OzBargain EoFY 2022 Treasure Hunt - Gift Cards and Graphics Cards! Starting 22 June at 12PM

Hi all! It's that time of the year where we invite all the OzBargain users to participate in some load testing OzBargain Bargain Hunt! It's starting tomorrow morning and we are giving away $11,000+ worth of gift cards and goodies. Here's the summary:

  • Starts at 12:00PM AEST on Wednesday 22 June 2022
  • Finishes at 11:59PM AEST on Friday 24 June 2022
  • Around $3,000 worth of gift cards (100x $20, 20x $50) and 50x OzBargain T-shirts will popup at random places.
  • 10x $100 gift cards, some electronics and some NVIDIA GeForce's & AMD Radeon's will popup on specific pages on OzBargain, and I will be posting hints in comments in this post.

What treasure hunt?!

OzBargain Treasure Hunt is a site-wide event that we've been running almost every year since 2015. Not much has changed since then, and this year's format would be very similar to last year's (hence I haven't even bothered to change the picture in the examples below). Basically various prizes will popup on the site throughout the day during the hunt. You'll need to do a bit of scrolling as they pops up in the middle of the page. Here's an example from last year:

Click to Reveal the Prize

When a prize pops up on a page, it won't stay there forever. The "Click to Reveal" banner will disappear after 20 seconds without interaction. However after you click on the prize, it will reveal what the prize is and allow you to claim it.

Click to Claim the Prize

After you have claimed the prize, it will be added to your inventory, which is available on the Marketplace page (that page will be enabled 2 hours before the hunt starts). Marketplace would be very important in the later part of the hunt. You can add at most 4 items to your inventory — prizes basically would stop popping up on OzBargain once your inventory is full.

Marketplace

On the Marketplace page, you can

  • See what prizes you have in your inventory.
  • Drop prizes to vacate your inventory. Dropped prize will be back to the wild, ready to be picked up by other OzBargainers.
  • Put your prizes on the marketplace for trading.
  • See what prizes other users have put on the marketplace.
  • Request / Accept / Reject trades.

Trading is important because many prizes come in multiple parts — and you can only claim the final prize when you have collected all the parts!

Multipart Prize

Feel free to use private messages or this forum to organise trades.

What prizes?

Here are the prizes for the OzBargain Treasure Hunt this year:

  • Gift Cards
    • 100x $20 Prezzee Gift Cards
    • 20x $50 Prezzee Gift Cards
    • 10x $100 Prezzee Gift Cards
  • T-shirts
    • 50x OzBargain T-shirt (same design as last year's, Gildan 5000)
  • Gadgets
    • 2x Apple AirPods Pro (2 parts)
    • 2x Nintendo Switch Neon (2 parts)
    • 2x LEGO Vespa 125
    • 2x Xbox Series S (2 parts)
    • 2x Samsung Galaxy Buds Live
    • 2x Ultimate Ears Wonderboom
  • GPUs
    • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 (2 parts)
    • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (2 parts)
    • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 (2 parts)
    • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (2 parts)
    • AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (2 parts)
    • AMD Radeon RX 6600 (2 parts)

The list of gadgets were from GoNuts deals at Click Frenzy Mayhem this year, except we removed all the more expensive phones, TV, laptop and PS5, double all the other gadgets that are giving away.

As of graphics cards — these are by far the most popular products posted on OzBargain recently — almost 700 video card related deals so far this financial year. For the winners — I'll just order whatever is on sale / reasonably priced product that contains the chip, so might not be the brand that you are thinking of.

Note the prizes with "(2 parts)" — you'll need to collect both part 1 (floating around during the hourly drop) and part 2 in order to win the prize.

Where to look?

$20 & $50 gift cards, T-shirt and most of the "part 1" prizes will be gradually released on OzBargain. They may be found on OzBargain front page, new deals page, or any deals/competition/forum page from this financial year (July 2021 to June 2022). However the chance that they appear is governed by probability, of around 1-2% per page view.

All the other prizes are released at specific time and location. A hint will be posted as comment in this thread about the location of that prize. Here's the schedule:

Location hint for Prezzee eGift Card $100

What was the most voted deal in last year's Black Friday / Cyber Monday event?

The answer is this Mastercard / Amazon AU deal, which you'll be able to find the $100 Prezzee gift card. You'll have to be quick though, as other OzBargainers are also fighting for those prizes.

The last prize will drop at 3PM on Friday, but the event will officially conclude at 11:59PM on Friday, giving traders in Marketplace plenty of time to finalise their transactions.

Participation Eligibility

OzBargain Treasure Hunt is open to OzBargain members, and

  • You are not currently in penalty box
  • Your account was created before this post. I am blocking new accounts from accessing the treasure hunt to stop people creating multiple accounts to game the system.

Also any attempt of scripting / gaming the system would result your account(s) banned.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is adblocker okay?

Yes, prizes will still show up when you use adblocker on OzBargain.

Q: Is mobile okay?

Yes, mobile browsers should not have any issue.

Q: Is dark mode okay?

Yes.

Q: Where do the prizes pop up?

It will always be below the fold, i.e. requiring you to scroll down at least one full page. It pops up when the page is loaded, but will disappear after 20 seconds.

Q: I am getting error "This item has already been claimed" when I try to click on Claim This button! What's going on?

A prize can simultaneously pop up on many ozbargainers' browsers, but only the first person clicking on "Claim This" will actually add the prize to his/her inventory. Others will get the error message after clicking on "Claim This" button. It's like multiple people can simultaneous spot a $50 notes on the floor, but only the first person who takes the action to pick it up can claim it.

Q: How do I get the prize after claiming?

After the competition has ended, a form will appear on your Treasure Hunt marketplace page for you to fill in your postal details, and I'll try to order in the prizes and send them out a week after the comp has finished.

If you've only won the egift card prizes, we only need your email address to send the card to you.

      • Currently 2667 online. Is that a lot? Or does it spike just after the hour?

Need to preload a few gaming deals to get it, scotty gave almost 2 hours for researching.

      • Yeah, I had no games preloaded. I had the search bar ready for gaming and deals. Found the post within 2 clicks and approx 30-60 seconds.

  • +1

I found a $20 prize and it made my night :')
    Thanks Scotty

  • I found a $20 prize too :) Thanks Scotty!

  • How do the 2 parts prizes work? Will they be on 2 random pages that you need to come across? Sounds too hard, haven't seen a single treasure hunt button everywhere :D

    • Part 1 might appear randomly on any page, based on probability.

Part 2's location would be provided by the hints here.

      • So if someone finds part 2 based on the hint and claims it, but doesn't find part 1, what happens then? or can multiple people claim one of them and then when the first person gets the 2nd they win?

        • +1

Pretty sure you need both parts to win. If you only have one part without the other you don't win anything.

          • @I like deals: Yeah I got that part, but what happens if they fail finding part 2 but have already claimed part 1? No one wins? Or can multiple people find/claim one of the parts but it stops when the first person claims part 2?

            • @cycleri3: there are multiple copies of part 1, and unique part 2. Generally the people with part 1s will be willing to trade otherwise they end up with a useless part, as the part 2 person has multiple people to try to trade with.

        • If you do get part 2 without getting part 1 and if do not have another item to trade then it means no one gets the prize and Scotty gets away with not having to buy the prize.

If this happens just trade your part 2 to someone who can complete the set for either one of items that you only need 1 part to get a prize because last year someone got the winning prize piece of the Xbox series x and refused to trade this part of item to another person when he could not complete the set as he only had 1 item.

      • Is it always on the first page?

        • Scotty said it's always first page of comments

        • Same didn't load for me. Got the same question, can it be another page other than the first

      • same :(

      • it's gone

        • either people are really fast or they be doing some tricky stuff

    • Claimed at 61 seconds pass 9PM. There's really no need to post a link here asking whether this is the right place. Someone might have gotten to it already.

      • +1

Do the ones claiming are the same every year like monthly stats ?

      • Gone in 61s.
        Any more prizes tonight?

      • +8

I won't reveal who got it, but there are some skilled OzBargainers out there. For the one who just claimed $100 Prezzee gift card: After the hint comment was posted at 9PM sharp,

        • load this page to read the comment right away
        • searched "first class type:forum"
        • got to the page at 53 seconds pass 9PM.
        • claimed the prize at 61 seconds pass 9PM.

There are some treasure hunt regulars, but the winners are very diversified. On the treasure hunt page you can see that there are currently 60 unique winners who claimed 96 pieces.

        • Not this one but the previous question I swear I got to the page within 15s of you posting the hint! To me 53s sounds quite a long time!

          • @oscinator1988: I wish thr was an option to post Gifs here, feels like I got F5 and TombStone at the same time.

          • @oscinator1988: I was the one who got 44 seconds on the previous $100 Prezzee gift card for KFC chicken post and when you are rushing you can lose track of your sense of time where it felt I like was very slow because most of my time was waiting for the page to load. It also definitely did not feel like it took 12 seconds to get the hint at the start and slow amount of time took me to get onto the page.

  • +1

I won a HSBC add ..yay.

Brilliant idea for add clicks… Hats off!

    • Bank isn't included ?

      • +1

I think s/he is saying s/he clicked on an ad instead of treasure. You do not need ads on to see the treasure I am running ublock and do not have ads showing on my account and still get treasure.

        • +1

Correct, and didn't know that. Cheers.

  • Would this work on mobile app too? It was mentioned it would work on mobile browser but idk if it works on app

    • There shouldn't be an issue with mobile app. However app doesn't have the full menu so it's hard to access this page & the treasure hunt marketplace page from within the app.

  • +1

    any 10pm deal?

    • +2

didn't show for me, others say 3mins past, so guessing not

      • It's already 4minutes past…

    • Currently all prizes have been claimed. New prizes: 10 hours 57 min to go

      • where do you get that info from?

Edit: wait, I see the list at the top. Was confused why some weren't crossed out for today but the times align

        • +1

See this link under statistics at the top there is how many Treasures are claimed and if any are active and there is also a timer which tells you when the next treasure drop is available.

        • +1

Look at the marketplace page linked in the OP for actual numbers

  • I want a nice deal but there are none?

  • Only for desktop version… Or mobile can claim gifts too

    • Is this a question or statement

      • +1

        Wooopppsss question;)

      • It is for mobile browsers too… I found under faqs

  • I can't see the marketplace link. It says "403 Access Denied". Is that normal?

    • No, it is not normal. Your account was flagged by system as a suspicious ghost account last year, which prevents you from accessing the treasure hunt.

I am unflagging it now, since your first account(s) have been banned.

Again, creating multiple accounts on OzBargain is against our terms of use.

      • Also getting the same 403 access denied trying to access the marketplace link.

  • How does this work for you? sending heaps of people to one page and hope the server load can hold without crashing?

    • It works by you either trying to get major prizes by getting to specific page in the hint first and/or spamming F5 or opening pages with 10+ comments and getting lucky to get a random treasure (note need to get at least 1 random or another major prize part to actually win).

Where I was lucky today and got a T-shirt on mobile phone by refreshing my web page which is harder to win on.

Edit just realised you we asking how it works for Scotty keeping this for others.

    • Sending heaps of people to one page? That would be ideal as the cache hit rate would be high and easy to optimise.

The issue here is that people are going all over the places hunting treasures, using lots of search and custom queries to find that specific page.

Second day of treasure hunt starts at 10AM AEST this morning. There will be some changes — mainly debuff on those who have already scored some prizes.

You'll get reduced probability on the same type of items that you already have in your inventory. For example if you already have $50 Prezzee gift card, the chance that you'll score another $50 gift card would be vastly reduced. However, that does not not apply to $20 or $100 gift cards or other prizes — they stay on the same probability. All the part 2s of NVIDIA GeForce cards are grouped as the same type, and all the part 2s of AMD Radeon cards are grouped as the same type.

Removing the item from your inventory (by dropping or trading) would remove that penalty.

    • +2

      Good idea!

    • +1

I love that you've called this change a debuff.

    • Just want to confirm - by having a $20 Prezzee GC trading on marketplace, chances aren't impacted?

Absolutely no idea, looked up translink and I got nothing :/

      • +1

    • +3

I need a hint for this hint

      • Still showing 1 available, but I can't find anything!

    • +1

11 minutes in and still on offer. This one is well hidden.

    • +11

Got it. That was a hard one!

      • It wasn't even a poll?

      • +2

        How'd you get it?

        • +2

Searching translink, then bus, then what car should I buy (was actually thinking of the Simpsons and someone making a Bus/Train joke!).

I clicked on about 20 or so (likely more) pages prior to finding it though.

      • +1

Well done! The hint was based on the most voted comment.

      • Nice, how did you find it?

    • Has it been claimed? My Guess is the answer was "Should Another Customer Touch My Groceries" but nothing there.

      • It has now…..

        • +1

Yep i saw that. I was looking for most voted poll answer, not comments. Oh well. well done RompaStompa

  • Good Job!

  • The hourly drop is not a good idea. OZB freezes around the hour. Just say the drops are random throughout the day, even if they are hourly drops.

    • Unfortunately that would lead to people hammering the site all day just in case there's a new drop. I think the only good solution might be for people to find the answer and get a lucky prize draw from it or something, with the earlier you find it the more entries that you get (maybe capping out at a certain number of entrances before the prize is drawn).

1st person might always get a prize from the other pool.

      • Hammering the site all day might be a better way to run the stress test

        • but then we couldn't use it for Ozbargain daily to day business purposes

Which month in this financial year had the most video card deals? What was the most voted video card deal in that month?

    Hint: PNY

This one got claimed pretty much straight away. March has the most video card deals, and this is the most voted — GeForce RTX 3080 for $1479. How price has dropped.

Someone have just accepted a trade with me.
With my bad memory, I'm guessing that was you.

If so, thank you so much!

search narrows down the results really well, but I was still too slow.
        e.g. PNY type:ozbdeal option:titleonly tag:video-card created:20210701-20220630

        • i'm a search n00b.

started search using simple "video card", then realised it searched for forum posts by default somehow, typed "video card type:deals" which returned nothing, and only used the UI to search … too late by then lol

  • Damn, spent ages scrolling and refreshing that deal page, guess I was too late

    • Same, I was there within 3mins but no luck.

  • +5

this competition is far too difficult

  • Location hint for Nintendo Switch Neon (2/2)

What was the most voted competition post in this financial year to win a Nintendo Switch console?

    Hint: It's an OLED model

    • Darn. Found it but it was already claimed :(

      • Me too, too slow :(

    • Was waiting for page load for 3-4 mins and then its gone :(

      • +2

Same, @scotty I don't know if it's possible but you need to increase the sites speed!

        • I believe that is the point - they are load testing what the site can handle by running this comp.
We are being used… but in a good way - they are paying us with prizes to help load test with real world demand all to one page at once!
