Felix Mobile as Home Internet?

Is there anyone here using Felix Mobile as home internet? Im thinking of ditching Tangerine 25Mbps (60 bucks/month) for Felix mobile unlimited 20Mbps (35 bucks/month) and just tether internet to my tv and my home PC (as well as my mobile etc).

Reasons to do it: much cheaper, getting rid of all the ugly modem from the living room with all its stupid cables
Reasons not to do it: 20% slower (still decent enough to use netflix, torrent etc I guess), possible limitations imposed by the carrier

Few questions for whoever may have tried this:
Can we download torrent on it? (I guess if not we can always use a VPN for it)
Can I tether it to multiple devices at the same time? Any caps?
Does the SIM work on a 4G modem?
In alternative, I was thinking of buying a cheap mobile phone to use as 4G modem and hotspotting. Any suggestions?

Cheers

let me perform my tarot reading..

    • So as long as it stays in a phone, you should be OK?

Does the SIM work on a 4G modem?

Are you saying you wanna put your 4g sim into the modem?

    • If you put the Felix sim in a modem they will detect that and you will get kicked

keep it in the mobile and either HOTSPOT from the mb to TV, laptop, tablet… your golden
OR buy a GL.iNET GL-MT300N-V2 and plug in the mobile, it will charge and you can tether data to the modem and it can share it

You can also scan and extend the mb wifi network and have the GL.iNET via ethernet to the TV

      • is there any advantage in using the GL.iNET GL-MT300N-V2 over simply hotspotting from a mobile phone?

  • gee, felix mobile sucks. i can't use my xiaomi mobile phone with them, even if it wanted to https://felixmobile.com.au/terms-policies/device-list

You actually use your Felix 4G simcard to make calls lolz

    • Oppo A52 not on that list too. One of the most popular budget phones out there I assume.

    • scored a $40 WWs Moto E7 4gb/64gb and its on the list and its a nice mobile and works on V, so works on Felix

  • Does the SIM work on a 4G modem?

Works in 3G/4G and 5G modems, works on mobile phones and one can wifi hotspot their mobile to turn into a wifi modem

Can we download torrent on it?

People have reported downloading in excess of 500gb data per month,.. even chat support guy I spoke too stated his using Felix mobile to download over 500gb of data per month, I'm sure there is a point we're one will be warned and or banned going to crazy with excessive downloading of data, let us all know if your one of them pretty please 👍😁🤣

  • Go for it.

Beware its on a netstats like system where the amount you can download to be banned changes every month.

This is why some have been banned on 300GB during covid and some have not been banned doing 800GB per month in recent months.

  • Can we download torrent on it? (I guess if not we can always use a VPN for it)

    Nice try ASIO

I tried it. It worked with my rooted Telstra Modem. I just wouldn't want abuse the internet with them.

    • How is this going now assuming you're still with Felix? Any issues with using your Felix SIM in your Telstra Modem?

      • My in laws used it for about a month without issue. Haven’t used it since… cancelled the service. It may work…

  • I live in regional town of NSW. Reception is main issue you probably get. But when i travelled to Sydney, it worked fine as advertised. constant 15~20mbps (good for 1080p youtube no lag and some competitive mobile gaming). Hotspot via mobile or via 4g modem both works, but will be split capped speed. i did reach ~200GB per month once, and no complaints.

  • FYI… the Vodafone $65 (-20CR/$85) ULTIMATE plan has UNLIMITED data at full speed (20-150Mb/s 4G and 20-300Mb/s 5G) ~ they dont enforce data 30 tethering limits localy but do when roaming overseas to stop big bills to them & they dont care how you use it in a mobile or modem!

    • $65 is too much, I already spend $60 for my home internet and the whole point of this is to slash the monthly internet cost.
I recently broke my phone screen and got a new phone, so I dedided to give it a go, use the broken phone as a router and ordered a felix SIM for $0 to test it out… Ill see how I go

    • @srhardy

Its not @unlmited speed anymore I think, from their website the $60(for vodafone postpaid users)/ $65 (for normal users) current plan is capped @ 100 Mbps.

Are you getting speeds of like 200 Mbps on that $65 plan (discounted from $70 a month?)
      or
are you still on their promo/grandfathered plan of $85 a month (which seems to be the case, may be same as me paying $42.5 a month due to black Friday sale 2021 ??)

    • I think you mean the $65 SIM-only unlimited plan: https://www.vodafone.com.au/plans/sim-only, not the ultimate plan (which is actually related to fixed wireless and NBN).

      CIS: https://www.vodafone.com.au/doc/cis/mobileplans/au12380/sept…

The $20 credit is available if you never miss a payment or cancel/change your plan. I think this is probably a plan to stick with long-term unless wholesale mobile data rates start to go down. This is a plan you want to be grandfathered into.

Keep in mind you can only roam overseas with this plan when you pay $5/day. Not suitable for long trips, may be better to get a temporary local or regional eSIM from an online provider like Airalo or Holafly.

  • So I have been testing it for the past few days and I can say there's a pretty great deal of throttling going on, especially at evening time

For example, download speed right now is around 5 Mbps (lows of 3 and peaks of 8-9) while upload speeds are steady at 18-20 Mbps, which means that the phone works well and signal is good, I guess. Also, with another phone on a Kogan SIM, which also uses Vodafone network, gives me 35-40 Mbps in download..

So for therefore, I cant say I am impressed with the service and defintiely can't say I am planning to turn off my NBN for this. I'll keep testing but so far it doesn't look good.

    • This was my experience with them too. I ended up moving to Vodafone.

    • Did the speeds get better?

      • I don't know, I stopped testing after a few days and never looked back

  • Used it for a year without any warnings, used about 500GB to 1TB per month. It seems they couldn't recognize my Tenda AC1200 4G+ LTE Router as unusual.

My father used an old Telstra modem and he got the email, I suggested he just signed up to a new 3 month 50% off and start fresh with a new sim. If you have two people in the household, you can just go back an forth every three months.

I've only just switched off them after moving because the Vodafone signal wasn't good enough, but it was fairly good cheap option for a year, however you can not get Tangerine NBN25 for $45, which is more stable.

    • Link? I have tangerine nbn 25 and pay 60, I'd be stoked to have it for 45

      • +1

Your plan is $45 for new customers, for 6 months.

Other NBN providers are offering $45-$50 deals atm as well, you should be porting as much as possible, port out to another deal and then you'll be able to port back within their time terms.

I finally started porting for deals after paying AussieBB $129 for 2 years, my current plan is twice as fast for cheaper.

Maybe go get a month for free from Dodo, then port to someone offering $45/$50 for NBN25. If the month is free you can get the fastest plan.

        NBN 25 deals

NBN 50 offers are cheaper than the normal 25 price.

  • Will the Felix Mobile SIM work with a Locked Vodafone WI-FI Hub?

Does Felix SIM work with locked Vodafone devices?

No risk of flagging for excessive data use. To be connected only to CCTV NVR for a property that will be closed for a while.

  • Merged from Anyone Using Felix Unlimited Data Mobile Plan as Home Internet?

Felix Mobile has a month to month mobile plan that has unlimited data but capped at 20mbps download speeds (no idea what upload speed).

Has anyone tried using it as home WiFi option and can anyone comment on it.

I recently got interested in it since my TPG FTTN 50 NBN home internet has been down now for a few days.. We have a nbn technician coming tomorrow (seems the phone cable is disconnected somehow).

But yeah for $35/month unlimited data plus unlimited calls might be worth looking into to maybe replace my current 365 days $300 500gb kogan plan which works out to $25/month.

Can possibly tether it to my desktop pc for some light online gaming maybe some updates.

So yeah my question is has anyone tried using it as a dedicated sole home internet solution and run into any hiccups or barriers such as fair use abuse etc.

    Thank you.

Edit: oh ok nice so they do ban but the actual number is trivial but definitely worth something maybe to look into as back up internet when the main home WiFi goes down like it is now for me.

    • I've been with Felix over 12 months now. I got rid of my internode NBN. Just make sure you get decent Vodafone coverage where you live. I never get full speed and some days I just run it on 3G and that's enough to steam. I use it to stream YouTube, and general internet browsing. My Roborock is also connected to it. I'm a low end user of under 200GB a month. On my birthday I got a $5 credit. I got a Huawei Wi-Fi Cube from eBay for about $50. That does the trick. I just moved and there is no way I'd waste my money putting NBN back on. the plans are too expensive.

Use the finder code for 3 months at half price:

      • Thanks for your feedback I was just going to hotspot it from my daily driver phone xiaomi black shark 4. Have done it before and removes the need for an extra router I suppose.

Have not tested it for pc gaming but what's the worst that could happen.

Problem is I do maybe need to find a solution for the house as we have 4 people in here right now I guess I could somehow add it to my existing nbn router somehow which connects into my bridged network that gives most of the house coverage but sometimes I feel selfish to just give it for myself since none of these mfers are even paying just free loading off of my generosity I mean stupidity. Ah well such is life.

        • Sorry I've no time for gaming to try it out. It's fast enough to stream YouTube. I get less drop outs than I did with NBN. You sound too nice. Disconnect the NBN and let them sort out how they access the internet themselves. Unless they are your kids who need it for school lol most mobile plans these days are loaded with data

  • there are hours that I cant make phone calls or get any data until i got to the main road in Ashfield
