Recent 'NBN Technology Choice' Sign-Ups - What Was Your Connection Experience/Timeline Like?

So we're now 1.5 years into 'Technology Choice' quote self-service thing and 2.5 years into the pandemic…so I'm kind of hoping that NBN and their contractors know how to do these connections professionally and with minimum delay.

I thought I'd try my luck here to see if anyone has recent-ish experience with fulfilment of an accepted Technology Choice quote for FTTH?

In particular:

  • Lead time from quote acceptance to contact from the local contractor
  • Any unexpected surprises that created delay or angst
  • "On the day" experience with regards to location of the new hardware at your home
  • Are you in a metro or regional location?

I've received a new quote (just over $6K) which, while still eye-watering, I can justify with my domestic CFO as it's under half the cost previously quoted and our current 47/18 connection is driving us crazy if we're both pushing heavy traffic at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

What technology are you currently on? I wouldn’t be paying $6,000 given how many cases NBN is offering free upgrade to FTTP if you take up 100mbps+ plans.

    • I'm currently on FTTN. Property (new) was only connected in the last 12 months. According to the RSP I'm using FTTP is at least 12 months away.

      • Who is the RSP, and have they got a basis for saying this?

        • Who is the RSP

It's one of the big five RSPs. For privacy/security reasons, there are some details (eg medical, telecom, financial services) I choose not to share online.

have they got a basis for saying this?

I have no idea. I don't work for an RSP or the NBN and have no idea what information/insights are shared between them and when

@[Deactivated]: I’d just be a bit careful with relying on this. Obviously if it came from Telstra or Optus it’s likely wrong. There’s also the age of the info - they could be reading something from months ago, or worse yet just making it up to get you off the call

Good call. I'll keep making enquiries.

Worst-case scenario is I end up $6K out of pocket for what might have otherwise been a $0 upgrade. This would definitely hurt, but I'll need to prioritise bandwidth over wallet reaming ;-)

https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/fttp-upgrade-w… may also see the program extended with the new government .

    • (See reply to @kipps, above)

It could be upwards of 12 months in a best-case scenario. At (simple maths) $16/day over 12 months, I'll eat that upfront cost just to create additional WFH harmony ;-)
