  • Spewing I missed out on the last one and this one! I take the last event was a hit?

The last event was great! Our sponsors have yet again increased the prize offering so it's looking to be great.

  • Is this only for contestants or can spectators go and watch as well?

    • +3

Spectators are more than welcome. And there's heaps of side stuff to try (VR, Consoles, Racing Sims, board games, food)

      • I suppose then the question is, does spectators need a ticket for entry as well?

        • +4

Yeah, sorry should have said. Because we provide meals and also the side event stuff at extra cost, we do ask that people buy a Console/AFK ticket. But we hope that there is still plenty of value to make it worth it!

I went last LAN and it was a lot of fun. Great prizes organised by the team. Highly recommend checking it out if you are interested

Haven't been to a BYO PC LAN in 10 years so could be a kick. What are they like these days? Do people still swap Linux isos, game patches and driver updates over DC++ or has faster internet changed all that? Still the random huddling around someone's dead PC with spare parts to help them test BSODs and faulty RAM? Good times.

It's a bit of a mix. There's a bunch of old-school LAN-players that come, playing Red Alert 2 or Flatout. But there's also people that rock up, connect in, and then play Overwatch for ten hours and only take a break to join in the Pass the Parcel.

    • Hey, I do most of the Tech Support for the event. Happy to say we haven't seen someone do that level of hardware rebuild on the day yet, but it's bound to happen and will be fun.

Fast internet has changed the scene a bit and we cache all the updates we can too, but it's normally a friendly crowd happy to share

    • I was at the last LAN, looking to go to the next one, and I would gladly help out with any pc building space!

"Linux isos, game patches and driver updates" lmao, those were the days.

      • +4

I went to heaps of LANs back in the 00's. Every single one always had at least 1 person doing a Format and reinstall of Windows, and someone for whatever reason just could not get onto the network lol

    • +2

suuure… "linux isos", ….. game "patches" and "driver updates"…. Those are definitely what I remember people swapping at lan parties….

      • +2

Woah, people wouldn't just illegally download a twenty-year-old game with no legal avenues to acquire it…would they?

    I'm concerned about the $1 potato cakes or $5 for 4 deal…

    • If you were a fan of the potato cakes last time, just wait till you see what we've added to the hot-food menu this time!

      • Hey Jabob, Any vegan options provided for lunch, dinner, etc?

        • Also would like to know :)

          • @patchyz: Yep, we can work with any dietary requirement. Just reach out just you've bought a ticket and we'll sort something out.

        • +1

          Potato cakes

        • Hey, we always have a vegan option available at lunch and dinner, but it's best if you reach out prior if you have any specific requirements. Messaging us via the Facebook page or the discord is you best bet (links on the website)

The food isn't too healthy :-)
      Lots of energy drinks!

    • +4

So they get more expensive the more you buy?

      • From memory they were $1.50 each or 4 for $5.

        • +2

From your website. It's $1 each or 4 for $5….

          • +1

@Tony-Abbott: Thanks for catching that, should be fixed now. End of the last event sale prices still in effect there

Good on you for organising these sort of event - very cool. How many people did you get last time/anticipate to attend this event?

    • +2

Last event was just over a hundred. Expecting ~120ish this time, but we can handle up to 200.

  • +1

    No cod?

    • +1

Haven't had a lot of demand for COD. But we have some extra prizes so if people there are keen we can run an impromptu tournament.

    • No PUBG?!

  • +2

    No doto

    • Why no doto?

  • Well done to the organizers, if i can make it i may pop by.
it feels like stepping back into the year 2000

  • How many people usually turn out for this?

    • Our last 3 events have all had 100-125 attendees.

  • Any free pizzas for this event?

    • +1

Yes, pizza dinner is included with each ticket at no extra charge.
