Samsung 14kg Top Load Washing Machine WA14A8377GV - $1068 Delivered @ Appliances Online

70

I have been needing to upgrade my washing machine due to a expanding family.

This 14kg capacity machine may not be the most water efficient, but it does do family size loads in one go.

There is a steam wash function which is supposed to be good for reducing allergens and bacteria. Don't use it on your bamboo garments!

It also has the Samsung "Magic Filter" which is supposed to dramatically decrease lint. Our current machine (LG) generates heaps of lint so I am hoping this magic filter works.

The black version is slightly more expensive than the cheaper white version - we prefer the black so are going for that.
White is $1036 - https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-14kg-top…
Other than the colour of the cabinet, the 2 machines are identical.

It's RRP is $1449 and the previous best price I have seen was around $1191.

It is ~$1230 delivered directly from Samsung using the Samsung educational store.

Black laundry appliances now? Another vulgar consequence of US home renovation shows no doubt.

I guess its another fashion idea that will come (and go soon enough)

You and Henry Ford would get along exceedingly well.

He preferred black, but sounds like you would like everybody to have any colour they like as long as it is white.

In our kitchen we prefer red appliances….

  • Be careful with the depth of the tub, I have a 10kg samsung and the tub is so deep , I'm 5'10 and it's a struggle , my wife is about 5'7 and she is on tippy toes to reach the bottom .

    • I don’t get why these top loader are still available in the market?
Worse soil removal, high water and energy consumption, high noise level, hard to reach, compared to front loader.
I’ve heard people buy top loader because they can add additional items anytime they want during the cycle lol!

      • +2

Well parents like them for kids clothes and nappies because they can soak with Napisan and keep adding more clothes while soaking duing the day, then power it up and wash. Its a lot less messy that way. Take your point about energy use though

        • +1

Yeah soaking is one thing, but many front loaders also have soaking function. It doesn’t use as much water and rotates ones every couple of minutes to ensure complete soak.

          • +3

@mrgeckoz: Never understood why people feel the need to buy an appliance just to soak things when they could buy a bucket / strucket instead.

      • +1

Yes they use more water and energy. But top loaders do a much faster wash which means you can do more loads in a day. That's the main reason people keep buying them. Front loaders are admittedly a lot better than they used to be, but bad experiences with old front loaders has put a lot of people off them

      • I accidentally bought a top loader from the recent Aldi sale, was intending on getting a front loader and didn't even realise both of them were available. Too much of a pain to return, so keeping it for now unfortunately.

      • +1

we're had a front loader for over 10 year and the thing which made us move to a top loader again.
        * mould build up in the rubber seals in the door
        * 2.5 hours for a single wash

        • +2

My front loader does 15 minutes.
I had top loaders initially when moved to Australia 7 years ago, but moved to front again 3 years ago and love it!
Clothes don’t get ruined, saved water, electricity and the environment.

      • +1

Perhaps there are well made front loaders, but the experiences I've had with them is that
        1. Front loaders agitate the clothes against each other too much, causing worse wear, pilling and in some cases, damage
        2. Front loaders do not use enough water, and see point one as a result.

I also like the luxury of being able to put stuff into a load at will or pull it out.

  • 'There is a steam wash function which is supposed to be good for reducing allergens and bacteria. Don't use it on your bamboo garments!'

Maybe don't read all the marketing mumbo jumob ;)

If the size and the price is what you need, nothing else really matters generally.

    • Steam Wash used to be available on some of their front loaders machine & I do miss this feature….

Terrible Samsung. My first Samsung front loader spider was damaged in 5 years. second Samsung front loader same issue in 4 years. Newer buy this brand again.

    • +1

What are you washing? Bricks mate? :D
7 years out of our first Samsung front loader and the spider was fine. Then 5.5 years out of our second front loader and the spider was fine again. I only upgraded recently as there was an amazing deal posted here for a 12kg front loader Sammy. I'll also add that I'm in Brisbane which has some of the hardest water in the country. Could you perhaps be over-using detergent as this is often a catalyst for corrosion.

You may be correct, However, one of my friends' dad had a similar experience with Samsung, he says max 4-5 years then spider broke. They replaced spider as it was an expensive model (can push more closes while in the wash). I think while designing Samsung should know that these machines use soap extensively.

Bought a Miele this time delivery this Thursday.

I had a basic Samsung front loader and the spider went after about 5 years of use (it was in storage for the first year). Not all Samsung's are created equal, mine had a completely inadequately specced spider. I tore it down and fixed it by watching YouTube and the spare part from ebay was easily double the heft of the original, it's like Samsung knows they are shipping rubbish parts with their low and medium range machines and don't care. I replaced the spider and bearing seal, and I didn't need to even replace the seal really as it was fine but at only a couple of bucks it's worth doing, and the machine is almost fine now. It does have a small tear ina hose but I can replace that with anything really.

Even Aldi Stirling machines that's cost hundreds less than the cheap Samsungs are better, so there's no excuse, can't recommend them at all. Not sure about the top loaders, but from what I have heard they aren't any better

mine was gone after 3 years+……replaced with other brands and still going strong after 5 years!

let's not forget Samsung top loaders(some) that causes fires & burned down some houses…LOL!
