Indeed
Given its part of EA access, what's the chances it gets removed from Game pass?
As long as EA Access is a part of Game Pass, I can see it being there. EA Access is probably there to keep number of games high, but many EA Games have DLC available, so EA are probably happy to keep it there as long as Microsoft pay them and DLCs are being sold.
IMHO it's best to jump straight into ME2. I feel number 1 hasn't aged that well.
The good thing is that they have included Mass Effect:Genesis if proceeding that way.
It's an interactive comic that fills in the story of ME1 allowing you to make choices that would have played out in that game.
These then carry over into ME2. It triggers about 10-15 minutes after starting a new game…
If you're playing the game for the story then you are missing out a lot of great world building from the first game. I agree that the gameplay hasn't age well but it's worth to play through it just for the story alone. Just play it on the easiest difficulty and go biotics (adept class).
I absolutely disagree. The first game is a masterpiece of story and world building and should absolutely not be skipped. Any old gen funkiness in the gameplay will become a non issue a few hours in once the game has got its hooks into you.
Imagine not watching the fellowship of the ring or skipping Harry Potter and the philosophers stone… a short interactive slideshow will not suffice to catch you up on the dozens of hours you would have spent in that world (I took around 50 hours).
I don't think equating a 50 hour experience to a 2.5 hour one though is fair.
Reality is most people I've spoken to are put off by the antiquated mechanics of the first game.
I agree that you absolutely miss out on the nuance, key story beats etc. that come with the full Mass Effect experience, which starts with the very first game (or Mass Effect:Revelation novel if wanting to go further back).
However, this is a compromise some should make who are time poor as I genuinely believe ME2 is one of the greatest games ever made.
Some that I've recommended do this then go back and play ME 1 (after completing 2 and 3) and make different choices and still have an enriching experience knowing that what is to come make it worth it.
They concede though, that they likely would have (or indeed did), drop/dropped the first game 5-6 hours in unfortunately.
I'd usually agree if it was the original ME1, but the legendary edition has made a lot of changes that make it better to play and not worth skipping over
The first one is the best in the series, definitely don’t listen to this guy.
Noooooo! Thats like telling someone to watch Empire Strikes Back without watching A New Hope first. You'll be missing so much of the context.
The games carry decisions made from the very first one, so play them from the first. The gameplay isn’t the best, but the legendary edition has fixed a lot and for story purposes it’s really better to play them all.
Finished this game on Game Pass last month. It's amazing. Great story, action, atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I see Mass Effect I upvote
I played ME3 on PS3 when it released and never played the first 2 as I believe they were Xbox exclusives at the time. Fast forward to the release of Legendary Edition and I bought with the intention of playing all 3. I have put in a 8 hours before dropping ME1 and going straight to ME2. I agree the fullest and richest experience would be to get through the first one but man, ain't nobody got time for dat, ME2 is a breath of fresh air gameplay wise. I don't regret my decision. But for the die hard fans I understand this is very unacceptable lol. Anyway, moral of my story, if you don't have gamepass, for $20 this is a steal.
Went to JB Hifi and matched the price with amazon plus a $10 coupon off (Perks). Ended up paying $10 :)
This is on gamepass?
