Hey Everyone
Just bought a new 256GB Micro SD for my Switch from this deal -

I already have a 128GB Micro SD in my switch which I’m upgrading from. I thought it would just be easier to put in the new SD card and re-download all my games that are digital again.

What I’m wanting to know is, where are all my save files kept? I tried googling it and it said to go to settings and cloud data but when I do it says I need to be subbed to Nintendo online. So I press B to escape this and it just takes me back to settings and I can’t access my saves

If anyone can help me on the above be great

It's stored on the system itself, or if you buy the online subscription, some games save to the cloud.

Where is game save data stored?

On Nintendo Switch, game save data is stored on the console’s System Memory. This will not change whether downloadable software or software from a game card is being played.

Game save data cannot be saved or copied to a microSD card.

    • Ok thank you

Now why can’t I access it? It keeps asking me to join Nintendo online which I use to sub to but not anymore. I can’t access the menu otherwise

The easiest way to swap SD cards would be to format the new sd card on the switch and copy everything inside the Nintendo folder from the old card on a PC.

    • Yer I read about this but unfortunately it doesn’t work great with a Mac so I’m just downloading again

My big question now is why do I need to be subbed to online to access my saves?

As long as you format the new card on switch, the fs should be compatible. Simply moving the files without fs level operation shouldn't differ between a Mac or a PC.

You don't, all saves are saved on the actual console.
