[VIC] Can I Split Pay My Rego at Post Office?

I want to pay my rego with discounted $250 Coles Prepaid Mastercard.
Current rego is around $870 so I want to split it into 3x$250 and $120.

VIC Road Online payment doesn't allow split payment.
Aust Post App Bill Pay doesn't recognize the bar code on my bill.
Yes VIC Road centers allow split payment by only split into 3 max, i.e. $250, $250, $370, and it's 15 mins drive away. Fuel is expensive.
So I wonder if I can split the bill at Post office. Has anyone tried that?
From memory I couldn't split my AAMI car insurance and my family member's NSW Rego at post office…

Also is there any 0.54% credit card fee when pay over the counter?
Thanks in advance.

Update:
Just an update: they don't accept split payment at post office for VIC rego.

So I went to VIC Roads service centre.
Paid 3x$250 with Coles prepaid MasterCard and the balance in cash.

They only allow maximum 3 cards. So you have to paid the remaining balance in cash.
There is no credit card fees for using Coles cards, even after I pressed the credit button on their machine.

Damn, that’s quite a lot of effort

    • Well, if successful it's a 7.5% discount =$65.

Why don’t you just use it for something else and not make this forum post?

        • The struggle is real.

@Euphemistic: Why is it silly? Particularly when I am managing my budget well?
I just spent $1500 for a new mattress during EOFY sale.
              Council rates is around $2000
              Rego is $850
              Utilities is around $350/m
$10,000 is easily gone within 4-6 months.
The cash just sit in my bank account anyway.
              It's all about budgeting.

I am not struggling. I just want to save as much as I can.
Isn't that the true spirit of OZB? lol

      • But that discount can be applied to any purchase, most likely one requiring less hoops or hopes.

    Just pay quarterly

  • If the biller doesn't accept credit card payment at auspost you'll only be able to select savings or cheque, neither of which will work.

at an average suburban speed of 30kph a 15min trip is 8km away. My 4WD would get 12l/100km on that trip. About 1l of fuel @ $2.30. Are things really that tight that u can't afford $2.30 to do personal admin?

I think you missed the point.
They only allow splitting in to 3 payments in maximum.
That means I can only use 2x$250 card and save $37.5 if I make a trip to VIC Road.
Doesn't worth the fuel and time.

If I can find a way to pay my rego in full with discounted cards, the savings is around $65.

      • I had a query today about purchasing tyres of eBay and whether the price included fit/balance.

I could have asked at OzBargain but crazy guy that I am I rang the vendor. He gave me the answer straight away (yes, it includes F&B), The whole transaction took <5 minutes.

So you already knew the answer before posting?

    • Each state is different.
I am looking for answers for VIC rego.
On the other hand QLD rego does allow splitting.

Far too much like hard work… I just paid my rego today for my Patrol online, $810… Took a whole 4 minutes job done

to answer your question yes, I did that at Auspost probably 2 years ago on Coles prepaid card, but things might change by now. If vicroads want to limit 2 splits and you want to save more, you can go to Woolies and pay $7 extra on those $500 card, so it'll be $65 - $7 - $2.3 fuel.

I tried last week. The short answer is that you can't currently. When they scan your bar code at the desk, there is a message on the computer which specifically says no split payments.

    • It all may change soon since they are being sold to a private company and you can bet not for the better.

  • Anyone know if the post office takes cash?

  • Update Aug 2024: VIC Roads service centre no longer accept split payment by card.
So the best option is to pay for a 3 months rego online.
There is a $2.60x 4 fee, but you will still save $58 after the fee if you got 7.5% off Coles prepaid credit cards, which is the whole point of this post.

    • This is good - I'm curious if the PO takes cash - wonder if anyone knows - this is the first thread that comes up on google!
