Buying Used Laptop - Dell XPS 7590 (Budget $1150)

Hi folks,

I need to buy a work laptop that will be used for emails, writing, browsing the web and watching YouTube. No gaming or anything like that. It needs to have a screen size of 15.6 inches or more, and it ideally needs to have small bezel. The build quality should be good and I'd also like the colour to not be black (I'm not fussed about the inside though). My budget is <$1150.

Keeping that in mind, I found a used Dell XPS 15 7590. Is this a good laptop? Have any of you experienced issues with it? It's the 2019 model I think, is that too old for a used laptop?

Lastly, can you guys recommend me a good laptop that fits that criteria?

Thanks!

  • Is this a good laptop?

It's fine - nice aluminium body. Sleek design.

You didn't mention the internal specs, which will largely determine whether it's a good price.

is that too old for a used laptop?

Not really, but it depends on the overall condition. Some old laptops are prone to overheating issues, when the thermal pastes dry up and the fans get clogged with dust.

Keep an eye out on the dell outlet. I'm pretty sure I've seen low spec XPS15s for not much more than the used one.

    • Internal specs:
      32 RAM
      512SSD
      i5-9300H
      GTX 1650

Cheers. I'll keep an eye out!

According to ebay recent sales, you should be getting at i7 for that price.

I didn't see a similar spec i5 machine in the recent sales, but I'd probably value it at under 1k.

        • Yep you're right. The one I was looking at is priced at $950, so I think it's a pretty good deal.
