  • Seems cheap. Any good?

    • +5

Yes, it's good. If all you need is a simple automatic coffee maker, I recommend it. It'll make you an espresso, a cappuccino or a regular coffee. Some of the more expensive models have more options for customisation but if you're happy with those options, this is good. I think I paid closer to $600 a few months ago so price has gone down too.

    • +2

I have the 4300 with few more beverage options.
I think this is great value. At this price point you could only buy an espresso machine without the milk system.
The brew unit however seems to be a little bit shabby, compared to Delonghi which feels more solid and better built. But have been working well with over 100+ cups made so far.
The design of the milk carafe is smart, easily cleaned rinsed and dishwasher safe. There are a couple of negative reviews due to leaking caused by cracks. Mine also has cracks but no leak so far.

      • Where are your cracks? Just curious for me to know where to look out for it.

        • +1

Mine is located at the circle on the transparent part of the carafe, where steam and milk mixes.

      • is the latte macchiato much different to a latte

        • No not for me, YMMV.
Cafe au lait is very different though.

  • +4

Nice deal. People were happy to pay $300 more just 8 months ago- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/656208

Although it was only $575 6 months ago- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664945

    • +3

How about 4 and 2 months ago?

  • Has auto milk frother so fully automatic. I want to get one just to compare to my delonghi magnifica

    • +13

      that seems wasteful

      • Not really I would keep the one I preferred, and sell the other.

    • +1

Delonghi would do better. Their milk frother is much further ahead

  • -6

looks small and ugly. Wouldn't you rather pay $100 more to get the Breville barista?

    • +9

This is a fully automatic, the barista express is a manual coffee machine. Not a valid comparison I'm afraid.

      • if all you want is a stock standard no frills FW/cap and is time pressured during the week would the automatic give on par coffee to the barista express? have a BE and have no complaints but it's hard to find the time during the working week

        • What do you think of something like 7/11 coffee?

          • @ATangk: i'd rather drink tea..not sure whether it's the beans that contributes to the bland taste? we have an automatic at work and it spits out passable cap/lattes but you can definitely taste the difference between that and barista express

        • +1

Barista express is better, you can get pretty decent coffees out of it, while the delonghi auto is good but has its limitations (pressurized basket, doesn't grind very fine, works best with medium Dark to dark beans, milk frother is underpowered, etc).

That said, if I had the time and money, I'd get a dual boiler and a very good grinder. If I just had the money, maybe an oracle touch.

    • +3

Wouldn't you rather pay $100 more

      No

    • This is truely fully automatic. But yeah the Breville Barista may get you more precise coffee taste to your liking I believe.

  • I'm so torn between this and the Delonghi Magnifica Evo (290.62.B) on sale at Costco for $800.

Anyone have any experience with either? Is the Delonghi worth $250 more?

    • +1

      Delonghis are good
      Can recommend

    • Evo is apparently the same as the S, but with digital/fancier controls.

I'd get the Philips since it has auto milk frothing

      • +1

The one at Costco also has the auto milk frothing. Apparently there are different versions of the Evo, which is extremely confusing!

        • Magnifica S at Costco also on sale for $649, until July I think. Although it's actually cheaper on eBay.

          • @TEER3X: 599 at bing Lee and David jones for the magnifica S. Not sure whether to get the Phillips or delonghi

  • +1

Bought this for my parents so when I go there I don't need to drink shitty nespresso pods. They didn't want a manual machine. Hopefully it's ok.

    • +2

You’re not an ozbargainer, who buys a $530 coffee machine because he can’t tolerate a pod every once in a while

    • Espresso shots that come out of this machine is beautiful (for me)

    • +1

Refill a couple of Nespresso pods with Freshground coffee before you go. Top with alfoil. Can actually make a decent cup with the right stuff inside. But they are like 6 grams…so take 2. Easy as.

  • If no specific need for auto milk frothing… This or magnifica s?

    • I can't compare, but I own a Magnifica S and I've got no complaints so far at all. I am tempted to buy this though, because of the auto milk frothing… Seems to be a function to make my morning easier 😂

      • We use the magnifica at work and they are pretty bulletproof… Wondering about reliability of this one…

        • +1

The Magnifica S at my work has been pumping 20 coffees a day for 6 years and it's still going. Wild thing.

      • Which beans and what settings are you using?

I've found mine pretty picky when it comes to settings (with the beans I have), and any deviation, coffee comes out less than ideal

        • I’m currently on grind level 2-3, tried level 1 and pump is struggling to push the water out, drips very slow, so I turned it back to 2-3 and works perfect.
Many baristas also suggest to use fine grinds for automatics to extract the most out of the beans.

  • Purchased, great price, thanks OP.

    • How long did it take you to get it delivered?

      • Only a couple of days.

        • Did you buy from the shop called Bufan Shop or Amazon AU?

          • @Saladman: I bought one from Amazon, then a couple of nights ago on last day of Prime Day, I bought a mate one from Bufan Shop because the price is similar. As it happens they sent me a DHL tracking number for a delivery in Vic today (I’m in Tas) so I asked what was going on, and they got in touch to tell me it was their mixup of course, and would issue a new shipment and tracking number.. they have no feedback/sales, so not sure whether it will show up. To be fair, delivery from these guys did say a month.

            • @handles1: Did you get the same message this is what he messaged me:

“ Dear customer, we take your question very seriously. I just consulted the warehouse and the warehouse replied with the wrong tracking number.
I will arrange for a reshipment and provide a new tracking number. I will notify you when the goods are shipped.

If you don't receive it within 15 days, don't worry, I'll give you a full refund.
              please wait patiently
              thank you very much ”

              • @Saladman: Exactly what I got. I said no, saw they had done it to other people, requested an immediate refund. I then chatted to Amazon Customer Service who requested the refund from the third party, who have processed the refund in full about half an hour ago. I’ve now REordered it for my mate directly from Amazon for the extra $90 or so, cos the machine is worth it 👍 Good luck!

                • @handles1: Thanks I replied to the guy asking for a refund then told Amazon straight away hopefully he issues the refund asap

  • +1

This or the Breville Bambino Plus? Have been watching the Bambino Plus to come down on price and it's still around $500+ in most places.

    • +1

I have the Bambino plus and was thinking the same. I'm gonna guess its a question simply of manual or automatic… and maybe bench space, although with the Bambino you still need a grinder.

    • +2

The bambino plus is $499 on Amazon. The sea salt color.

    • +1

If you don't desperately want a fully automatic I'd really recommend the Bambino Plus. I bought one at the start of COVID and it has served me really well. Definitely beats the coffees I've had from similar fully automatic machines I've had.

      • Cheers. Yeah, since I have a dedicated grinder I will wait for a deal on the Bambino Plus.

    • +1

Bambino plus if you have the time and patience for it. The auto milk frothing is very good and you can start that while you get your shot together. Only thing I hated was the lack of temperature control.

  • +1

thank you, finally pulled the trigger for fully automatic machine. Bought gift cards from ShopBack, and let's see if the Cashback is tracked later on. Yay!

    • What price do you think it will work out to after all that?

  • +1

we got this machine last year and so far its good. making coffee is a lot easier since then 😆

  • Bought

  • Novice question, but do you have to flush the milk lines etc after each use? And, assuming so, is it a pain? I like the idea of fully auto except the cleaning part!

    • I chose this over Delonghi was just because of the easy rinse and dishwasher safe milk carafe. No tubes or small parts at all!!!

  • Waiting for the PHILIPS Series 4300 on sale -41% or more.

    • What is the difference, they look both the same to me?

      • More beverage choices

    • +1

I purchased the 4300 model as we liked the automatic milk frothing. Its terrible too much froth with full cream milk and cannot adjust the levels. I sending it back to Phillips for a full refund

      • Oh, that's bad. Will find something better?

        • Delonghi has one with adjustable milk froth thickness and is $1.5k+

      • Try different brands of milk, they will all froth different.

  • +1

I would get this but apparently it can’t make babycinos and honestly that’s where all my money goes.

    • Is there a way around this? Like no coffee beans so it only dispense milk.

      • Apparently you choose the Cappuccino option and then just stop it before it does the coffee (milk goes first). That’s what one of the reviews said anyway.

        • Or you can choose the ground coffee cappuccino option and just don't put any ground coffee. You get frothed milk.

      • $2 milk whisk/frother from IKEA and hot milk from microwave

Or $30 milk frother from aldi

    • There is a milk froth option and you can add chocolate to that to become babycino;)

  • +3

Tempting when RRP is $899. But the Aquafilters cost about $30 each, and according to the manual only do ~95 litres through them and it suggest to replace every 3 months. But you can just stop using and revert to descaler like a true ozbarginers. Also need to 'Consult the lubrication table and lubricate the brew group with the Philips grease' every 2 months, so there is a bit of overhead with this machine. Looks like you can't store the milk frother in the fridge either, manual suggests you need to clean it after every use which is a bit of a pain.

Replacing the AquaClean water filter (5 min.)
After 95 liters of water have flowed through the filter, the filter will cease to work. The AquaClean light turns orange and starts to flash to remind you to replace the filter. As long as it flashes, you can replace the filter without having to descale the machine first. If you do not replace the AquaClean water filter, the orange light will go out eventually. In that case you can still replace the filter but you first need to descale the machine. When the orange AquaClean light flashes:
1 Take out the old AquaClean water filter.
2 Install a new filter and activate it as described in chapter 'Activating the AquaClean water filter (5 min.)'.

Replace the AquaClean water filter at least every 3 months, even if the machine does not yet indicate that replacement is required.

    Deactivating the AquaClean reminder
If you do not want to use Philips AquaClean water filters anymore, you can always deactivate theAquaClean reminders (AquaClean light flashing orange):
1 Press the on/off button to switch off the machine.
2 When the machine is switched off, press and hold the AquaClean icon until the light in this icon goes on. The start light starts flashing.
3 Tap the AquaClean icon again to deactivate the reminders. The light in the AquaClean icon goes off.
4 Press the start/stop button to confirm your choice.
5 Press the on/off button to switch on the machine again. The AquaClean reminders are now deactivated

    • Watched the video on the amazon page and it says every 5000 cups? * shrug *

    • Looks like the filter is not needed. Water in Sydney is very soft anyway so descaling isn't needed often if you are in this city. My Delonghi requests that every ~300 cups of milk based coffee.
Regarding the brew group lubrication, it is required for every coffee machine, even for those that don't state this in the user manual (e.g. Delonghi; I lubricate it once a year).

      • Never heard of this, might have to do some research, thanks

      • What lube are you using to last a year? I do mine monthly. Makes a big difference when you have it set to a fine grind.

    • +3

      AquaClean is optional.
I always fill with Brita filtered water anyway.

  • The beko fully automatic machine is also a good thing for similar dollars, 2 year replacement warranty, very simple to use , the brew group is not over complicated, and it makes a great coffee. Worth a look , in saying that , this deal is really good.

  • I purchased the 4300 model as we liked the automatic milk frothing. Its terrible too much froth with full cream milk and cannot adjust the levels. I sending it back to Phillips for a full refund. Make a great espresso.

  • Great price and very tempting but just bought a Nespresso Creatista a month ago.
So far loving it - obviously a pod machine so say what you will, but I like how it froths the milk automatically in the jug and you can pretend to be a barista. :P

    • +1

You can better pretend to be a barista with a manual frother, and after lots of pretending, you'll actually get really good at it.

  • Does anyone know how hot the milk based coffees come out from this machine? I had a delonghi dinamica plus, but returned it as all milk base coffees were lukewarm as best.

    • It’s somewhere between lukewarm and hot.
There is a temperature setting but I’m not sure if it only applies to coffee.

  • +1

Bought this and returned a few days after. Didn't like the coffee it made and the milk frother was too weak. Ordered a Sunbeam Barista Max for $499 or less. Amazing coffeeshop quality coffee once you've got used to it.

    • Yeah sunbeams don't get enough love on ozbargain unfortunately

      • Mine got broken soon, but Amazon quickly sent a replacement so no worries while warranty lasts.

    • Mine didn’t make proper coffee after 15 shots, all automatics take some cups to run-in.

  • What's cleaning like on these full automatic machines? The financial controller doesn't trust me cleaning the aftermath of the coffee making and "pods are so easy, even you can do it" apparently

  • I’m torn between this and the 4300.
I like the idea of more coffee options but for $600 more not sure.

  • This or the Latissma Touch? I’ve always been a Pods drinker.

    • Ironically I have a touch and love it and this/4300 are the only machines I’m tempted to upgrade to

  • Thanks. Got the second last one. (1 left now)
Currently have Barista Express but will see how it comes. (Either return this one or sell Barista Express)

  • Can be had for $483.00 from the Amazon Warehouse.

    • It says that "Small cosmetic imperfection on top, front or sides of the item. Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged"
I think extra 40 bucks is worth it rather than getting a returned one

      • Considering the price has gone up again, thats the only option now.
