  • any difference between 1.0 vs 2.0?
    significant improvement???

    • +6

I think 2.0 just means stereo, no sub rather than a version. Unless you're having a laugh.

      • +1

…and if you're having a laugh, it still means that but haha? :-)

        • +2

Well I suppose 1.0 is one speaker only and 2.0 is… two only speakers? That makes sense, don't it?

Edifier Airpulse A300 Hi-Res Audio Active Speaker System 1099 was 1599

  • Currently $736 at Amazon too;
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07NP3CS11

  • +1

Just make sure you check the dimensions on these bad boys… they are really big and you'll need a decent amount of desk space if you were considering these. Sound quality is amazing. I had to sell as they were taking up too much room.

    • +2

These aren’t made for near field fyi. If you do choose to use them on a desk you should definitely check they fit

      • Yeah, but when you they mention bookshelf, you start to think that it can be near you. Either way, these speakers are amazing.. the louder the music goes, the drivers really take the sounds to another level.

  • Got these for $640 about a year ago. Been really happy with them. Great sound quality. One thing that is annoying though is that everytime you turn them on, they go back to the default volume and sound setting. They don't "remember" what you had it on last. Ridiculous that a $700 pair of speakers doesn't have this feature.

    • +1

I just leave them on….. yea I got them when there were at $540 2 years ago. Prices have been high for a while now.

    • 700 for active speakers is not exactly premium.

    • I never knew about the volume resetting until tonight and i've had mine for quite some time.

      • +1

EQ too (and bass/treble dialed in on the remote I think?). For some reason they default to "classic" EQ.

  • you can get better sound at half the price

    q acoustics + douk/fosi/nobsound class D amplifier + gumtree home theatre sub

    • +2

Is that because YOU bought the Q Acoustics? Or the Fosi amp? Or the Gumtree sub?

      • +1

Of course q acoustic or kef with sub will sound better

        • +2

Yeah you never know - i have some wharfedale crystal 4.1s for my HT and I'll tell you what, they are not 'better' than my Edifier P17s which cost $60 bucks and can create room thumping bass.

Guarantee you that these s3000 pros would better than most bookshelf, amp, dac, combos - people are looking down on Edifier when in reality it beats most of the competition.

Of course these are not studio monitors and cannot compare to genlecs or whatever, but you'd bet your ass that these are better than anything else in the $700 price range.

          • +1

@BargainHunterJohnnyB: Bass isn't the only measure of speakers. I have a pair of P17s and some Wharfedale Diamond 7.1s and they are just leagues ahead. The P17s are so boomy and lack a lot of detail and accuracy at higher frequencies. The DIamonds do this much better.

            • @Void: Well yeah and the crystals are not bad in that department either, they do sound good - but the Edifiers are worth every penny of $60 and with the right EQ they sound GREAT.

              • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I had and sold the edifier 1700s, to me they were only acceptable for audio books. Sound quality is subjective not to mention we all have different levels of hearing

                • @mlburnian: Well yeah and you're allowed to have an opinion - which speakers do you have at the moment if i may ask?

                  • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Q350s and kube8b

                    • @mlburnian: Damn, the Q350s ARE a good speaker, although i'd optimally want the Q550 towers…

How much did you pay for the speakers and sub and which amp are you using?

                      • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: About 700 for speakers and 600 for sub. Running wxa 50, which I got for under 500. Same setup now would be much more. Unfortunately not a good time to be buying hifi gear

                        • @mlburnian: So you're comparing a nearly 2000 dollar hifi set up with these 700 dollar edifiers? That's better sound for wayyy over twice the price!

      • i presume these edifiers would have the same TI chips, the price/performance is insane so it makes sense that they'd be using them - so in the end it really comes down to the speakers themselves, are q acoustics going to produce better highers and mids than the edifier, will a dedicated sub beat them lower

now if you want a couple of bookshelf speakers, all in one unit and don't really care much about the sound quality then i am sure the edifiers are a nice solution

but if you are an ozbargainer and want the best bang for buck - and i'd argue much better sound, then what i am suggesting is worth at least considering

        • Which model q acoustics are you referring to?

    • You could get better for the same price as your gumtree stuff if you fox some broken stuff yourself you buy dirt cheap on fb marketplace. Reality is these are incredible value for money, they have a huge amount of control around the lower end, much better control than a cheap sub from gumtree and q acoustics. Different sound signatures.

Which model of q acoustics have 6.5inch drivers with planar tweeters? As far as I know the only ones you will get, the cheapest ones will not compete at all.

      • entry level q acoustics sound phenomenal for the price but they are a bit weak on low frequencies, depending on what you listen too you probably need to support them

so something like a sony home theatre sub will do a decent job and save you a bundle of cash but if you want to take it to the next level then sure, spend more on larger bookshelf speakers and pickup a 2.0 amp instead imho

unless of course you just want everything in an all in one solution then maybe the edifiers are perfect, it all depends, options are always good

        • It would need to be a small sun to add to the mid to lower end the q acoustics don’t have, which subs can’t do. It would just be all bass and become muddy.

So really for $600 you can’t go wrong with these guys unless you like other brands and loads of bass heavy music.

          • -1

@onlinepred: largely depends on the sub, you'd be surprised by what a throw away 8" sony sub sounds like with one of these class d amps

          • @onlinepred: LOL even the cheapest q acoustics cost as much as these + an amp, let alone the more expensive ones - then take into consideration the DAC, etc and these are pretty darn good for a beginner.

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: q acoustics are less than 300 on amazon, an amp is 100

              • @desync: To be frank, that won’t sound better than these. I’m sure you like the sound from them with a certain amp and a cheap sub, but that’s only for you. These speakers will please more right out of the box, and be cheaper. How long did you own the edifiers?

              • @desync: Yeah those q acoustics look a bit small, i'm not sure if they'd be able to match the much larger and heavier speakers from edifier.

Notice Bluetooth and Studio used together. Wouldn't the bluetooth be a bottleneck in the transmission of HD audio?

    • +1

I think they just threw every word they could into the title to get more hits.

    • Yeah, I've seen other listings describe them as "audiophile" and "monitor". I wouldn't call them either, but they sound great.

    • +1

You can use optical input, an RCA input, a USB input, a coaxial input, and even two XLR inputs.

Bluetooth 5.0 chipset from Qualcomm, and built-in apt-X HD high-definition audio decoder, supporting lossless transmission up to 24bit/192KHz sampling rate.

  • I've got a Logitech Z623 speaker set (two speakers and a sub) for my PC. They sound OK but the volume knob has become crackly whenever you turn it… I think they have seen better days. Can these Edifier speakers replace the Z623? The Z623 has a good amount of bass and still sounds OK but wondering if these S3000's would be comparable or better

    • +1

Would be much better than logitechs

      • These are not 'audiophile' (whatever that means?), but these are certainly a step above a 'noise maker' such as the z623, although even these are great speakers for applications such as gyms, etc.

        • +1

Many audiophiles have rated these very high for the price bracket fyi. Not every audiophile needs their ideal setup, and can enjoy many other speakers in different ways.

          • @onlinepred: I meant that the Z623 are great for the garage, party, or home gym - the s3000 pros are pretty audiophile IMO, maybe not in the opinion(s) of people who spend 5K on KEF r3s and the matching subwwoofer

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: The s3000pro are very relaxed and will suit many more people compared KEF for instance. They will sound MUCH better than the logitechs at a party, replacing a soundbar, as a HiFi stereo. Maybe not in a garage lol, just use anything for that.

              • @onlinepred: Well yeah and these are like $400 used whilst the z623 are practically free on gumtree.

They probably sound as good as Q150s with a sub and amp, but cost 3 times less.
