This previously popular monitor light bar from BlitzWolf is back on sale and as mentioned in the previous deal it's a good cheap alternative to the Yeelight version. This is suitable for providing a comfortable light on the front of your screen and some atmospheric colourful backlighting on the rear.

Featuring a front light bar with 2700-6500k colour temperature (cool light/mixed light/warm light) and 300-1000lux adjustable brightnes. On the rear is an RGB light bar with 7 different flowing effects, 7 different individual colours and an auto gradient light. There is a touch control on the side of the light bar and it's USB powered.

Can get it down to $31.19 if you can get your hands on the $6 USD off shipping voucher.

Can get it by going to My Messages > Promotional > Click Monthly Fans Day banner > Should be after the $0.99 snap up.

    • Free shipping if you're getting two as well.

"(CN)Free shipping for orders over AU$56.65”

  • Could you recommend a less fancy but cheaper version? I only need a basic, warm light for reading/writing
    Thanks

Thanks!!! Paid USD $22.43 / AUD $31.26 using Ricko98's info on $6 shipping voucher.

  • How does this compare to the SLT2 that I never got from the previous deal cos they refunded me for no stock ffs?

    • Quick glance you don't get the front light and the rear RGB lights seem to have only 2 modes.

      • What do you mean you don't get the front light?

        • I swear I was looking at a different product. Nevermind.

          • @Clear: lol, doesn't matter. This is expired now anyway cos OP link is "discontinued" and the coupon doesn't work on the other listing that's from the HK warehouse :/

  • Hi,
One more question - how much is 1000 lux. If I put it on top of a 32" monitor (16:9), does it give enought brightness for reading a book on the desk.
    Thanks

  • Thanks for this, I just broke my Xiaomi one because I dropped it when I was moving my monitor 😅. Paid $21.34 USD as a new app user.

  • You guys using e-ink monitors or what?

    • It's for reducing the glare to help with eye strain and can be used as a desk light.

    • You have to try before you can understand the difference.

I have been using this exact product (BW-CML2) for over 18 months now so I can share my feedback on it. Back then I paid around $26 with shipping included on AliExpress before GST tax at checkout. I do remember I did apply a coupon.

This light magnetically attaches to a metal plate which you stick on top of your monitor, so your monitor must have a flat top area and be over >1cm thick.

I chose this model because the bar itself has infinite adjustment, the round shaped light bar snaps into the mount so you can change the angle of the light as much as you want. You can even flip it upside down and use just the RGB side facing down which is what I ended up doing since the single brightness of the RGB was just right for a dark room and I switch it between Red and Light purple light.

Some other cheap screen bar's I noticed do not have this infinite level of adjustment, with some you can't move the bar's angle itself at all and some others only adjust a few degrees.

Positives: + Has been very reliable after 18 months of steady use. + Infinite adjustment of light bar angle. + You can use it with the bar upside down if you want. + The warm/cool white light side gets very very bright which was way too bright for my needs in a dark room, you can turn it down to be dark as well. + Very smooth change in brightness on the White side feels high quality. + Touch controls are really easy to use. + RGB and White light touch controls are separated on opposite ends, touch commands are slightly different though.

Negatives: - The magnet strength is OK but could be a little stronger since every few months I notice it has moved over on the metal plate 3-4 millimeters just by using the touch controls on one side. Also I stupidly tried to move the monitor once with it still on top and it fell off so just be careful +1 for durability here it fell on the desk and did not affect it at all. - I have it angled so you can barely see directly into the light source and some of the light does make it's way onto the monitor, you can see this on the top bezel and with the monitor off but when the monitor is on you can't see any light reflect off the screen so it is not an issue. - You cannot adjust brightness on the RGB side the one fixed brightness level is just right for me with the RGB facing down on the desk, it might be a bit weak if it's facing up though?

Some more information. At 5V/2A max power consumption you will want to plug it into a USB charger.
I think none of these "budget" light bar's actually have controlled light spread like the BenQ Screenbar's. I read somewhere BenQ has a patent for what they use and so whatever else is out there is an imitation and does not do a proper job.
The light's coverage on the desk is pretty good at 46cm wide the light covers the entire area in front of a 32 inch monitor and extends even slightly more.

Hopefully this answers any questions anyone has.

    • Will it still work of I plug it to my monitor's USB?

If you set the light to be bright you risk the chance of overloading the monitor's USB port.

I already wrote above, this Blitzwolf BW-CML2 consumes 5V/2A (all USB is 5V, and 2A is the amount of current). Normal USB ports (on computers/monitors etc) output a maximum of either 500mA (0.5A) for USB 2.0, and 900mA (0.9A) for USB 3.0.
In other words best case scenario your monitor USB port will output 0.9A maximum, which is less than half what the light will consume at max brightness.

You can argue that you will use the light at "under half brightness" all the time, but there will always be the risk either you set it too bright. And even at half brightness it might still consume more than 0.9A overloading the port.

What will happen if you overload the USB port? Well the light will shut off because the USB port shut off. You might think this is fine, but I have heard a few people who repeatedly overloaded their TV's USB port with LED lights and eventually the USB port stopped working.

A USB charger should be easy to find. These days 5V/2.1A or 5V/2.4A USB chargers are quite common and if you don't have one you can ask someone else if they have one spare.
