So I was at a Korean restaurant today that I regularly dine at and was about to order when I noticed that they hiked up the dine-in menu prices, upping the price of my favourite dish from $18 to $22 (almost 25% increase).
On a normal day I would've paid no mind to the price hike and ordered anyway, but I remembered ordering delivery from them not too long ago on Ubereats and that it was cheaper on the app. I checked and to my surprise they hadn't hiked up the price for that dish or any others, which gave me the idea to order pick-up on the app and request to the staff to dine-in.
As I was already seated I thought it wouldn't be too much hassle for them to accommodate my request, and asked within a minute of placing the order on the app. However the staff flatly refused and said that pickup orders were for takeaway only, and they wouldn't allow dine-in because I used Ubereats pick-up.
Do you think I have any right to request dine-in if I have already chosen to pick-up on a delivery platform? I've done this at other restaurants when Ubereats had vouchers for choosing pick-up, and restaurant staff were usually more than happy to allow me to dine in instead. Saving dollars in proper OzBargain spirit after all!
Thanks guys!
No, you don't have any "right"… you chose pick-up and they accounted for you picking up.
They may be fine with you choosing to dine in afterwards, or they may not be for any number of reasons (restaurant is full/tables booked/just no). It's their restaurant after all.
