Hiring a commercial kitchen in Perth

Hi all,

I am looking at undertaking a charitable/non-profit endeavour.

I will require the use of a commercial kitchen twice a week (initially) from approx 9 until approx 2pm. It will be for basic cooking classes/food preparation for disadvantaged people who have no clue on how to cook. Food would be prepared and eaten on premises on the day, but not taken away.

I have one facility in mind, but want to see if anyone has any ideas on the types of organisations that may have a kitchen that is available during those times. One of my friends suggested Bowls Clubs.

So I am looking for two things. One would be a general type of organisation to consdier approaching. Like bowls clubs. Second would be a specific organisation/facilty that may be available for hire. This would be in Perth.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

  • I think that your best bet could be to ask around the OT depts of your local community health/rehab facilities.

OT's regularly use cooking classes as therapy tools, so not only can they point you in the right directions facility wise, but they might also be able to offer some help or support with infrastructure/session planning/setup etc; or even roll your group into one of their existing ones! :)

Public liability insurance issues might unfortunately be a real pain for clubs etc, even if they are willing/able to help out (due to our increasingly litigious society).

Good luck with it though, it sounds like a worthy cause!

    • Thanks stewy.

  • If it's for charity, perhaps try enquiring at your local community centre in your area? A friend once held her birthday party at the community hall in Bentley and they seem to have a commercial kitchen.

    • That's a good idea. What we want is a facility in either the cbd area or a lower socioeconomic area near the train line. If anyone knows a suburb with a centre that fits the bill, we'd love to hear about it.

  • I'd start by phoning the local government offices (ie town councils). They will have people who know all about the facilities available.

  • Try Cooks Cookout in Victoria Park, they have 2 commercial kitchens for hire and has amenities such as disable toilets and ramps. I guess it would be fitting for your students. Good rates by the hour and very good for volunteers and charity clubs as they get special rates.just google then up

    • Wow. That's fantastic. Thanks
