  Its all marketing ploy to get you to spend more for the same item. Such as "$79 128gb memory card for nintendo switch" vs $39 128gb sandisk memory card

    I've got 8gb 2666Mhz soldered in the other slot. Do you think there's any benefit with 3200 for me? They're the same price right now.

      Read up on your device's disassembling manual, it will usually list the compatible parts.

      Crucial RAM Checker is also a good tool.

      Most likely there will be no benefit in buying the faster speed as it will run at lower frequency to match your other RAM. However, if they are the same price, there is no reason not to buy the faster one. In the future, you can take the RAM out and put it into a newer laptop which can support the speed.

    How hard is it too install in the new models? I have 2020 Air with 8gb RAM and would be interested in upgrading if it's a simple process. I have lots of experience swapping out RAM in the old models, but nothing requiring soldering

        That's what I figured, I just wasn't sure if they're starting to have to make these things more repairable like what's happening with iPhones. It'll be a great day when that happens.
