Google Chromecast with Google TV $79 Delivered (Was $99) @ Google Store

210

Equal to or less than the other current Chromecast deals (1,2), however worth sharing again due to the availability of the different colours at the sale price: pink (Sunrise) and blue (Sky), as well as the regular white (Snow).

Google One members get a whopping 3% ($2.37) Google Store store credit, awarded in 15 days (after the returns period has ended).

Expiry date listed in the email I received as June 30, 11:59pm AEST.

I do wonder if they’re going on sale because a new one is coming out but at the same time I haven’t noticed any slowdown whatsoever so not sure what ‘improvements’ they could make. It’s the UI that lets this device down, have to use app only mode or experiment with a different launcher.

      Maybe bigger storage

      • Definitely. Or sdcard slot.

        • +7

I'll bet you a million dollars Google never puts an sd card slot on a Chromecast.

          • @Jimmye: I don't disagree, but it would be nice!

The UI is hands down better than any TV OS out there. Not sure how it could be letting you down…

      • +1

The intrusive recommendations etc. I just want a barebones UI, which this kind of has but not as customisable as I would like. But yes, as far as similar things go, it’s quite good.

Then pay the extra for a Shield.

          • @antman: Or Apple TV. I got both. I prefer Apple TV for slicker and simple interface.

          • @antman: I don’t need the power of a shield…

I looked into this, supposedly it's a lower end 1080p model.

      • Do you know what they are replacing it with, and when?

        • +1

From what I found online it will be slower/cheaper and slot below the current model (think competition with the Fire Stick Lite), releasing some time this year.

@Frunk "Do you know what they are replacing it with, and when?"

just speculative rumour… google is more likely capitalising on AU end-of-financial-year sales…. this 'sale' item is ensure that they are still in the (retail) game… Helps also that they can move units before next months Amazon "Prime Day" sale which is unannounced but speculated to be occurring on either the 12th or 19th of July (insert your rumoured date here).

If your want it, get it. I have yet to see the price drop below $75 anyway (raw price without pay later coupons, CashRewards or bundled price incentives etc.)

      • Specs say it is 4K capable (assuming you are referring to the deal and not something else).

        • +1

I'm referring to the rumoured new model.

    Thanks

  • Are Google the only ones who sell the different colours? I need a second but don't want another white one.

    • +2

      Yes. At least new.

Had two of these now, and man the remotes suck balls, they lose pairing (one even would just constantly consume batteries and kill them in days)

    • +3

Wow, I have literally not changed the batteries that were included with it from 2020, not a joke. And don’t have any pairing issues. Any outside factors that could be causing a problem?

    • +2

I would return it if you can, mine has not disconnected once nor have I changed the battery. Had it for atleast a year.

    • +1

Sounds like a faulty one, I've had mine for 7 months and it's not disconnected and I haven't changed the batteries either

  • Should have been this price from the start. These are $49 in the US so we getting screwed, even when you account for currency conversion.

    • +2

$49USD + tax. You need to understand US don't add tax to their prices until checkout.

      • Well it's actually dropped to $40 in the US (Walmart and BestBuy) so even with tax it would be well under $50, which would convert to about $70 AUD.

        • Economy of scale. Australia is one of the worst countries in the world for it due to isolation. Corps also know we are realtively rich and will afford it.

  • I get 10% back as Google credit, not 3.

It seems the Netflix credit deal has ended?

N.B. I have one of these and looking at buying one for someone else. I think it is a good little device.

It is wifi only and has no SD card capability but you can add a hub to get those features (see Whirlpool), which I haven't felt the need to do.

Remote is slippery so I bought a silicone cover on Amazon.
