Travel Credit Card - Prepping for 2023 International Travel

Hi there - after some Travel Credit Card advice.

I'll be travelling from April - November in 2023. Starting USA for a few months, short stint in South America then mostly UK/Europe. I've never used a travel credit card before and wondering what would be best option given the following:
- Most of time will be US, UK & Europe
- May involve multiple flights within these areas
- Not setting off till April 2022, so wonder if delaying new card till November 2022 so only need to pay Annual fees once…

Appreciate any insight and advice! I'm pretty new to this world, so simple is helpful.

    What are you looking for?
If it is card acceptance, just go with Visa or Mastercard.
If it is fee-free, you should be able to get a basic CC from you current banker.

Are you looking for points, for good exchange rates / low FX fees, for multi-currency, etc?

I use Revolut for travel. Easy to use, you can load multiple currencies if you want to lock in best exchange rate.

Exchange rates with your regular banks will cost you a fortune.

This! Some of the credit cards are no annual fees so no need to delay if getting those.

I would also get a debit card too like citibank plus for free ATM transactions because sometimes you need cash. Other options in link above.

  • No frills card would be 28 degrees. No annual fees. My only complaint is that the online portal is not the greatest, but it's not too much of an issue since you really only need to access it once a month to pay your bill.

ANZ travel Adventures, unfortunately haven't had a decent offer on it for a while now.

  • Wise, but for South America it depends on the country?
Sometimes it’s much better to take all the money you need in USD

  • Bankwest Platinum Zero works for me.

No annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, complementary travel insurance, good app.

    • ∆ This, used one for over a decade, all the benefits above, over thousands of txns. Once got skimmed, Bankwest cancelled card, reversed txn, issued replacement and texted me even before I know it had happened.
