Or is it against the religion of OzBargain? This considering the average mid-AAA game in the $40+ category.

On sale or second hand, even new ones I wait a week for people to get bored and buy them a little bit cheaper.. I'm the main reason console manufacturers want customers to move to digital gaming.
Which, even though that would affect me greatly. I think they will eventually need to do, considering how much money is needed to make games of decent quality these days and making one sale which could go to 5+ people is a big loss for them.
Depends on the calibre of the game, for Elden Ring there was no hesitation at full price on release, for battlefield 2042 i bought it for 9 on amazon only recently, always check for reviews just prior to release
I gave both of those away for free after a few weeks. Terrible games from 2 of my favourite developers ever. Such a let down.
Don't know how you could say Elden Ring is terrible, easy goty imo
Only if it is something I really look forward to. And have researched.
Horizon Forbidden West was my most recent purchase for PS5 at $110. So far spent 100 hours on it, so closing in a $1/ hour is not a bad return.
While I tend to wait for a sale, or for something to go on GamePass, if the game is good enough I am happy to spend the money and support the developers.Only for games I'm very excited for, so maybe once every few years
I don't play most of the games I buy, so I'm hardly going to pay full price. I can wait until they come down in price or are on sale.
Largely, no.
Sometimes it’s unavoidable it only a small discount (Mario, Zelda) someone I will wait for secondhand.
There is probably only one game in the last 5 years that I would have gladly given the full amount too.
Age of Empires 4.
Very rarely, however might purchase hogwarts legacy a few days after release NOT a preorder. Although Amazons 30 day money back policy is very good.
During the golden years of PS3 mod chips I paid full price for new release games at EB all the time.
I just returned them for a full refund the next day.
The EB staff must have hated you! lol
Only games I'll pay full price on release are Rockstar (GTA/RDR).
Everything else I'm happy to wait.
Waiting 10 years between such games indeed
Between the games on offer with XBOX Game Pass and the free Epic Games, I've not bought a game for quite some time.
I am tight a f with respect to buying games. I've only ever played a few games, and counter-strike (condition zero and source) was one of them. This was about 15 years ago and this was when I was a broke college student so was using an eye patch version. I purchased this less than a year ago on some sort of mega sale where it was $15 or such and I thought it was a bit expensive as I don't play it like at all now, but figured I'd have a license for if/when I find the time to play it as I do love the game.
One other game that I used to play is various versions of need for speed, but it was too much during the sale ($16?) and so it wasn't purchased. I consider buy it if it's $10 or less at some point in the future.
I buy nice clothes, cars and everything else but I suppose I'm a tight one by nature when it comes to things I don't care much about.
Everything goes on my wishlist and then an email alert is set for when that game is 75% discount, happy to wait years but I only play SP games these days and that works out. Can't really do it for latest and greatest MP games.
Elden Ring.
I do for something I'm really keen for. Street Fighter 6 for example? I'll probably get at launch. I've loved that series since I was 12 years old.
COD however? I wait for sales. I won't even buy it if it's not a deal. That's true for almost everything. But if I'm really keen? I'm an adult, I can afford it. And if it sucks, I can ebay it cos it's on physical.
Very rarely these days. Last game I bought on release was RDR2. I used to buy a lot of games on release once I started working part time in school and had a combination of almost entirely disposable income and plenty of free time. Then as I transitioned into uni and eventually full time work, I kept buying games but couldn’t keep up with actually playing them. Eventually I started realising I was seeing deals on here for dirt cheap games that I had bought on release which were still sealed in plastic. Became a ‘patient gamer’ from that point onwards.
User name checks out. Welcome to the world of adulting - having a reasonable disposable income but being time poor. I just take my time and slowly acquire games when they are cheap. Sometimes it takes me a decade to finally get around to playing it.
No, but if I did it would have to be a AAA Nintendo Title such as anything "Mario" related. Those games hold there value for ever because casual gamers and mums buy it for their kids.
I buy at launch but never the full $100+ price. Buy from EB, pricematch other stores for $70-80, trade games, rinse and repeat.
Isn't price match a scam? They keep making stupid rules to weasel out of it, I still don't know why the ACCC hasn't come down on them for advertising it.
The "inside the same shopping centre" stipulation was silly enough, I once asked EB to price match a second hand pawn shop that was in the same complex not inside the same building tenancy as the EB store. They refused it 🤣.
And how do they get out of price matching JB and Big W who always have it significantly cheaper? They set their prices 30% higher and say that the other stores must have it in stock…which they obviously won't because everyone is going to buy there first.
Akin to a more recent thread about cars. Why do people fork out ten's of thousands if not hundreds of thousands for a vehicle. But are too stingy to pay $100 for a video game that can potentially give them 20-100's of hours of entertainment.
I buy games at full price often. I agree the cost is really marginal compared to most expenses, but when you buy a car or some other tangible product, it's different. You get a finished product designed to perform a specific function for years or even decades.
And if cars consistently went on sale for a fraction of their original price, I think people would hold off on buying them too.
Because people need cars, nobody needs video games.
Tbh I haven't really bought new games in years, I just play the same games over and over and over again and waste money on skin gambling and in game items.
Given that it is so easy to wishlist your games you want and sit back qnd wait for the notificatio s to come through when they are on sale, i never do it anymore.
Plus given free games from epic, ps plus etc id dont think i have spent more than 20 bucks on a game in the past 3 to 4 months.
Last purchase was Dayz on steam sale for 20 bucks.
If by "full price" you mean $90 or $99. No, never.
If by full price you mean the release date price from a competitive physical store so you're getting games for like $49 or $55 - then yeah. But only if I think it's a rare game that might not be reprinted,. Or if it's a switch game that I know will never go on sale.
I refuse to buy digital games.

Yeah, Switch games I'll sell on gummy or Marketplace because I can get double what they'll give me. But I had a not particularly popular hybrid tablet/laptop thing that I sold to them because it was easier than trying to sell it myself and the ones I'd seen listed for not much more weren't selling.
