And still free at VentraIP to find the best ongoing rate you can always check the wiki I keep it up-to-date regularly these days.

    • Ehhhh… You'll find very few registrars actually check this nowadays. It's quite a shame really. You can register pretty much anything with any eligibility…

      • Hmm. TPP certainly does check. Have had to "justify" quite a few domains over the years for customers, with some flat out rejected due to no close representation of the business name.

        Certainly for .au

        .com is far more lax.

        • Bizarrely, TPP was going to be one of the examples.. I registered a new domain yesterday (.com.au), used ABN/Business Name as eligibility, and they were not related in the slightest…

Google Domains is however the absolute worst. They'll let anyone register anything.

          • @ryang: The original posters comments are still valid though even though you can find registrars that will poorly in force eligibility.

Eligibility long-term falls back on you so you're only hurting yourself, as one report could make your domain go bye-bye.

Most registrars these days do valid checking unfortunately and I don't know why auDA allows companies like TPP Wholesale to get away with it.

By the way the Google and TPP thing doesn't surprise me given they use the same accreditation and Google is a reseller on .au domains, Google uses CentralNic to resell, who is now the lovely new owner of TPP.

OVHcloud also might want to get your product pages fixed. Firstly it's not a gTLD and auDA a very different rules and policies to ICANN you should contact the registrar of record you're using to resell and ask for the correct details and time frames.

For example Booking Period and Renewal Period should be 1 to 5 years and renewals can only be done in the last 90 days but there's even more information you need to get fixed on that page.

  • cheaper here for .com.au https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/651173
    $9.20 first year / $9.90 renewals

    $20 for a .com.au renewal is expensive

    • $20 for a .com.au renewal is expensive

Relatively yes unfortunately most of the industry is well above $22 a year and funnily enough that's with a lot of the providers that market themselves as low cost cheaper alternatives.

  • Does this price include DNS record managment?

CD used to sell $10 domains then to actually do anything with them (edit the zones) it was another $30.

Clever or dodgy - make up your own mind but a lot of my customers caught out that way. Not sure whether they still do this or not.

    • If ever needed, CloudFlare offer free DNS (amongst a host of other things).

      • But it's always better to pick a reputable domain name registrar. As the registration itself is more important than where you host your DNS long-term.
