    • Has that text in bold always been there on other upgrade offers?

  • How easy is it to downgrade back to say discovery in a years time?

  • Which card were you originally on?

    • Essential

      • Damn, I only have an essential but didn’t get any email to upgrade. I need to top up some Qantas points as well.

Nah. Just get the one on Amex with 120 k points with 3k spend and $450 joining fee but reimbursed for travel.

I think that is better as i could get about$300 - 350 gc with the extra 60k points during the current promo period.

          • @shegeloaf: Is that this one with 100k points or is there another bonus somewhere? The $450 credit is only valid for Qantas flights and nothing else is that right?

  • Have you consider the annual FEE ? While the other Amex are free

    • 450 but you get 450 travel voucher back.

But there's a bunch of limitations on the 450 spend - you must go through AmEx travel, so you won't be able to find the best deals, and you'll have to pay more than other carriers because the flights are Qantas.

In practice the 450 isn't really worth 450…

  • how was this offer sent to you? email? or on their website when you login?

trying to upgrade from my 10 year old plat edge amex.

  • Does anyone know if you can you buy international flights with the credit? I contacted Amex and they told me only applies for local fligths.

    • +1

It can be used for international but only Qantas

    • International included. But you must purchase the flight from Amex travel sight.

At times their prices can be about $100 more dear.

  • Anyone know if you get a credit check if you apply for the upgrade?

    • No you don’t

  • How many qantas points can be earned per month?

    • Uncapped

  • :( im not targeted, did you receive via email?
I'll try to contact amex tomorrow

    • Did you speak with Amex? I'm guessing they'll say it's targeted. But YMMV

  • What is the cheapest way to get the 2 x Qantas lounge passes?

    • Also wondering this.
I think the last time I had this card I got lounge passes after paying taxes/fees on a QF flight reward booking. But not sure if my memory is correct or if that still works…

      • +1

In the end I upgraded a seat on an upcoming domestic flight for $10. 1 week later i received the lounge passes.

        • +1

My passes just landed, paid fees only on rewards seats.

  • I registered for an upgrade via the link on this post and only realised I wasn't asked which card I wanted to upgrade and the thought didn't cross my mind either. It ended up just upgrading/replacing my CPA Amex gold card which was a free card on the ascent rewards program. It must be amexs prerogative to just default to the 'cheaper' product to upgrade, or did I just miss the bit where I get to select which card to upgrade?

Worse part is that they've grandfathered the CPA gold credit card, so I can't even go back to it after. Urgh.

Just a heads up, and maybe this is obvious to the card churning veterans, but if you upgrade from an Amex card that rewards in amex membership points (Eg Essentials, Explorer, Platinum, …) to this Amex Qantas Ultimate card, that's a different reward scheme and any points you had on the card will disappear in the upgrade! LUCKILY if you call up Amex within 30 days of upgrading, you can ask really nicely and they'll let you redeem them for gift cards or transfer into a partner airline at the usual rate (but not into Qantas pts).

I didn't see any kind of warning about that when upgrading, hoping to save someone else their points if they also forgot about the existing points they had.

  • Did anyone still get the bonus even though they weren't targeted for the offer?
