ANZ Black/Platinum/Travel Adventures Credit Card: Complimentary International & Domestic Travel Insurance (Now with COVID Cover)

3560

Just saw that as of the 28th of April ANZ has now included comprehensive COVID cover in its travel insurance. Was looking for travel insurance for my parents whom were going to pay $900 through Covermore for their upcoming trip when I saw that their ANZ Credit Card now has similar cover included. If this belongs in the forum mods please feel free to move. AFAIK it is the only Bank to offer relatively comprehensive complimentary COVID cover.

You only need to spend $250 in travel, accommodation, taxes, tour, or transports costs to activate cover.

Eligable Cards-

ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum
ANZ Frequent Flyer Black
ANZ Rewards Platinum
ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures
ANZ Rewards Black
ANZ Platinum

For those that can't get credit cards ..
I have gone through this place to get travel insurance.

    https://www.thewisetraveller.com/

Its a Singaporean company which is underwritten by Allianz.

Prices are good.. and it includes automatic cruise cover .. which nearly every other company i have looked at wants to charge you extra for it.

Thankfully, when I did have coverage, I didn't need to use them… But I'll be joining up again for some holidays coming up.

    Hope this helps :)

    • +1

Does it cover accomodation as well as medical costs? Covid cover usually only covers the former.

    • Thanks for this. But given its a Singaporean company their website is pretty dire/dodgy looking.

      • If your looking for local paid cover check out- Go Insurance (not to be confused with Insure&Go)

  • Does anybody know what the third term of travel insurance eligibility.

    1. you have a return overseas travel ticket before leaving Australia;

Do I need an actual return ticket flight or can I book two seperate one way flights.
I plan to buy a one way flight out of Australia and use Qantas points for my return flight. I will be spending over $250 and have booked both flights before I leave Australia.

    • +1

I believe you are fine with 2 one way tickets as long as you have you return one way award flight booked before you leave Australia. Best to call ANZ (Allianz) for confirmation.

    • A ‘return ticket’ is actually just 1 x outbound and 1 x inbound ticket. There’s no distinction as far as visa is concerned, and the tickets themselves stand by themselves.

  • From what I read if you purchase your airfares with the Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard customers can still get access to complimentary international and domestic Travel Insurance. Eligible family members can be included and it has Covid cover included.

Limited medical and cancellation costs compared to ANZ and no cover for accomodation or meals etc due to Quarantine for COVID unlike ANZ which can add up overseas last minute-

      Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard

The insurance generally does not cover the following COVID-19 related events:

travel disruption due to border closures, such as the cost of additional accommodation or missed flights; and
      additional costs due to quarantine.

    • Note you may be required to pay a CC surcharge when booking flights using it and that can be way more than actual travel insurance.

  • Will this cover my wife who is on a permanent partner visa?

    • Longest hour of my life

      • I'm running away with your wife

  • I have the ANZ black travel credit card for the last 3 years, does this apply to existing card holders?

    • Yes

  • Bugger, I closed the credit card last week.. 😓

    • +1

Likewise, i just closed the black rewards card… but i have applied the black gff card as well. Looks like a good timing. Glad i did it

  • What if the ANZ CC holder is over 81 yo? Would it still cover?

    • +1

No. PDS says cardholder must be under 80

      • Actually you can be 80 and and be covered. Its under 81-

        1. you are aged under 81 years at the time you become eligible for the cover available by meeting conditions 1 to 3 listed above.
  • Off to Vietnam in August and I have already purchased international and internal flights.

Is it worth contacting the accommodation which I have already booked and asking if I can pay in advance? That would activate the travel insurance right?

Also, would this cover my Dad on the trip or is it for spouses and dependants only?

Thinking of cancelling my Rewards Adventure card later this year… Maybe I'm staying after all for at least another year. Just maybe!

    • I was thinking the same as yourself as I personal have the Travel Adventures card to.

sounds great but after our experience of a break-in & theft of partner's handbag and reporting it stolen to ANZ

then a couple days later the crim went into ANZ Canberra branch and said 'oh I found my handbag - can you reopen the account?' - 16yo teller did so

then crim walked outside to the ATM and emptied the account -

we will never have a bank account with ANZ again.

There may be a reason they're offering more than the other banks - think about it with the above in mind …

    • +1

I hope ANZ took responsibility for that.

  • Had booked an international ticket last month for a flight in July using my ANZ platinum. Am i eligible?

    • Give them a call and check, only way to be sure.

      • +1

It won't be quick, see comment below :)

On hold for 1 hour and 30 minutes so far to these guys :(

    • No luck trying to call them on 1300 135 271 :(
"One of our consultants will be with you shortly"…

  • Is Bankwest Platinum Black still the best fee free credit card with travel insurance?

  • Isn't this only valid when cardholder is one of the travellers? So if you only book your parents' travel with it, it won't be covered? Curious.

    Anyone ever use this insurance?
I had a product that included Allianz insurance and I submitted all documents and they said they will get back in 2 weeks. It's been 5 months now.
    They don't respond.

    • Correct your parents need to have their own ANZ card when travelling.

    • Card holder, spouse, kids covered. Well it used to be..check the new PDS

  • I'm looking at spending 3 months in Europe soon and I don't have a credit card, but want to get one specifically for travel usage.

Can anyone give advice on which card would be best, with comprehensive travel insurance and no conversion fees, with the smallest annual fee (or fee free) for the first year?

I plan on ditching it when I get back and I don't have to worry about interest. I'll compliment it when over there with my Citibank or Macquarie Visa Debit cards.

    Thanks.

    • Also interested just for knowledge. As i read EU chip cards and different and people had issues of cards not working. Wonder if those online questions were mostly from Americans with diff tech used in cards vs what's used in Oz

      • +1

Since I consider ANZ to have the only (currently) truly Comprehensive Travel Insurance with COVID cover you would be restricted to their cards.

Luckily they have one that fits your requirements IMO-

        https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/travel-…

The Travel Adventures card is eligible for this new COVID Insurance, has No International transaction Fees, and yearly fee is only $120.

  • For people using this to travel overseas as its needed to entre some countries how do you show "proof" of cover when the cover is automatic and no certificate is generated?

    • +2

You need to call them and get them to write up a letter for you.

    • +1

You can obtain written confirmation of eligibility for cover for your overseas journey based on the answers you give us, by applying online at:

      www.checkyourcover.com.au/anz.

If you provide us with incorrect answers to the questions we ask you, you may not be eligible for cover under the group policy issued to ANZ.

      • +1

I think I tried that over the weekend and at the final screen it says you need to call them?

Consultant I spoke with said you used to be able to do it yourself online via that link, but some genius removed that ability and now they were getting and influx of calls for people asking for this.

        • Thanks for the update. The phone call it is.

        • Did you call them? How long did it take to get letter from them? I have been waiting since last 3 days

          • +2

@ujwols: Yes I did call them, think I actually had to call them twice as the letter didn’t arrive after 2 weeks. After the second call it was processed quite quickly.

  • My daughter (Uni student with no income) wants to travel to Japan for 6 weeks. If I travel with her for the first 2 weeks and purchase air tickets or hotel using the ANZ card (with I returning back to Australia after the 2 weeks), will she still be able to be covered by the travel insurance for the entire period of 6 weeks? Obviously, she cannot apply for her own ANZ card as she doesn't have any income!

I remembered that we I claim for travel insurance years ago, they need to see the principle card holders' travel itinerary.

    Thanks

    • If you spend 3 wks probably she’ll be covered for the rest of her trips

  • +1

If I remember the PDS correctly, you would have to complete at least 50% of the time on the trip with her. YMMV

  • I have another idea, it seems from reading the Insurance pds that a card holder include the additional supplementary card holder under my account, so my daughter could use the card to purchase the air-tickets/hotel accommodation and get the Travel Insurance cover; even without me traveling with her?

    Thanks

    • That seems correct if she is a supplementary holder. Best to double check with ANZ/Allianz.

  • +1

I accidentally clicked the associated box when replying to a message. I am not. How do I removed the tag?

    • Thanks Mods for fixing.

  • Having credit card insurance vs standard travel insurance is it worth getting travel insurance on it own?

    • +1

Read the PDS, if it covers your travel circumstances then stick with the card, if not and stand-alone via the PDS has the features you need go with that.

  • Can someone please confirm that the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card is the only card which has all this insurance and has no international/overseas transaction fees? The points with cashback should cover the fee as well so looks to be a good card.

    • +1

yep, which is why I got the same card recently

      • Great thanks. I got the regular platinum without first checking international transaction fees. Will see if I can upgrade to the travel one

    • +1

I signed up for the ANZ Rewards Platinum, just because they waive the annual fee for the first year if you spend $1500 in the first 3 months. Paying for part of my overseas trip, so it's covered by the insurance.

All expenses overseas are going on another card with no international/overseas transaction fees (Coles Rewards)

Just want to say a big thank you to the OP. Thanks as having huge issues finding cover as my wife and I are travelling to Europe separately (most of the way due to Qantas award flight availability). We’re both travelling with one of our 2 children and then switching for the way back. Didn’t think any of this would be an issue until I tried to buy insurance and checking PDS’s you need to be travelling together 100% of the time. This is the only insurance I’ve seen that is flexible on this (only 50%) and it’s free as I booked one of the flights on the card!

  • I’ll be travelling with my elderly but not dependent mother. Would we both be covered by the policy if I have a card, or will she need to get her own card or seperate insurance?

    • keen to know this as well as I'm on the same boat. From memory with Citibank she needs to have her own card but maybe ANZ is more lenient.

      • She will need to have her own card. Dependents are 21 years old and younger. You could add here as a Supplementary Card Holder I believe and she would then be covered.

  • +2

NAB have just added similar travel insurance on their cards.

  • I just got this card but I have already booked for flights and hotels last month. Unfortunately I cannot cancel them. Any tips on how to trigger the travel insurance?

    • +1

You only need to spend $250 in travel, accommodation, taxes, tour, or transports costs to activate cover.

      • +1

Just book some return transfers from the airport (just confirm with Allianz that it is applicable spend), even if it’s luxury transfers just as long as it’s $250 or more as it will still be cheaper that paying for a standalone policy in most cases.

        • Accomodation doesn’t count? Is $250 specific for ANZ?

          • @macr0hard: Accomodation does count but he said he already purchased it.

  • Does this include girlfriend if you are travelling with them?

I am travelling to the US with my mom at the end of the year. I have a ANZ Card and my mum has a secondary card attached to it. Will she be eligible for the complimentary insurance? Will we have to spend $500 on travel expenses on each card, or will just $500 on mine be enough to active the insurance for both of us?

  • +3

I just used this on my trip to Thailand. Got really sick with traveller's diarrhoea and had to go to hospital. Visit cost me $1000, but with this insurance I only paid the $350 excess.

  • Anyone knows if this includes cruise cover? I can't find any cruise exclusion it in the PDS.

    • I think it does, I went on a cruise last October and when I called them they did indicate it was included.

Just call them to double check? I can’t remember where it was in the PDS but when I was researching it I came to the conclusion it was included.

      • Thank you, will do.

  • Fairly big changes to come in June. One is Platinum card will be 3 month cover (instead of 6 month).
