AUDIOENGINE A2+ Active Speakers with Bluetooth (Black, Red, White) $359.10 (Was $399) Delivered / SYD C&C @ Apollo HiFi

70

EDIT: $319.20 from digiDirect with eBay Plus code PLSAVE20 thanks to superforever!

Not the cheapest price I can see since last year which was $319.20, however cheapest at the moment I believe if you can't wait… like me. I need to get rid of my crackling wired Logitech speakers with sub taking over my workspace. These will fit neatly under my monitor.

All colours available, and other range A5+ on sale too. Not sure when this sale ends, doesn't seem to be specified. Shippit courier option available to me in NSW for extra $10 or so.

Enjoy!

Awesome, updated, do I need to change the whole ad? I just added your comment in. Cheers!

  • Are these any good? Surely you can get a decent set of powered or even a passive setup with an amp for cheaper with better or equal performance?

Yep, I got the A2 (the version before this), and I've had them for 12 years now. Still going strong. I use them with the D1 DAC for better sound. The A2+ has a built in DAC.

What the…. Are we the same person? That’s what I run on my PC as well

We’re all the same! Love my A2s. Had them for about 8 years and still sound as great as when I bought them.

          • @The Captain: Can y'all tell me if the DAC will help the bass issue?

I run A2's with the S1 sub and the A2's always max out on bass with that awful sound.

Claity on these are fantastic but man do they struggle with bass notes

            • @BirdPirch: Yeah, they're not very bassy. The A2s don't have a built in DAC (unlike the A2+). I run my A2s through a stand alone DAC (A Nuforce uDAC3). Sorry, not sure how to configure the sub with them. I just had a look for you - a good discussion on this page here re the challenge of setting up a sub w an A2+

@The Captain: It's not the lack of bass that is the issue for me as such, it's them maxing out with bass. Sounds horrible, can head the ports whooshing air around and it's a mess haha. They need to be high passed.

I will look into a DAC for my setup, something that can seperate highs and lows. Unfortunately the audio engine sub doesn't have this built in.

    • They do have a very particular sound profile. I personally don't like it. There is zero bass, and the highs are very strong, but not super accurate IMO.

I would consider some Edifier's if you aren't over the very high/high mid sound.

      • You need to use the DS1 stands to angle it upwards and provide some isolation from the table. Positioning matters. There is bass, but not room shaking bass.

        • Positioning matters greatly to get the tiny amount of low end it has, having some room behind it but also a solid wall to use will help. I mean as a set of speakers, they don't cover much of the low end at all, even the A5+ is the same. I find that they suit a very narrow band of music, and preference of speaker profile/sound. I don't like them one bit, especially considering the price.

  • These are really small - just 2.75" drivers. Assuming you want to listen to the full frequency range including bass, then look for something a bit bigger…

The same seller has Klipsch and Wharfdale bookshelf speakers under $400 with 4" drivers - you'll need a Bluetooth amp to duplicate the functionality of the active speakers in this deal - much better sound for not much more outlay…

  • Bought these to replace the will-never-die Logitech Z2300. Took a while to adjust but it was such a huge improvement in audio quality - cant go back.

I also have them connected to an old Yamaha subwoofer too which added extra supporting bass.

No regrets at all! Would buy again.

  • I bought these but returned. I just need a bigger sound. Not an audiophile but I guess that means more bass. Ended up with the A5+ and that still didn't tick my boxes so I bought a monoprice sub to team them up with.

Now? I love it. But the sub brings it together. For me, the speakers alone weren't enough. This was moving on from a logitech z-5500D so I was really used to tons and tons and tons of bass and I needed that feeling in my chest to be satisfied.

Nice find. I rate the AudioEngine stuff, have a set of HD4's myself hooked up to a turntable near my work desk. Very clean sound across all their speakers I found (although if you want booming bass then shop elsewhere.. or get a sub).
All their gear is quite well made, and it's nice they provide stuff like speaker and RCA cables and pouches to keep them in.

I’ve got the A2 (older) and they work well in my opinion. There is a lack of bass but they sound quality over usb makes up for that. I’m not a bass head tbh. I’ve also tilted the speakers upwards towards my ears (using a offcut of wood) and I’m kinda amazed for the size how well they sound.
