AmEx Platinum Business Card: 300,000 MR Points ($12,000 Spend in 3 Months), Platinum Perks, $875 Annual Fee First Year

100

Obviously this deal is not everybody but for business owners who can churn at least 12,000 in 3 months. The sweet spot is the reduced annual fee in the first year (usually 1750). Note this is a charge card.

In addition to 300,000 points which can be used to pay card fee or as credit or can be converted to major airlines' points generally at 2:1 ratio, it also comes with Platinum perks including

  • Platinum concierge service
  • Lounge access to Amex lounges, Virgin lounges and Priority pass lounges (value depends)
  • Dell credit up to $125 twice a year
  • AccorPlus membership (valued at $399) - with complimentary night stay each year
  • Premium level travel insurance
  • The Australian premium subscription (perhaps a deal breaker to some)
  • Gold-tier status at Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and Radisson Hotel Group
  • Platinum benefits with Hertz and Avis
  • Chance of statement credits (assuming)

Dont think this comes with any travel credit.
No fee for up to 99 Employee Cards

Conditions include

  • be a Director or Controller of the business
  • have an annual business revenue of $75,000 or more
  • have a valid ABN registered for GST
  • no other Amex card in the last 18 months

Hmmm you must work in cardiology. Your username tells me this deal is bound to give you torsades.

    • Didn’t pick that up, thanks for the good giggle

      • He might need a little bit of you to tame his excitement

  • Do the perks justify $1750 annual premium?

    • 875 fee for the first year.

      • I saw that. But for people who do not hit the 12k in 3 months, is the annual fee worth it for the perks you get?

I think you'll get the $875 annual fee, even without meeting the minimum spend. You'll just miss out on the bonus points.

Without the bonus points, this deal would suck. The perks don't equal $875 (imo).

If you are getting this card surely you’re spending $12,000 in three months.

Given some of the comments on the recent deal - was necessary to include

  • OMG, 12K after tax money spend in 3 months?

    • Buy a car

I believe a 2%-3% surcharge will be applied (for AMEX) except for the deposit.

        • Sniip can do payments for only 1.5%, including ATO debts. If you're paying 2%+ or more on large purchases then you're getting ripped.

      Pay GST/PAYG?

    • Doesn’t seem to hard to me to achieve, although I am in a household of 6 so our expenses are probably higher than most.

Having a look at some stats it looks like the average expenses for a family of 4 is about $4k a month, although that’ll likely include some expenses you wouldn’t typically put on a credit card such as rent/mortgage. To get the average for my family of 6 I plugged in some number at the bellow link and living costs that exclude mortgage are 40k to 55k on average for a “basic” to “moderate” lifestyle, which is near or in excess of the 12k a quarter if you can put most things that aren’t a mortgage on credit cards (that you hopefully then pay off before accruing interest).

Price will be more daunting to smaller households I imagine. Lesson being that kids are expensive.

Just because we spend at or near that, I’d never justify a card with such a high fee myself however.

It’s a business card. Not much of a business if you aren’t seeing that level of expenses.

      • Exactly

Thanks OP. Got one each for the whole family.

  • And how is the DJ's Amex not accepting cash payments anymore. Wonder if other Amex products are the same?

    • How did you pay cash? Mail them a wad of bills? Or do they have a pay at Post or in store?

    • They mean cash in store. You can still pay in store using EFTPOS.

  • 99 Employee cards

I wish I was one of them

    • Card applicants be like: I got 99 employees, but you ain't one.

  • This might be a stupid question but what's the best card (I know very vague) for someone that never got a CC?

Where do I start? What should I consider?
