Quite a few banks include covid as part of their travel insurance if you pay with their respective card.

    ANZ

    NAB

    Westpac

  • Accidental Death

How would you go about making a claim ?

    • +22

Dead Man's Switch that uses extended OzB inactivity as the input trigger and then fires off an email to the claims department.

      • +1

        This is brilliant.

        • Can Scotty get the devs onto it? 👍

  • +5

F these guys. Had some specialist equipment stolen by dodgy airport security in Mexico City and they refused to cover it.

    • +6

Can you share more detail please? Keen to know your experience and why they denied your claim?

    • +5

I'm guessing you didn't make a police report?

    • What kind of specialist tools we talking about?
Tools that help dig holes for drug lords to escape out of prison tools?

Or just high end camera lenses? 🤣

    • +2

Yeah this kinda story not quite helpful without context tho

  • Thanks OP, good to get some discounts on quotes.

For me and my travel dates & locations, even with the 20% off, this still comes out a bit higher than Allianz and on a par with Tick, but I'll need to do a deep-dive into the T&Cs of each one, which always takes some time and effort.

    • Please post your findings on which insurance came out best for you

      • +2

These are the quotes I got for "comprehensive" cover for six weeks in Western Europe; male aged 18-59.

        CoverMore $348
        World2Cover $281 (discounted)
        Tick $274
        Allianz $262
        RACWA $432
        SGIOWA $194 (needs further research)
        InsureAndGo $332

No coupons applied to any of them apart from World2Cover.

        • SGIOWA $194 (needs further research)

This policy doesn't cover any Covid-related claims.

        • +1

1Cover used to be my go to after a mate did a deep dive.

          • @sween64: 1Cover policies purchased after 19th November 2021 offer overseas medical coverage if you test positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) and require medical treatment while overseas. At this time we do not cover any cancellation costs or additional costs incurred because of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

I'm looking for better than this.

        • For a two week trip to Greece for 2 people I got:
          World2Cover(coupon), Top Cover: $207.81
          Allianz, Comprehensive Duo: $220

          Guess get your own quites.
          Thanks for the list :)

  • +5

I have been with them a few times, unlucky enough had to claim twice. Smooth process on both without hassle.

Just bought for another trip coming up, thanks for the code!

  • Anyone find any insurance policies which cover COVID-19 related cancellations during a multi cruise?

This the PDS in the policy does not cover it (in addition to not being covered in CoverMore, CGU) but it appears Allianz has more comprehensive coverage??

  • +5

Reviews are not very positive. Would not risk it to save a few bucks.
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/world2cover

    • +1

Bad reviews, yes, but about 50% look like people who didn't understand the terms, so who knows how world2cover really compares to other insurers…

    • +4

As always, those most motivated to review are those with negative experiences; and unsurprisingly, people don't enjoy having to make insurance claims.

There are other insurers with positive reviews on ProductReview, but a brief look indicates that these tend to be written by people who haven't needed to claim with those insurers. By contrast, World2Cover has a small number of reviews, most of which are written by people who have claimed and have complaints about their experience.

On that basis, I would speculate that the other providers actively invite customers to review their policy (whether or not they have actually needed to call on the policy), whereas World2Cover doesn't.

I have never used World2Cover and don't have any plans to, but if I were choosing travel insurance, I would focus on reading and comparing policy terms, rather than deciding on the basis of online reviews.

      • Ok, so it has now been 54 days since the start of my claim. AFCA states that insurance companies have 45 days to resolve my matter.

Everything has been supplied from the start. All receipts, payments etc.

I will call them tomorrow to give them one last chance but at this point, AVOID

Was looking at this but found Tick cheaper and better reviewed. Has covid cover. Use "finder" code for 10% off.

    • Do you know if Tick's Covid-19: Cancellation cover is just $2500 in total (for all travellers) or $2500 per person coverage?
I can't seem to find the exact wording in their PDS

World2Cover is just a $3500 combined limit for all travellers

      • Read the relevant PDS. Tick is $2,500 per insured person. World2Cover is $3,500 per adult (not a combined limit).

        • Thanks Peter

      • Since you're considering Tick, I just found that you're not covered for cancellation if it's your family member who gets COVID. Source: https://www.tickinsurance.com.au/travel-insurance/covid-19-t… (see the FAQ at the bottom).

May not be relevant for you but I'm traveling with family.

As for the cancellation cover, my guess is $2500 combined as I don't see it specifically says 'per person' in the PDS? I may missed it but I searched for 'per person' in the PDF. The excess is, however, applied per section per person. Better check directly with Tick.

It's stated at the top of the table of benefits on page 12: "The sums insured set out below are if you are travelling alone, with a partner, or with a partner and your dependent children the maximum amount we will pay under each section per insured person per trip."

The other point you make (i.e. that Tick's cancellation coverage doesn't cover family members or travelling companions) is an important one, though.

          • @PeterA07:

Tick's cancellation coverage doesn't cover family members or travelling companions

I would have thought this means if they are not on the policy? Otherwise why bother with a family policy and just take separate policies for each member.

  • Is world2cover reliable? How does it compare to Allianz?

    • +1

Well I just got diagnosed with COVID-19 and my trip is tomorrow so i'll let you know how it goes haha

      • How it goes mate?

      • yeah give us an update ? hopefully everything was fine !

        • Due to their high volume of cases, I'm still waiting for a reply :/

  • I have learned over the years that real 'value' insurance comes not with the price of the premium, but the company's attitude when a claim is made. I hate seeing 5 star reviews of insurance based solely on cost.

  • From a quick read of their PDS, it seems they don’t cover if your travelling companions (like kids) get COVID before departure and you have to cancel the trip? Same thing with Tick.

    • Would be interested to see which other companies cover kids if they get Covid and you need to cancel

      • TID says travelling companions are covered, I think Covermore covers them too.

TID clause: “ Your non-refundable pre-paid travel costs incurred if you have to cancel your trip when you or a member of your travelling party are diagnosed with Coronavirus (COVID-19).”

    • Your kids (and grandkids) are covered for free in the policy, thus if they get COVID before departure (if you have the top level of cover) you should be fine.

      • I would think so since their names will be on the certificate. I need to ask their CS to confirm it.

      • Ok, I found this in Tick's FAQ:

Can I claim for cancellation if a family member or travelling companion gets Covid-19?

Unfortunately our policies exclude any claims arising from or related to any other person being diagnosed with Covid-19.

        Source: https://www.tickinsurance.com.au/travel-insurance/covid-19-t…

Sidenote - Who downvoted me for questioning this??? It's a valid question.

        • any other person being diagnosed with Covid-19.

I would imagine that would mean any other person not listed on the policy.

  • my experience is very good so far with World2Cover. I took their travel insurance with $0 access 5 times. I was able to get full money back of my holiday, flights tickets with out any questions during COVID time (April 2020) and also i was able to get full money for my bills when was in Singapore.

  • Going to South Korea next week and surprisingly Allianz comes out cheaper than this (with discount)?

    • +2

Don't compare price. Compare the policy instead… Ie. what is covered, how much $$$ etc.

    • I am going to South Korea too. I am applying for my visa and also insurance. U decided on Allianz?

      • +1

No visa is required for Australians. Yeh I might go with Allianz, suck because I have Citibank which covers everything except anything Covid-related…

        • Why Allianz if I may ask?

    • Have you find a coupon for Allianz? I can't find a working one.

I'm planning on going with Allianz as well, I had them when I arrived in Australia (OVHC cover) and was happy with it.

      Thanks

    • Just be careful about the point with the medical adviser for Allianz since you may have to quarantine in South Korea without needing treatment for covid diagnosis.

We’ll reimburse your reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses3 up to the limit shown in the Table of Benefits for the Plan you have selected, if you meet each of the following three conditions:

You have purchased Single or Multi-Trip Comprehensive or Domestic Travel Insurance.
You or your travel companion can’t continue your journey because you are positively diagnosed with COVID-19.
You need immediate and continued treatment from a medical adviser3.

  • Got this for an upcoming trip to the US with my wife. Cover seems pretty comprehensive, hopefully won't need to claim anything.

  • Timely for my trip to Asia, thank you.

  • Nice. Paid full price but still within my cooling-off period so I'll give em a call. Ty for posting!

  • does anyone a travel insurance that will cover covid sickness and border closures? domestic only.

    • Yeah. This deal unless mistaken

  • Hey guys, I was also looking at travel insurance with good COVID cover; if you can get an ANZ credit card, you can get COVID cover up to $20k for free.

  • Also this is good because, as some people have posted other providers above, I went to go do one for my mum with allianz and it said if you have any pre exiting conditions that they need to perform a medical assessment. We are leaving soon so this isn't possible for us. This world2cover one includes several pre existing conditions already…

  • Just a note that according to the PDS, only World2Cover's 'Top Cover' includes Covid coverage. The Annual Multi-Trip Cover, while having mostly the same benefits as the Top Cover, does not include Covid.

  • +1

The deal is marked as expired but it still did work for me this morning

  • Not good for cruisers.
"Please note we do not cover any losses related to COVID-19 whilst on a multi-night cruise and/or any loss arising from or related to travel or related to travel on a multi night cruise. This applies even if you have purchased a policy which include benefits for COVID-19 or if you select the cruise option"

  • Ok, so it has now been 54 days since the start of my claim. AFCA states that insurance companies have 45 days to resolve my matter.

I will call them tomorrow to give them one last chance but at this point, AVOID

    • Guess what, after threatening to file a complaint with AFCA, they immediately resolved my claim.

Also was able to get activities costs refunded which is nice.
