another option, cheaper Joseph version, $31.50 - plus any eBay codes

    • +1

Yeah I saw that when I was googling. If I'm buying something like this I'd probably spend the extra amount to get the nicer one. Having said that our dish rack is a really expensive one (not J&J). Would love to get replacement parts for it but can't get them in Australia.

      • Which one do you have & where did you obtain it from?

        • +4

We got a simplehuman one. Got it for about $140 from Myer when they used to stock it. The first one we got rusted a little bit but I think it was a known issue and they fixed the design so we were able to get a new one for free. They let us keep the old one. Going on 9 years since we got the first one. Issue is the wire rack thing on the bottom is going rusty. In the States you can just get a replacement one. Don't deliver internationally unfortunately.

If the price is right we'll probably get another one. They don't seem to get discounted much as not many places stock them now. You can get them from Peter's of Kensington and I think sometimes Amazon stocks it. Currently $180. Maybe crazy expensive but we like the simplehuman products that we have. Customer service is pretty good. Maybe we could get it replaced through warranty but it's had a good run so we are OK with getting a new one.

          • @ozbs25: Thank you ;)

            • @adinico: I have just noticed that their new new design does not have an integrated knife block in the utensils compartment. It's probably our favourite thing out of the whole dish rack. We pretty much keep our knives in there whenever we don't use them. We only transfer them to our other knife block when we know we aren't going to use them for a while. I wonder if our old utensils compartment would fit into the new design. Almost a deal breaker…

          • @ozbs25: Peter's ebay had their 20% off sale just recently. Was it in stock then?

            • @bargainshooter: Hmm. I was looking for stuff to buy from them actually to try to make up that $90 offer eBay was running, but it didn't enter my mind to look for it. Looking now, they don't seem to have any simplehuman stuff on their eBay site. Maybe they don't want any of it exposed to any discounts.

              • @ozbs25: What was the $90 offer? I'm always late to the party! 😁

                • @bargainshooter: Spend $90 to get a $10 voucher. Can't find the exact ozb link sorry.

      • What makes it better though? In some ways the cheaper one is better, it's bigger in dimensions, there's no metal to rust or discolour, and while the spout seems fixed it better than having a plug that leaks (as per someone's comment below). Also cheaper. It is the case that sometimes items are over engineered to their detriment

        • I didn't say it was better. I said it was nicer. It may seem silly but sometimes we do buy things that look nicer. I'm pretty careful though with the things I buy and use. It's not just style over substance.

          • @ozbs25: Maybe I am strange but I don't think there's such a thing as aesthetically pleasing dish rack, although I guess I wouldn't buy one of those white rubber dipped ones

            • @Jackson: It's more my wife than me really. As it's something that would sit out in the open where everyone can see it she wants something that's more aesthetically pleasing. She worries a lot about how our kitchen looks.

              • @ozbs25: All good, with all the progress we've made as a society it's still almost always the female partner that is concerned with how the house presents, esp the kitchen I guess. If it makes her feel better than I guess it's worth it, plus you really want to pick your battles :)

Is the RRP real?? A dish rack for $135??

    • We got our dish rack for $140 discounted many years ago. $180 RRP. Some brands are just expensive. We'll probably get another one if we find it discounted again. We really like it.

    • +1

No see my comment below. They were only 135 for one day on Amazon. The rest it's been around 60-70.

      Source: https://www.joinhoney.com/shop/amazon-au/p/14383961556549245…

      • That's on Amazon. Obviously you're going to try to get it for the cheapest price but this dish rack is being sold for the full RRP at Myer right now. Most places online are also way over $70, closer to $90.

    • +1

At a certain point you may as well buy a dishwasher. It comes with free racks built in.

      • Our dishwasher wasn't cheap either…

  • +2

As a comparison, saw this at Costco the other day. I guess the price in this deal is decent, minus the soap dispenser.

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/32825/96131/wash_rack.…

    • That's not a bad deal. Wonder if they will have to clear it some time in the future…

    • +1

      nice design, but looks tiny?

4 plates + 4 glasses - this would only be good for singles or couples, methinks

      • It does extend a little but yeah it does look a little small. I'd have to see it and I'd wait until they are clearing it.

      • Even the cheaper one at big w is much bigger

  • Rubbermaid dishracks for the win, a fraction of the price and no rust. Can get it from Bunnings from $27. You just need to get your own tray underneath if you need one.

  • +2

This dish rack is dish WHACK

  • In my experience anything with bare uncoated stainless steel eventually rusts and looks horrible… Has anyone, in particular that may own this, not had that problem?

    Maybe the more expensive ones… Are better materials… And don't rust…? 😅

I need a new one but heavily looking toward plastic TBH

My $10 Kmart 2-tier dish rack from 2018 does the job as good, thank you very much.

    • +1

      You're more than welcome.

      • +1

And I thank you for welcoming me.

  • I looked at this dish rack before settling on the one I have now. One thing that this doesn't have is, the spout for the drain cannot be changed to a different direction which is why I decided not to get this dish rack in the end.

    • What did you get instead?

      • +3

I ended up buying this one from amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B086GDM69Y/ref=ppx_yo_d…
great quality on both the metal parts (so far after admittedly has only been 2 months, it hasn't rusted) and plastic.

        • +1 for the KingRack, absolutely love mine. Well worth it in my opinion, I've had mine since Sept 2021 and still looks great with no rusting.

        • Ordered, looks much better.

    • Which direction you needed it?

Don't you just rotate the whole thing 180 degrees if it suits your kitchen more?

  • +6

These we're only the RRP for literally one day of their life on amazon. The 'real' RRP is $70: https://www.joinhoney.com/shop/amazon-au/p/14383961556549245…

    • RRP has always been a marketing gimmick. Up-price (can't think of a real word.. increase the markup?) the RRP, and 'reduce' it so you get a 'deal', when the deal price (not long after launch) is the actual worth.

  • Thanks I'm looking for a dish rack and this looks good !

  • FYI picked this exact dishrack up for $40 couple of months ago from Amazon, "used". Took a chance and when it came the box had been opened but all parts inside were still sealed and brand new. Been looking out for "used" products since, but havn't found any bargains. YMMV.

    • you can buy USED from Amazon? that's new to me…

      • We bought something used as new. Looked like it was just a returned product with the packaging slightly "damaged". We got some kitchen utensils and they had to attach it to the cardboard backing with something that wasn't original like a twist tie or something.

        • but where I can search for those used/returned items?

          • +4

@CharityCase: It was an option for something that I wanted to buy. You can just trawl through their warehouse page. I haven't really had too much of a look. Some ozbargainers have snagged some good deals through the warehouse.

            Amazon Warehouse

            • @ozbs25: Wow, going to check out the warehouse, couldn't work out how to search this before. Cheers.

          • @CharityCase: Under some products it says "Compare New/ Used products"

            • @nepalesesquirrel: I didn't realise this until this year. Took a gamble on a 46mm Galaxy Watch classic for $379, only thing wrong with it was that the box was a bit dirty and dented, was completely sealed and brand new

    Nice rack

About to pull the trigger, until I read the comments:

Reviewed in Australia on 11 July 2019
    Colour Name: GreyVerified Purchase
Overall design is ok, but not the most robust of designs which is a little disappointing. The two piece design is prone to leaking which is hardly ideal when the whole purpose was to minimize water contact with the bench top. Also, the “tap” which delivers the waste water collected in the tray is a little fragile; it comes apart quite easily which isn’t the best given its natural position is over the edge of the sink, where it is easy to knock. So it works as promised however I am uncertain about its longevity. Better reinforcement of the base would help the leakage issue.

Aug 2019: It's now a couple of months since my earlier review. My concerns have been validated. A great design, poorly implemented. It continues to leak and the drainage tap and extension is even more fragile than I thought originally.

Much as all that I like the design, I would advise any potential buyer to look at one of the many alternatives offering similar function. I have already ordered a different product to replace this one.

    • +2

Gotta appreciate a well-worded critical review.

    • You realise this is from amazon if there is any issues you can return it within 30 days

      • Where does it say so for this listing?

It's not like every single thing on Amazon can be returned, esp. for free.

  • Can this handle something like a frying pan or saucepan. It doesn't look like it

    • When collapsed 320 x 365.
      When fully extended 535 x 365.

Not sure about sturdiness of this plastic.

  • +1

Still using this, can handle crazy amount of dishes, hope IKEA will a stainless steel version.
