The deal never left. The iPhone 8 has been $279 at Coles since it was last posted - the iPhone Xr is $439.

There’s no iPhone 8’s in black available in any of the southern/western Brisbane suburbs (I know, I checked).

Ended up getting the Xr (it wasn’t for me) - device itself was immaculate, battery health was 83%, on the lower side of acceptable but fine for it’s intended recipient.

This can be combined with the ½ price Dr. Oetker Ristorante Pizza deal though…

    • I bought an XR secondhand last year for $400. Battery health was 92%. After I had used my wireless charger for 2 months, the battery health went down to 83% lol. Big mistake. I went back to cable and it's stayed at the same % since

  • That’s a better deal on the XR that you got
I can only see a $599 version for the XR

    • Sorry mate you’re right, the price must have gone back up during the last week! Saw it there then at that price at my local

    It’s actually word number six.

    • He he

Boost got 300 for "as new" and 280 for "excellent" what are these Coles ones?

    • Can vouch for the condition. The phone I got from Coles was nearly spotless. Absolutely no scratches whatsoever. Battery health was 81%. I'm assuming this equates to an "Excellent" condition?

      • +1

Battery health at that level means it’s due to be replaced. I would be very annoyed if I’d ever buy a refurb with a battery in that state.

  • +1

    People still buy these!?
Surely you'd get the 2020 Iphone SE for the money

Not that i would, work gave me one and the display is tiny.

    • +2

I've bought a few from Coles for the kids. Each one has had a new battery, screen is undamaged and looks new.

With Reebolo, you don't know what you're getting but if you were getting the same quality grade (Excellent), you're looking at $359. Some people would rather go the 8 given they are so similar in spec and $80 less. Especialy if it's for the kids. Support will still have a few years to go.

Screenwise I agree, but it's actually the most popular size of iPhone which is why the SE was so popular.

but it's actually the most popular size of iPhone which is why the SE was so popular.

*Was the most popular, you'd have a tough time finding someone still rocking a screen size like this these days.

I'd debate that, the Bionic A13 chip is far superior to the Iphone 8's, plus the camera is a big step up, for what is $60 for an additional 3 years of security updates and support i feel the SE would win hands down.

      • How do you tell it has a new battery?

        • Checked the battery health. Listed at 100% for all 3

          • @Cyphar: I googled but all I could find were surface level guides on looking at the iPhone's self reporting.

Is there any information on how it's calculated? Independent testing?

            • @DonWilson: It's not going to read 100% unless it is new.

              • @Cyphar: How do you know that?

                • @DonWilson: Why would it?

                  • @Cyphar: It doesn't really matter why and I'm not going to make up a reason. But if only new batteries show 100% presumably after a single recharge it'd go down. Certainly after a month of recharges. Has yours? There's got to be some calculation based on some kind of readings. All I'm asking is: what are they?

With Apple dropping support for iPhone 7 in iOS 16 this year, I’d personally be hesitant to get an 8 at this point unless you’re happy to risk that you won’t get any updates next year.

    • -4

iPhone 8 support has a long way to go given it's closer to specs to the SE 2020

      • +6

Apple doesn't go by specs, they just go by release year.

        • +2

No idea why someone downvoted you. It's not sourced but this article says the 8 is out of support in 2023 while the SE(2020) is out of support in 2027.

      • +8

It’s an A11 vs A13 chip inside the device, so while the outward appearance is similar there’s a few years worth of chip updates separating the two. The SE in terms of CPU shares its chip with the iPhone 11 so I don’t expect the 8 and SE are on the same support cycle necessarily.

Refurbished by Alegre. If you go to GreenGadgetsAustralia (Owned by Alegre) on Ebay right now they have 20 to 22% off with code PLUSFY22 and may find a better deal. It also comes with 12 months warranty and they have iphone 8’s in different storage capacities and conditions.

Cleaned, reset and tested. There is absolutely zero refurbishment work done on these.

    • +2

For many they don’t need to do anything but they do put new batteries in some of them.

      • I just don’t understand the point in lying. Why not say “end of lease units like new” or whatever is the truth?

        • They source from different places eg ex lease stock and trade-ins from customers back to big phone providers like Optus and Telstra. I think they use Refurbished as an umbrella term because they check everything and clean them and in some cases replace the batteries.

  • +3

You can get a 128gb one in As New condition for $264.42 after PLUSFY22 code in silver or gold. I purchased one last year but in very good condition and it had no faults and looked like new but with 94% battery health.

i would by a cheap chinese phone, because it's much better speced, than these overpriced iphones which are already outdated.

    • +2

Agreed. You could get the excellent Poco M4 Pro for the same price.
