Pay for Udemy Courses with a VPN (via India / Turkey) & Save 50% or More

720

So I was eyeing this course at $26.99 and was looking for discount /code, couldn't find any. Tried VPN on India location, and voila.. Price came to INR 455 roughly $8.49 ( plus conversion rate) .

Step 1. Use browser incognito mode (optional, but make sure you are not logged in)
Step 2. Connect to India VPN
Step 3. Copy paste the course url (or browse to the course)
Step 4. On load, you will see INR 455 (this price is probably for the courses priced at $26.99)
Step 5. Buy using the card (whichever works for you) and create a new account (dont use your existing account, it will detect its Australia based and displays AUD price again)

Once purchased, no need to use VPN to access the course.

  • Interesting, I went to check using nord vpn and India wasn't an option, which vpn do you use?

    • Surfshark mate

Thanks, as suggested below I tried Turkey, was 4.43 AUD altogether

Got an email from my VPN providers saying Indian Indian govt. has started asking them to store and provide the 5 years data, hence Most of the VPN companies are shutting down their servers in India.

      • Thats the good info. I did notice 'V' on India option in Surfshark. After little digging found it means Virtual Servers. They dont have physical servers in the countries marked with 'V'. May be its a workaround to get away from penalties /fines by governments? 🤷

      • My VPN (Ivacy) is now going through Singapore for a India VPN.

You might be able to click "Gift this course" to your original account

    • +1

Anyone tried this can confirm it works?

      • +1

yes it works, see my comment below, I used a dummy Turkish account to gift my main Australian account fine

        • Hey, Did you use a credit card or debit? My debit card didn't work on either of the cases(I tried to buy + gift).

  • Needing your recommendations. Where is better to learn programming like python? Udemy? or other websites that's specific to programming?

    • Whatever you'll stick to. I did a python course on udemy and found it really helpful.

      • You did python for job purpose or just for fun or what ? Why so many people are after this ? What am i missing ?

    • On youtube for free.

      • Udemy is more structured than Youtube for sure, you can place Notes at any timeline, Post questions to instructors, monitor your progress etc.

  • I think they check your billing address, which has to be in an Indian province.

    • +1

then google where Taj Mahal is?

      • I don’t really care cuz it’s just a dropdown. At least my wise card was declined when you choose India even with VPN connected.

But it works fine with other countries like Thailand.

    • +2

yeh my ING was also declined

  • +6

OK I THINK I FOUND A BIGGER HACK!! Dont VPN to India, VPN to TURKEY!
The same course which didnt work in India (455 indian = $8.50 aud) came down to 50 TRY, which is $4.5 aud.
No bank issues with my ING unlike India too.

    • Also, can confirm using a dummy Turkish account to gift your main Australian account works

      • i was able to do this previously but today after I ordered from a dummy account and gift it to my australian account when redeeming it was asking me to pay the full aud price of the course.. its checking out as free. any ideas if this is an isolated thing?

        • UPDATE:

I see now the issue is. They are auto-refunding after you purchase the course. i guess they caught on. funs over?

          • @changot: Didn't work for me on Turkey VPN, was "refunded" on Udemy without any error message or email. Haven't had the transaction reversed yet.

    • which VPN did you use for Turkey?

      • +1

        surfshark

    • I VPN'd to Turkey a few weeks ago in Windscribe. I was downloading dozens of files from the same few sites like Rapigator and Nitroflare, which only allow one download per hour/day on the same IP address. Then I selected Turkey and the page I wanted got redirected to a pron site, plus a bunch of pron pop ups, and my antivirus software warned it had just blocked one of the popups from installing a virus. A couple of weeks later same result. Never again.

    • Does not work for https://www.udemy.com/course/certified-kubernetes-security-s… - I tried different countries and incognito mode, but it is always a full price

      • yeh i think they caught onto the VPN thing as it stopped working for me soon after. And i also think the deal has expired, most things are back to full price for me

  • Nord VPN to Turkey, I opened incognito mode, created a fresh new account, and tried by either adding to the cart or gifting. I get the error We couldn't complete this purchase, Please try again on both of the methods. Am I missing anything? I am using CBA Debit Card

    • use ing get the same error

  • But aren't these courses that people have created with their time and resources and are selling on udemy? So by faking your location as turkey or India, to learn about a topic that you're interested in, aren't the creators losing out?

This isn't a victimless operation. If people making these courses get less money they will create less content for you to enjoy.

Many Udemy courses are garbage, often with better stuff available on youtube for free. That said, different pricing for different people or locations stinks. So them receiving something is better than receiving $0.

      • +3

I would think that people will probably try to buy known high-quality courses with this, and reduce the income of the udemy teacher. In the comment below, someone is getting a 30.5 hour course that four people created for $5. The course is known to be high quality and is 4.7 stars. The abundance of low quality udemy courses doesn't validate this course of action in my mind.

Udemy isn't making up the shortfall here - they're just paying those people less for a course that took an incredible amount of effort. And as someone who makes videos, I know how much effort it takes to make a half hour video, let alone a 30.5 hour one. These people do this for income, and the cost is calculated to be less in poorer countries to make it more accessible to low income countries, not so people who can afford it get it cheaper.

Would you be okay with receiving less money in your day job given the rationale that "some money is better than no money"? It's not Udemy that's being defrauded here, it's the people creating the course.

        • Well you never know if a course is high quality until after you've already paid for it.

Second, if I won't work for less someone else will.

There's a huge income gap in western nations too. But we don't see "poor discounts" for the single dad whose wife died of some undiagnosed condition meaning on one wage he lost their home, struggles to pay rent, and has to collect aluminium cans after the kids are in bed to afford 2-3 hours of childcare each day until he gets off work.

I read something a while ago about Udemy ripping off content creators too. So it's their choice whether they list their course there or not, knowing people have fee workarounds.

Someone could fly to India and pay the discounted price. So I don't see the difference, except it's better to sell 10x at a discount than selling 1 (or none) at full price. The content is still sitting there, the work already done. So there's no further expense only gain - and small gains are better than no gain.

Personally, and this depends what sort of course it is, but I largely see Udemy courses as a joke - where education goes to die. A lot of what I've seen is weak, a lot more is hot air (time filler), and youtube often has better content.

It's a pity Udemy doesn't discard the dross and waffle… e.g. Had a team of "experts" who view each course, toss out the rambling filler, leaving only quality courses - not dragging down the value of the good ones.

  • found this course https://www.udemy.com/course/unitycourse2/ $64.99 aud down to 54.99 Turkish lira or $4.81 aud

  • I've noticed many of the Udemy courses I'm interested in are also on Skillshare. And I believe I've seen people advertising their own referral link to get a Skillshare free trial. So make a list of the courses you're interested in, install some kind of screen/video grabbing software, then signup to a Skillshare trial using a referral link, and download them for free.

Just a tip, this is literally fraud. Obtaining a financial advantage by deception. Doing it via the internet and internationally elevates it to a federal offence.

Most of you won't care. Some of us will, and some of us have employers (like government) that absolutely will.

    • Yep there's a massive amount of fraud going on alright… No one should get a hefty discount just for living in a different country.

    • Close the door on your way out!

  • Thank you!
Just bought a Microsoft prep course which was listed as $64 for only ~$4.38 with Turkish VPN

  • I'm keep getting, We couldn't complete this purchase. Please try again.

  • Got "We couldn't complete this purchase. Please try again." when VPN to Turkey. Then I tried Poland, completed the purchases successfully but they refunded via paypal shortly and "temporarily suspended" my account. Just a heads up

  • When i try this now it just defaults back to my local currency.

  • Is this still working?
Worked twice. Now trying the third time and it said an error along the line of "We couldn't complete this purchase. Please try again"

    I am using windscribe vpn.

    • I just tried and got the same as you. Gifted it from a dummy account to my regular account, so far so good.

      • I still could not get it to work!

  • I think Udemy blocked Windscribe Turkey vpn? Keep on getting could not complete purchase.

    • Yep, not working woth Windscribe nor with Surfshark.
Will try with other VPN providers.. 🤞

    • +1

Try FlyVPN.. I just made a purchase. It didnt work for me straight away, what helped was the new account was created with VPN with Turkey location.

Then I disconnected the vpn and logged in again.
Since the new account is tagged to Turkey, it showed me the same price (in TRY currency).

Hit the purchase button, payment declined. Hit it again, it went through second time.

      ✌️

      • Thanks for the confirmation. Might need to try different vpn

      • Tried with Flyvpn free. Still does not work. Definitely harder now

    • Windscribe on Turkey did not work.
I then tried Express VPN and it still did not work.
However, when changed Visa card to Mastercard, it worked on Express VPN. Probably it was an issue with the card type!

  • Finally got it to work after trying with a new card. new account and new vpn provider.
No idea if it is just one new thing I tried or combination of all the above.

  • Okay so I used NordVPN to connect to korea vpn.

    Logged in incognito
    Created new email
Gift the course to your main account (making a new account with the email you just created)
    Pay with paypal
ended up costing about 16bux each for a course that was about $80 originally (but came down to about $45 after black friday)

Not as good as turkey/india VPN prices, but those weren't working for me.
I kept getting an error with 'could not complete purchase'

Let me know how you go!

    • brilliant, this worked for me. not as cheap as turkey/india but a good 50% off

  • Tried today and I couldnt pay with any of my cards (citi, bankwest, etc…)

  • Tried today with no luck won’t accept payment. They must be blocking ip addresses through all the usual vpn providers. Anyone still having success?

  • For security reasons, your payment couldn't be processed. How to solve it?

  • It seems we are paying the Aussie tax on Udemy as well (same league as vehicles, streaming services, food, electricity etc) :(

  • India the payment did not go through with either IngD or Coles CC. Turkey worked with Coles CC.
Courses would have been around $100AUD and paid around 25AUD with coupon code FEB_24_GET_STARTED

  • Payment made by a card will go through (Turkey VPN) but it will auto refund. Paypal worked fine.

  • +1

So, is it still working in 2024?

Should we try Credit Card or Paypal first?

Should be use a dummy account and gift it to the Australian account, or directly create a real account using India/Turkey VPN and pay with it, then use it without VPN?
