    • And $20 options are limited at HN due to Jack.

        Jack? Thought it was Gerry.

        • +4

Gerry likes to do Jack. It's his favourite thing to do - inflate prices wherever he can.

        • Gerry doesn't allow change of mind returns.

        • +1

In the case of a refund of the purchased item and the gift card is unable to be returned, the value of gift card must be deducted from the refunded amount. Terms and conditions apply. See in store for details.

          • @mar1in: you’ll also have 1 unused gift card to return

Give it to a homeless person, Gerry hates homeless people.

      • This is a great article

  • Get in there Uncle Gerry

  • If you had to pick, this or the Amazon Fire Stick Max?

    • +4

I think this is better, especially with this price.

    • +4

If you intend on casting to your TV, this is the one to get.

      • +3

I just found that I can cast with Firestick Max with Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video

        • Ahhh good to know!

    • +4

I have both, I definitely prefer Google TV's interface and ease of use. Remote is a little slippery because its all rounded but I just bought an aliexpress cover, but most of the time I just use the phone's Google TV app remote anyway.

But they are both great for what they are. Probably better to stick with whichever you have a hub for because I can just tell my Google assistant to turn on and off the tv, but I have to use the remote for the firestick because I dont have an Echo

    • kayo app works on this. For firestick, the app doesn't work but there is a workaround by using the firestick browser.

      • Kayo works fine for me. Took a bit to get it working though.

See wp for more info on the below.

I had to load a specific version of the apk

It will also work on Kodi using the add-ons.

The only downside to installing non amazon apps is blank icons for non amazon store apps.

You can either install the icon file fix (but you'll have a blank icon and a non blank one) or install wolf launcher + perform the workaround to force it to use that instead of amazons launcher at start.

    • Android tv makes this gold. You can sideload apps like adfree YouTube etc. Well worth it.

Good deal but please don't get suckered into spending more than $20 at HN with your voucher for the health and safety of all of us.

    • A true OzBargainer doesn't care who the seller is. A deal is a deal

      • Then that makes me a non true ozbarbainer. Notzbargainer.

  • Good deal, purchased, thanks OP

  • I have always wanted to buy one, but ended up with the Xiaomi Mi because if the USB drive.

So, would you be able to side load apps on this Google Chromecast with Google TV device? If so, how if there is no USB.

  • Waiting for 20 dollar HN item ideas before I buy this

  • A deal for 'professionals'

I've heard most streamers struggle with photos and videos. Has anyone used Google Photos via the current Google TV on a 4K TV. Does it work well? It hasn't on some older Chromecast devices/ Android TV's

    • +1

I don't have any experience with Google Photos but I stream using this device every day and never have any device related problems. I've gone from using a rPi, MiBox and now I have used this since it first came out and can say it's one of the best devices of its kind around. I turned the constant ads and stuff off, I think they call it app-only mode. As always, your milage may vary.

    • I think main issue is 4gb Max on fat32

  • If I have a Chromecast already, as well as PS4 so I can browse around media apps with the controller, is there any reason to upgrade my Chromecast? Is this better at navigating the apps/content then a gaming console?

    • A PS4 is pretty limited in the apps you can put on it.

I can see the benefit in the Google TV above a regular chromecast if you want to avoid getting your phone out every time you want to use it

      • Does it have a Fite.TV or NJPW app, do you know? All the other apps I use (Plex, Binge, Netflix etc) are on the PS4.

        • Yep, it runs Android tv, so any android app can be sideloaded, even steamlink.

    • It is better yes, the range of apps for most users wouldn't be any better. You lose privacy for sure but the algorithm and home page is better for reccs than any of the apps individually or the PS4 video app. I'll get a second for an old tv in the home gym to allow streaming music/video while working out. Depending on how old the TV is remote may not work perfectly either.

Oh how I absolutely despise HN but unfortunately someone gifted me a $100 gift card a year ago so I bought a kettle for $39 and just used the rest on another one of these costing me $17 but now I have another $20 gift card to use. It's a shitty cycle to be in. They might get another $5 out of me for a canvas print if they're still on sale but that is it. NO MORE JERRY.

    • +4

You be back on Gerry's "nuts" when the next bargain comes along.

      • Oh please no.

  • How to watch free air tv channels from this device?

      • +1

        Thanks.
Too complicated. Will give it a pass and stick with my Vodafone TV box.

        • Too complicated.

Not really. Kodi is available on the Play Store. You just enable IPTV and add channel URLs from the guide.

    Thanks Op got one.

Used the last $20 voucher from switch sports deal.

Had to take another shower after leaving the shop though… Felt dirty 🤣

    • You and me both.. felt good that I finally used the gift card in my wallet, only to be replaced by another :/

      • Yeah. It's a vicious cycle and another extra shower down the road.

Any recommendations on alternative to CCWGT?
Have a dumb TV but only use YouTube premium but would like to watch the FTV apps.

Don't really want to use a HMDI cable.

    • what do you mean by not wanting to use HDMI cable?
I use vodafone tv, but seems no longer on sale
an alternative is fetch tv I heard

    • No HDMI cable needed apart from the 4 inch one connected to the device. You will require a spare HDMI port on the TV.

    • HDMI cable from my phone to the TV…..

      • Any recommendations on alternative to CCWGT?

You make us think you have it but want alternative, this is alternative don't need this anymore your phone -> HDMI -> to TV.

    • Why are you looking for an alternative? What do you think is wrong with this?

  • +1

Why people are against HN ?

    • -1

People want to hurt Harvey Norman because the Executive Chairman (Gerry Harvey) of Harvey Norman is your typical selfish old billionaire. Thing is, the businesses aren't owned directly by Gerry Harvey so if you boycott or refuse to purchase products because of him, you are just hurting the owner of the franchise and staff of that particular store, you aren't hurting the 82 year old billionaire. He'll be dead soon, they should just shop there, pull a party popper when he dies, and move on.

      • -1

What selfishness he has shown ? A billionaire is trying to send people to Mars for his ambitions and everyone appreciates it.

        • +6

Harvey Norman took $16 million from JobKeeper despite earning significant more profit than they did the year before, people also hate that he strongly campaigned for the 10% income tax on overseas (online) purchases. Hey just so you know, not everyone appreciates trying to send people to Mars.

          • +2

@FabMan: I believe ppl hate Hardly Norman well before jobkeeper?

            • +2

@sfac: Hes pretty much why there's import tax on all international orders. I miss the good old Gearbest and Banggood deals

      • +1

Not fair to imply it’s all Gerry and the franchisees are innocent: Harvey Norman head office paid most of their portion of JobKeeper back whilst franchisees all decided to keep their (unfair) share. They have all ripped off the Australian taxpayer.

    • Eat the rich

  • Does anyone know if you can install the Flash news application on this? I'm sure you can cast but is there an application that can be used independently of my phone?

I got a free subscription through The Australian deal that got posted on here a few weeks ago

    • It seems to support Android TV.
There are reviews saying it doesn't work but many say that on non-TV as well - only has 2 star rating.

  • Does anyone know if you can turn the Chromecast on and off using the remote? Or sleep mode if it has one? Reason is I want to use it with a monitor so the monitor can go to sleep when Chromecast is not being used.

  • I have telstra tv box thingy. Is this any better.

    • +3

      100 times better

      • Are there any limitations compared to the telstra tv other than free to air TV?

  • Is this 1 GC per customer or will you get multiple GC if you purchase more than 1?

Is the GC issued at order pick up or received digitally upon online purchase?

I'm interested in grabbing multiple cc google tv's.

  • +2

1 gift card per device, Given upon pickup of item as a physical gift card.

  • Can you add Britbox streaming?

    • Britbox streaming?

I think they have app, search it from appstore if not just sideload.
