Virgin Australia Credit Card - Bonus Gold Membership

Apologies if this s the wrong place but wasn't sure where it fitted.

Long story short applied for Virgin credit card with 6 months gold bonus velocity membership. Got card in early May, spent enough ($1.5k) on it to get bonus 25k velocity points but still haven't got gold bonus membership.

Does anyone know how long this takes as about to travel quite abit and could do with the lounge access.

Spoke to velocity via contact page and Facebook support and answers are so complicated I just couldn't work out what they were saying despite asking several times to clarify.

    Assume you selected gold membership over the other two options when signing up.

    Have you logged into your velocity account to confirm your status? Is it red, silver or gold? The 6 month gold trial normally starts as soon as the card is assigned. You don't get to select WHEN it starts and these days they are not sending out any gold cards etc for the trial etc so you don't really know unless you check your status.

    Call up velocity and speak with a human to see what they say.

    • Thanks, I regularly get emails from velocity that confirms my status is still silver. I have tried to call and like everyone else they are "extremely busy at the moment" with suggestions to go to the website etc

      I will ring up when I get have some spare time to hang on the end of a phone waiting. Just wondered if other people had any experience of how long it takes.

        For us when we took a 'trial' for gold status many years back under a different offer, it was near instant.

          Can confirm when they had their 6 month offer it came through within an hour of applying/reaching the requirements.

  • Have you receive the minimum spend bonus? Of so, maybe check your velocity account. It appears that the gold membership trial is tied to the minimum spend requirement.

    • Yes got my first lot of 25k velocity points for spending $1.5k in first month so assumed the gold membership would follow quickly after this but a month later and still nothing.

  • I'm also interested to know when the gold status gets applied. I'm not travelling for a few months yet so no rush

    • Did you apply at the same time? reassuring if you did and haven't got it either that I haven't just been forgotten about. I will try and call tomorrow and will let you know what they say.

      • I applied on the 4th May so met my first month's spend. I hope they don't make us wait until after 4 months!

  • You're probably going to have to wait until you finish the full 4 months of minimum spend to get the 100k points

    • It's not 100k points it's 25k points a month for free months and bonus gold membership to velocity. It is the gold membership that I am asking about as already got first 2 months points.

  • These guys are cowboys. Got through to a supervisor, and he blatantly had no interest in honouring one of their promotions.
    I filed a report to AFCA and the all the points were in my account in 7 days, plus an apology email from someone from Virgin Money Australia HQ. That being said, HSBC did similar last month, CBA this month. Both of those complaints were successful as well. Will be reporting ANZ tomorrow…banking is a shambles.

  • As an update on this spent over an hour on the phone with them and get nowhere with a promised call back in 2-3 days (which never happened) and then out of the blue noticed yesterday my status had changed. No email, no call back nothing. Oh well at least I got it in time for my big trip to the UK.
