PSA: UberPass continues to charge after cancelation

TL;DR: cancelled UberPass during trial period, got charged 2 more months before I noticed. Rep agreed to refund only one month despite evidence of cancelation.

For ease of reading:

  • March: took up UberPass trial, cancel and took screenshot on the app.
Screenshot states membership ends on 30th April as well as showing a button to renew. No email cancelation confirmation.
  • 30th April: got charged $9.99, didn’t notice. No email invoice.
  • 30th May: got charged $9.99 again. No email invoice again. Luckily we caught it on the statement. App now shows membership is active.
  • No orders was made from 30th April onward, no benefits obtained from membership.

Got in touch with Uber on the app, provided screenshot and asked for refund of 2 months paid. Rep replies within minutes with the spiel, sorry to see you go etc. we will refund the last month paid.
I asked them again to refund 2 months, remind them to refer to the screenshot I’ve provided. No further replies.
Will now go the chargeback route (small amount yes, but principle).

So check your statement folks.

  • uber being shady? I am shocked

good on you for sticking with chargeback for the principle of it. too often these bastards get away with it because people can't be bothered over a small amount (but how much is uber making off these lazy people?)

  • Charge back could end up with you being terminated from the Uber platform so be careful.

I think this will catch out quite a few people

You can cancel your membership within the app up to 48 hours prior to the next scheduled payment without being charged.

One would think you should be able to cancel the day before it gets charged. I nearly fell for it, thinking cancelling the day before should be fine.

I do not know if your case is even more egregious - in that you have cancelled more than 48 hours prior. If so, there is even less excuse for this to have happened.

Ignoring the 48 hours thing, they still managed to charge me not only that coming month, but also the month after (cancelled on or before 30/4, screenshot says membership ends 30/4, got charged 30/4 and 30/5, membership got switched back to active).
I also find the lack of email trails (cancellation, invoices etc.) very deliberate and dodgy. If I hadn’t taken a screenshot they could have simply said I never canceled my subscription.

Yes, if they are already sending emails about the meals ordered, why not emails about monthly charging and cancelling of the uber pass?

  • What’s ur purpose of this posting?
Possibly u forget to click ‘confirm to cancel’,
or u did buy a whole year membership (so u want to break the contract) so cancel won’t work immediately

I guess reading is not your forte.
But hey, if I need to quickly dish out some cheap shots after getting flaks on my own post, I'd probably skim read too.

      I'll entertain you anyway.

What’s ur purpose of this posting?

      PSA, it's in the title.

Possibly u forget to click ‘confirm to cancel’,

      It's in the body:

Annual membership gets charged in lump sum annually, but again I wouldn't expect you to know that.

      • So what I think is u r the worst luck guy with 1/10000000 probability of system error?
Or u think Ubereat with million sales try to steal ur $10.

Or (I think) the reason u post here is to abreact u lost $10 due to ur fault of missing cancelation?

Come on. Go get a job

        • That's right, don't let logical response get in the way of a good argument.

Come on. Go get a job

Damn, I'm gonna lose sleep over this comeback.
