Seems like a new low for this well reputed knife.
This was the first Japanese Knife I bought way in 2015. I use it a lot less now, but it still feels good every time I pick it up. Brings back memories of where it all began.

Made in Japan.
Triple layered blade is crafted from two layers of stainless steel, with a pure, high-carbon and molybdenum core.
Handles are crafted from recycled wood – great news for the environment.
Triple riveted handles.
Hand wash recommended.

Steel: VG10 Core, stainless clad
Hardness: 60 HRC
Tang: Full tang
Handle: Pakkawood

Other knives: - OOS 23/6/22
Global G2 - $77.22
Kasumi 21cm - $131.82

Oh blimey great choice this. Why can't any of them do a Japanese handle with the centre of gravity in front of the shoulder!?

That global for $77 is just incredible value.

  • Which is the best?

    • +2

Not the Global - the steel cannot match a proper Japanese knife. Of these 3 I like the look of the Kasumi the best. But it depends what knives you have already. I prefer high carbon steel knives with traditional Japanese handles but if I am giving a knife as a present I usually give a stainless knife and appearance is important for a present and to my eye the kasumi looks pretty good. A good knife will last decades - of all the junk I have accumulated - when they are sending most of it to the tip - I suspect my knives will go on for the next generation to enjoy. Don't be too fussed about price. You only need a few good knives and some method of sharpening them.

    • Buy all and try.
I just bought a German-made one, wanna give it a try with the SHUNs we have.

      • Love my Shuns. Which german one?

        • Gude Alpha Olive Chef's Knife 16cm. It's definitely thicker, heavier and stronger than Shun, but not as sharp (it is very sharp). Just like most of German knives.

I have all 3, I personally like the profile of the kasumi the best if the 3, but you'd be happy with the tojiro too

  • Available again. Thx op.
