  I haven't seen the first series, but I've seen a lot of the later series, and I've got series 2 on DVD.

  In each episode, Indy meets a well-known historical figure or gets involved in some famous event (sometimes rather improbably, but hey, it's Indiana Jones after all), in a fairly continuous personal chronology. Series one is Indy as a young boy, travelling with his father. Series two is Indy somewhat naively going off to volunteer in the Belgian army in WWI. Series three is Indy, now with the beginnings of his trademark dry wit and slightly jaded world view, getting tangled up in events of the 20s and early 30s.

  It might be best described as a semi-educational series aimed toward uncommonly bright, young teenagers. If this was you, you may still find it entertaining as an adult. The production values are quite high for a TV show, the writing doesn't make me cringe (sometimes it's actually good), the performances are solid, and the stories are usually engaging (even if they do sometimes require a lot of suspension of disbelief). And hey, you might learn something.
