With price rises from 1 August, how much is your electricity usage charge increasing?
I received an email from my provider yesterday, with usage rates increasing by 33%.

Fact check. Canberra is NOT a "nett exporter of electricity". What Canberra did was sign contracts with three solar farms in the ACT and a number of wind farms in SA, Victoria, and NSW to supply it with renewable power. That, in a time of power prices spiking, has turned out to be a good decision. But don't confuse the fact that it has contracted for more power than it uses, and can make a profit by reselling what it isn't using, but don't confuse that with it being a nett exporter. It is simply selling what it doesn't need to import.
either way, kudos to that minister/team
So it has purchased more production capacity than it needs and sells what it doesn't use at a profit but it's not an exporter because not all of the electrons were specifically generated within the ACT's borders, just purchased from within them and then sold at a profit outside of them?
OK, guess I'll just sit here and enjoy my 1.25% ActewAGL cut anyways while you die on some weird technical hairsplitting hill
Aww, downvotes from ACT Liberal stooges
How good was the election fellas
And the other one too
Say hi to Zed for me
Taken by itself the last two sentences of Gordon D's post = net exporter.
Last month I got an email that they're putting the rates up over 100%. I've switched and they're probably up 25% from my previous provider pre-rate-up.
+36%, Victoria, Reamped Energy
Iām surprised ReAmped only went up 36%. Based on what they were saying, youād think prices would have doubled
yes i am surprised too, perhaps they knew it wouldnt go as high as double but had to instil a sense of urgency in customers. either way, i'm grateful i switched onto a 12-mo fixed rate contract
Prices increased 1st July, I haven't heard anything about another price increase 1st Aug. Anyway you need an option for 0 as I locked my price for the next year just prior to the July increase so have postponed the July increase for now.
i think it might vary from state to state. i do remember 1 aug was the regulated wait for some providers/states
Now that I can't afford Lettuce or Milk, I figure I'll sell my Fridge and buy UHT,
I'll save by using less Electricity and put the Fridge money towards an Energy Efficient Globe and put the rest into the Bitcoin BRR (Winter) and HOT (Summer).
Unfortunately unless you're drinking 1L at a time, UHT required refrigeration after opening.

with tango, haven't been told about a rise, on the website it says,
Distributor
United Energy
Daily charge (Ā¢/day)
66.000
Peak rate (Ā¢/kWh)
30.206
inclusive of GST, I pay less according to my latest bill
Same. With tango and havnt been informed of any price hikes yet and im on a plan from 2+ years ago.
rates are:
Peak 20.680 c/kWh inc GST
Supply Charge 66.000 c/day inc GST
Distributor United Energy
Same boat. Plan of 2plus years. Always cheaper then the other places when I check for comparison
my rates havent changed much, but the supply has shot up about 25%
None. Jumped onto a Lumo fixed deal pre-EOFY.
Victoria:
AGL residential from 1st Aug.
Peak -3c kwh (that is a minus)
Off peak -2c kwh (that is a minus)
Supply charge +16c per day
Energy Australia small business
Peak -0.5c
Supply charge +4c per day
Are going to explain why the power company is paying YOU to take THEIR electricity when rates for many people are roughly 23-30 c kwh, or are you just going to dump this here and leave with no explanation? And if it's solar FIT or similar, then you're just being annoying - that's not you being paid to THEIR electricity, that's them paying you to take YOUR electricity (as you are providing them with a service), and you need to provide the rate you pay when the sun is not shining / wind isn't blowing / battery is flat.
Sorry I mean the rates are going down by that amount vs previous rates.
With price rises from 1 August, how much is your electricity usage charge increasing?
OP ask how much is it increasing. Not what the actual rates are. So read it accordingly.
maybe if you STOP with the weird BAPTIST shouting they MIGHT
Or you could read it again slowly, and then read the question, and then read it slowly again, then think about why there might be negative numbers
LOUD NOISES
i hopped onto a 12 month fixed price contract with energy australia back when reamped was harping on about their prices skyrocketing. looking now on energy australia's website i can't find plans with fixed rates any more, only variable rates š¤
I noticed that too. Happened in a matter of days. I was looking at small business rates. Turns out that peak is going down by 0.5c and supply charge is up 4c per day.
I think the generators AGL/EA are probably offsetting their rates with what they are making on generation. They can't argue to charge people spot prices and then making a killing on the wholesale markets too.
yes, yet fixed rate plans aren't available anymore… would too many people on it hurt their bottom line perhaps?
Globird, >65%. Changed to Lumo pre EOFY to lock in their rates which were 15% higher than my old Globird rates, but a lot better than what Globird was about to start dishing up.
Same Domingo letās be friends
Globird definitely has something weird going on, like they hoping all their early customers are lazy and just pay up.
Don't think that strategy is going to work for them with the gov paying $250 to see how much they are f'ing you over loll
Beware comparison websites - use the AU Gov Energy website only so you find the best deal
I've always used the 'Energy Made Easy' government website for comparisons (https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/) but recently used https://wattever.com.au/compare/ after the moving from ReAmped and found their results to have found better deals.
WOW ~ THATS MUCH BETTER
1. SOLAR
2. BATTERY
3. EV
AWESOME THANKS AND DID A THUMBS UP! Lucky the results just confirmed Id found the best plan…
In WA we're daddy Mcgowan smartly secured 15% of all exports for state use as a clause on energy companies we don't have this issue, in fact he's given us $400 (for the second time in 3 years) back.
Also my PV panels minimise any fluctuations anyway, even if Sky news and the Murdoch empire thinks that PV panels are the devil and that nuclear is the only option etc. etc. they can continue to subsidise my energy needs for all i care.
You are aware that the Synergy per kwh rate went up as well yes? So they giving us a $400 credit which is covering up the fact the kwh and daily price have both gone up.
But we're largely insulated from the exhorbitant price rises over east. Thank god for no privatisation.
Along with license, rego and public transport fees…
Also anyone installing solar these days to export has to go on DEBS which effectively halves what you would have been paid via the already low REBS.

That was implemented in ~2006 by the Gallop state governmentā¦
Probably should've said it was was a Labor policy.
Yet another great policy up there with Medicare.
Not much at all. Its all fear mongering, same as this sudden "outbreak" of corona. Its all just fear fear fear these days
The poll needs an option for a decrease. My usage went down by 4.5% whilst the daily charge went up 10%. This is on Origin.
-4.5% fits in the <5% category
Not as much as itās going to I suspect..
We need to do a major change in our energy system in 5 years instead of 15 because of the previous bunch of Wāļø.
Itās going to be lumpy folksā¦..
My take is that most of us can look at demand management. And also really consider this if we renovate or buy, as well as options if we rent. Itās one of the few things we can actually have some control.
Not at all, I live in the ACT which is a net exporter of electricity and our chief minister cleverly signed long term contracts for stable energy prices. We would have been paying more than the average if energy prices were low but with the current high prices it has done very well š
