[NSW] Up to $750 Cashback on Road Tolls @ NSW Government

1391

It's time for the ozbargainers to cross that harbour bridge more and annoy the northern suburbs or go cross city for dates

Comes into effect July 1

Under the scheme, drivers will get a $150 refund if they spend at least $375 on tolls in a year.

From then, they will get 40 per cent of their tolls reimbursed until they hit $1875 worth of toll expenses.

ServiceNSW will manage the rebates, which will be paid quarterly.

Drivers who apply for an existing cashback scheme on the M5 in Sydney’s southwest won’t be eligible.

For tolls incurred up to 30 June 2022, road users can continue to receive vehicle registration relief until 30 June 2023. For tolls incurred from 1 July 2022, customers can access the new program and will receive their first rebate payment in early 2023, followed by quarterly payments.

  • why not 40% off on toll fees?

    • +4

my understanding is: that reducing the toll fees = reducing the revenue of some private companies (who built/operate the tunnels).
With this cashback scheme, that 40% is coming from taxpayers' pocket - those private companies won't be affected (actually they'll get more, because of more toll users)

Waiting for JV to have a whing….. oh thats right, its not the brand he hates.

  • Bulk discount on rego and tolls for using tollways a lot - not quite sure I understand why apart from guilt of ripping people off too much.

This scheme undermines the (purposeless) toll system in the first place

If ever there was a deal that was a scam this is it.

    1. Use taxpayer funds to build westconnex
    2. Sell westconnex
    3. Use taxpayer funds to bribe taxpayers

In the end, the cash goes around in circles between big business and this government and the only schmuck left paying is me and you.

    Are company vehicles excluded?
I've just bought a car in my business's name and applied for a e-tag.

If companies don't qualify, what stops me using my personal tag in the company car?

  • +1

The proposed scheme for next year is much better and fairer than the current tiered scheme as it better rewards lighter users and gives moderate users a higher reward.

BTW, has anyone checked their toll relief tracker recently? Mine is completely inaccurate since e-toll changed their software at end of February when it showed a total of $712. Since then it dropped down to $12 and has gradually increased to $451. It should be $995.

  • "Drivers who apply for an existing cashback scheme on the M5 in Sydney’s southwest won’t be eligible"

    This contradicts the press release

"Will the M5 South-West Cashback Scheme continue?
The M5 South-West Cashback Scheme will remain unchanged"

  • Is this per car or per account?

    • Good question. I wonder we should use the same tag on multiple cars

So why do you NSW ppl still vote LNP at State elections?

  • It's time for the ozbargainers to cross that harbour bridge more and annoy the northern suburbs or go cross city for dates

going north there is no toll.
It's time for the ozbargainers to cross that harbour bridge more and discover the southern suburbs.

or, going south use Gladesville or Silverwater, though that highly depends on where you're going to /from.

    • northerners hate the bridge toll as much as anyone else.

  • What happens if everyone just stopped paying tolls? They can’t chase everyone LOL

NSW liberals have sold the soul of our beloved state! Scandals after scandals and they buy our votes by giving us this carrots.. sad

    • Move more tax payers money to toll operators and make you think that they are giving you carrots

  • Do we need to apply for this or is it automatic?

    • +1

Need to claim it back through your toll site

There must be an election coming up
Nsw seems to be the last bastion of die hard libs in the country and will follow them off a cliff if they had to

Election next year. They need to go. They've messed up the state so badly. I hope people remember how badly our koala population has been decimated by the fires in 2019/20 due to their decisions.

  • Cheers Dom

  • I have opted out of M5 cashback today. Does that mean I now qualify for upto $750 cashback?

    • So you can't have both the M5 cashback and the new scheme?

      • Drivers who apply for an existing cashback scheme on the M5 in Sydney’s southwest won’t be eligible.

        That's what the post says.

      • Drivers who apply for an existing cashback scheme on the M5 in Sydney’s southwest won’t be eligible.

      • No, you can have both M5 cashback and be eligible for the new scheme. Just the tolls you've claimed for m5 cashback can't be claimed again for the 40% rebate, i.e. double dipping.

    • You don't need to opt out of M5 West cashback to be eligible to the new scheme.

If you opt in to M5 cashback, the amount spent on M5 West would not be eligible for the 40% rebate cashback. The amount spent on other tolls roads (M4, M8, M5 East etc) would still be eligible for the rebate.

  • How many times are you Sydney siders paying for those roads?

  • +5

These sydney toll roads has to be the worst forms of wealth transfer in Australian history.

    • Atrocious that people here are okay with it. The worst part is, the toll roads have pot holes and are very poorly maintained. So you pay big monies to use roads which are nearly developing country quality. Public roads in Perth(ALL FREE) are KING, even Melbourne and Brissie have amazing roads compared to Sydney, and those 2 capital cities barely have tolls.

  • You can put your claims through now.

  • +2

Reminder that claims for the previous quarter are now open
