The missus and I went to one of these last year (the Jazz one, hosted at The Grounds in Alexandria).

"A very intimate atmosphere" is a gross exaggeration. Yes, the event was candlelit… but:

    • The chairs were hard and uncomfortable
    • The band was not good
    • The drink selection was limited and expensive

We thought we were going for a chill event where we could enjoy some drinks over some nice music. Instead it felt like a school assembly where we were forced to watch an uninteresting performance for 2 hours - a feeling that was reinforced when we tried to duck out early and staff literally blocked us from reaching the exit.

There were some wasted people that seemed to be enjoying it though. So maybe that's the key aye?

    • Staff blocking the exit? That's false imprisonment
