3 plan? If I can use this to get out of my existing Telstra contract early and get the 1 month free it would become pretty attractive!

      • it's still $72/month. pretty high in my opinion.

        • Not if I cancel after the first month. Essentially could bring the price of the phone down to mid $500s.

        • Elaborate further. Which plan?

        • any plan.

you cancel the plan and then pay off the phone. you are only required to pay off the phone ONLY, not the value of the contract. that is how it works.

i have not tried and not interested.

  • This is interesting for 4G/LTE…Telstra say it may take several months after discussing with Samsung…hopefully sooner with this release… http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/05/30/canadian-galaxy-s-ii…
