Audio Technica Content Creator Pack $179 (Was $291) + Delivery ($0 in-Store/ C&C/ to Metro) @ Officeworks

621

Perfect if you want to get into podcasting or want to step up your WFH game.

I think this might be a clearance item, but when I looked on Friday it was $291 now down to $179.

Seems to be a great starter pack, especially considering it includes a boom, which can retail for around this price anyway.

Plenty of reviews available on youtube.

The pack includes an ATR2500x condenser microphone, M20x headphones, a boom arm, cable and a tripod.

For $180, this is actually a pretty good price. The mic and headphones would already reach the $200 mark or so, then you got the boom arm as well on top of that. 12 month warranty as well.

The RRP of $279 would have been a bit exorbitant, $180 seems like good value.

    • Where do we reckon the mic sits for quality on the Blue Yeti range (as a popular reference)?

Looks like they're matching JB. Don't think there's any storewide codes but discounted GCs are an option and the $10 off voucher.

This is still wildly overpriced for what it is.

The mic is too messy in the bass and low mids, too brittle in the treble, rolls off too early without any benefits, and - unless anything's changed since launch - has no direct volume control for the monitoring jack in software or hardware.

The other software features are sorely lacking compared to competitors, and the mic quality level doesn't push past that of the Seiren Mini, which is often $50.

Moving over to the M20X, you're getting ok build quality, but otherwise a headphone that is too often outclassed by $30 options. The boom arm doesn't seem to be doing much to outclass existing $20 options.

The HyperX SoloCast is a $50 mic on sale, and the K361 are often available for $100, sometimes as low as $80, before cashbacks, coupons and gift cards. As a combo, they handily defeat this, though you may not be a fan of the K361 for tracking if that's your intended use case.

Even then I think more can be done for the money, and way more quality is available to you if you invest a little extra into an XLR setup, but if you're just looking for better comms for zoom, you're probably fine with the aforementioned $50 options (or as a step up, the Razer Seiren X for $80 it's $69 right now on Amazon) and your existing headphones/headset.

Despite the claimed drop, there's no deal here. Audio Technica are still trading in on their reputation as decent value for money circa 2017.

Thanks for this comment. And thanks to this comment, I just ordered the Seiren X mic :)

Looked at some reviews (but from a year or two ago).
    Overall impressions seem to be;
Mic - great for the price
    Headphones - not so good
    Boom - works fine

A bit puzzled by lack of pop filter in a kit like this.

Yes. More content creators is what the world needs right now.

For $179, it is ok price if you want a set of mic and monitor phones quickly. 2500 is sold for $119 now and M20x is well worth $60.

  • Costco is selling this one too, don't remember same price or lower

M20X is a big downside in the package. Retail at ~$65 but nobody wants it.
Boom arm is not offering much more than a $20 amazon one
Overall I don't think this is a good deal
