Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black $146.81 Delivered @ PB Tech

71

Was holding out for a cool deal on the legendary Noctua NH-D15 - and if it was the chromax black version even better! But after watching prices for all versions (classic and chromax) skyrocket overnight after July 1 I had little hope.

Then discovered PB Tech selling the single fan version for $141.31 plus $5.00 (approx) delivery nationwide. Obviosuly temps will be slightly above the 2 fan version, but still impressive and I can shop for another NF-A15 chromax fan to meet NH-D15 (two fan version) specs if required.

Current retail prices I've seen elsewhere for this model are near $170.00.

Luck!

I believe one fan runs just two degrees hotter. Given the price of an additional fan it may easily add up to more than the two fan version. The new Deepcool 620 for $85 seems like a promising alternative as a dual tower dual fan that outperforms the D15. Though it's not 100% black. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/710561

I picked up a dh14 so, so many years ago. Reused it on a new computer, and noctua just sent out a new socket 1700 bracket for a new computer I just bought.

They definitely don't get much value out of me, but I'd never buy anyone other than noctua.

      • how long did it take for the bracket to get to you? I was contemplating getting it but waiting for shipping would have probably killed me with all my ready to assemble parts looking at me.

I ended up just buying the bracket for 13 bucks at JW.

Haha in hindsight I'd have bought it too. It took 2 weeks to get into the country. And now it's somewhere in the country and has been another week lol. So I'm hoping it turns up soon =p

I just ran with the stock Intel cooler, as my 12400 is low power so really doesn't need the d14…bit why not!

    • Out performs a D15!? Holy moly! The D15 has been king for years and always the go to if using in a full atx case. That's very impressive!

      • +1

Not really 'outperforms', more like barely cooler, but that's still impressive. It's almost as quiet as the Noctua too, but by all accounts not as enjoyable to install the heatsink (although the fan installation is better than those weird Noctua clips). I'm not sure if you get all the tools, thermal paste, etc from Deepcool, but Noctua has a history of sending replacement parts for free if you need them for any reason.

    • The single fan version also has better ram clearance, so it depends on your application

  • Just noting this is the single fan version.

I would recommend this instead, 95% the performance for 50% the price.

    Thermalright PA120 for $67 2x 120mm fan, dual tower, 6 heatpipes.

or $50 from Ebay, select PA 120 SE

    • That's what I recently got. ($49 @ BPCtech.)

Hey, this'll go nicely on a budget build I'm doing for my brother. Covid has wrecked his business, so every dollar saved counts atm. Big thanks

    • Do you know how the noise compares?

I don't even need a cooler just very curious as it's basically a quarter of the price if you purchase through eBay.

Here are the fan specs that comes with the cooler.

        TL-C12C FAN Spec:
        Dimension:L120 mm x W120 mm x H25 mm
        Weight:120g
        Rated Speed:1550 RPM±10% (MAX)
        Noise Level:25.6 dBA
        Air Flow:66.17 CFM (MAX)
        Air Pressure:1.53mm H2O (MAX)
        Ampere:0.20 A
        Connector:4 Pin (PWM Fan connector)
        Bearing Type : S-FDB Bearing

Which is similar in performance to the Noctua NF-P12 redux fans. Though its the tonal noises of the fans that might make it more or less noticeable to some people.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEBkFSzjKcU Here a YT video showing the fan's noise,

D15 is about $110 on newegg and is aways that price and ive run it on my 5900x its runs incredibly good and barely audible. Not as quite as aio’s but its one of the best air coolers without a doubt. Only cons are the size imo and ugly look but if your talking performance everything else is crap. Beats even cheap aios.

    • The weight has always been a concern over long-term use imo. I recently built a full new rig but re-used my H100i v1 for that concern of the weight. Anyone have any exprience with the D15 long-term?
Even though the ugly beige colour is their original trademark, i wish they'd change the horrible bandaid look lol

      • I'm with you on the unsightly mish mash of bare metal, beige and brown of the classic - hence my preference for the chromax black version. Even more so as my build has a glass side and the classic D15 would jar with the overall black theme. The sleekness of the AOI CPU head is very attractive but the long term issues of permeation, risk of pump/hose failure, finite life etc have tied me to air coolers.

I've had the D15 since the first gen Ryzens came out (over 5 years now) and it's been moved 6 times since then, including an interstate trip on the back seat - I've had no problems at all (I used their backplate), but I'm sure there have been others who were less lucky. I'm still genuinely concerned about the weight, but if you're careful with it, it should be fine.

https://www.newegg.com/amp/noctua-nh-d15/p/N82E16835608045 i think i got mine cheaper tho around $98 with discount then another one for a friend 3 months ago for 115. Mine got shipped from taiwan not the US tho and arrived within 8 days.

Update** price did change just checked. But before then it was always below 119

        • +2

          That’s USD

It appears that noctua have stopped selling direct via newegg :( hopefully this is temporary

      • The classic D15 was $109 + $10 shipping coming out of Taiwan for more than 3 months before 1 July on Newegg; similarly the chromax D15 was sitting around $170 - $180 (from memory). After 1 July these prices jumped up significantly by 50% to crazy levels not including shipping. If you were sitting on the fence pre 1 July with Newegg you'd be off the fence now with local pricings and entirely outside of the garden with Newegg's.

    • As mentioned before, your 110 is usd.

My D14 kept my 3750k cool with no fans. Didn't realise the fans on it broke until I did my seasonal cleaning.

I'm sure 1 fan is enough on these

  • I have the non-black version of this, has no trouble keeping 5800X cool in a small case (standard clock speeds).
