So many options to play these games and still I am thinking…why not.

  • Is it possible to play these vertically?

    • +2

      Yes.

      • And controls work well in vertical mode?

        • The controls work the same as they do when playing with the default screen orientation.

          • @dano: Won't they then be the wrong way then?

            • @boxall: Nope, unless you want, for some reason, to play like this.

              • @dano: Yep vertical. So I assume best to remove the controllers.

@boxall: I'd suggest getting a Flip Grip if you want to play vertical mode in handheld mode.

              • @dano: So switch lite cant be used vertical as controls messed up. Bummer and stupid programing.

Thanks. Added to post and my collection too.

  • Is Carrier AirWing the same as U.N. Squadron? Or is it maybe a predecessor?

    • +1

”Carrier Air Wing, released in Japan as U.S. Navy is a 1990 side scrolling shooting game released for the CP System arcade hardware by Capcom. It is the spiritual sequel to U.N. Squadron, released during the previous year.”

Which one of the flying shooting (like 1944) is the best to get?

    • If you’re looking at getting only one, 19XX is usually rated higher in the gaming community unless you’re dedicated to the originals.

      • Thanks. I get two?
Which would be the next best?

        • 1941 Counter Attack is decent but if you want similar style but a different game Varth Operation Thunderstorm is a good alternative.

        • Progear is also an honourable mention but is side scrolling.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts is the Dark Souls of the '80s

Grabbed 4 shooters….Giga Wing, Progear, 1944 and 19xx. Not sure why as I can play them everywhere, but having them on a nice portable 7" screen made some sense.

    • +1

And being able to play them with my 8bitdo pro controller vertically.
