There's also a pop-out panel on the right side of the page where you can spin a wheel to win a free box but I'd say the chances are probably pretty slim

  • +6

I have ordered it but what have I ordered?

  • +27

inb4 it gets OzBargained, store decides not to honour, people are surprised, people get mad, people say report ACCC and then nothing happens. Wash and repeat for every other freebie over the years.

    • +20

All I want is my free beers without having to cheat on my wife via Tinder dammit…

      • That one is an exception :P

        • +2

They're honouring the Free 4-Pack of Sidewinder XPA

          • +1

@HairyChickens: Yep I got the notification.

My point with the original comment is more about small businesses offering free samples and not expecting a shitload of orders from OzBargain. As opposed to larger companies offering mass marketing campaigns like with the Sidewinder.

What’s the catch? Am I going to get smashed with spam mail?

    • +3

That's normally the case with 99% of the freebies we see here on OZB

      • Great, I took the bait :(

        • +17

Veterans have a dedicated email for this stuff haha.

          I'm considering a dedicated home address too…..

          • @HairyChickens: I've just started using iCloud's Hide My Email. Perfect for freebies and spam

          • +1

@HairyChickens: Just use one of those AusPost's lockers? (sorry I don't know what that thing actually called)

          • +1

@HairyChickens: @HairyChickens: My dedicated home address for freebies is my office :)

          • @HairyChickens: I'm considering buying a 1 bedroom place just to send OzBargain freebies to. Surely the freebies will save me enough money to pay off the house :)

          • @HairyChickens: So, unless these kids have a warehouse full of gum, I’m actually expecting a single packet of Hubba Bubba in the mailbox (if not a single piece). 100% a marketing scam.

After failing to accept delivery of my free can of Pepsi from interstate I think I'll just leave this one alone

    • +7

      I got mine today :D

Turns out I like coke more.

      • Yes but you don’t need a straw for Pepsi.

      • +3

Same. But it was Coke with sugar. Also a bit weird that they sent a bigger can of the competitors product and a smaller can of their own.

        • I think they did themselves a disfavour. If it was coke zero vs pepsi max, i think pepsi max might've had a better chance

That cookie dough bar was absolutely disgusting.

    • doesn't actually go though

  • Anyone ever actually received anything from these guys?

    • +1

These guys as in freebies in general or this specific company? Haven't had any prior experience with these people, but generally freebies do come. The free Blue Dinosaur snacks for one, have also received quite a few other samples and other free stuff without problem.

  • +3

Was looking at the free samples and signed up for newsletters which gave me a 20% off offer, so ordered a sample box and this month's box for $31.96.

Ongoing cost is $40/month so you will have to cancel the subscription manually if you do this.

    • +14

Who is buying forty dollars of bubblegum a month i have to meet them

    • +1

Thank you for actually supporting small business.
Try code: ‘30%OFF’ to .. you guessed it.. get 30% off

      • The wheel shows 20% 30% and 50% off

The email had this code 20-%-OFF, I didn't bother trying to change the codes as it auto applied the 20% for me.

      • +8

The 50% off code is: 50%_OFF

        • Did you get lucky or is there a way to figure out what the 50% off code is for websites that have these types of things?

  • -5

Not free, I'm seeing a charge of $0.01..

    • +4

I didn’t even need to input any payment details.

  • +14

Description says they are in high school, go easy on them everyone…

    • +3

Says something about rocking high school which seems to imply they're either in or recently left it. Did you see anything else or interpret it differently?

      • +6

That and you can deduce from insta that one of the owners is 16 years old. Make your profiles private and don't put your birthday in your username kids!

        • +5

Aw I kinda feel bad that I requested a free one now…
It looks like a nice little side hustle for a 16 y/o!

          • +1

@duk242: Yeah same here. Especially as I don't think I'd be likely to keep going with it over the long-term. So I hope they don't spend their life savings on sending these out. It's a lot different when it's a big company just trying something out.

        • Oh damn, yeah I'd suggest that to anyone at any age. But can understand the concern for kids too.

    • +17

There comes a time in every young entrepreneurs endeavours to learn a valuable lesson about limiting freebies, using generic discount codes, and being ozbargained!

Won’t be mad if they cancel this one lol

      • +1

Yeah I kinda hope they pull the pin. Can send everyone an email explaining it, maybe they'll still get a few customers

    • +4

Thanks for calling this out. Decided not to claim a freebie this time as I'm unlikely to put through a paid order. 🙂

    • +1

My order number is almost #4500, if its sequential then chances are they've been smashed. That's a lot of emails to go through. Many spam filters wouldn't even let them send out that much as a direct message. A lot to handle. Would be a good idea to add a stock limit on things like this too.

      • +1

        Now order numbers over 8900

  • Should this be in freebie section

  • +2

Them: Get a free bubble gum, I'll spam your email and sell your details.

    OzBargains : free? I'm in!
    🤣

  • +1

Those bubble gum boxes are a great idea. Something different

    • The picture of it has about 18 items but the description says you will get between 7-10 items for $40

  • +1

Wonder if the girls would be ecstatic the marketing has been a roaring success or totally stressed out about the number of order they will have to fulfil lol. No biggie if nothing arrives in the post.

It should be noted that the free gift box (not necessarily the sample) is unattainable. Hidden in the source code is that the chance of receiving a 20%-off coupon is 64%, a 30%-off coupon is 28%, a 50%-off coupon is 8%, and a free box is 0%. Therefore it should be noted that the only real code of use is the 50%-off code, which is "50%_OFF" (without the quotation marks).

The exact data chances can be found below (as were in the code of the website):

    "20%25%20OFF\\" data-chance=\\"32.000000000000000\\"
    "50%25%20OFF\\" data-chance=\\"8.000000000000000\\"
    "FREE%20BOX\\" data-chance=\\"0.000000000000000\\"
    "20%25%20OFF\\" data-chance=\\"32.000000000000000\\"
    "FREE%20BOX\\" data-chance=\\"0.000000000000000\\"
    "30%25%20OFF\\" data-chance=\\"28.000000000000004\\"

Username checks out. No wonder jv wasn’t happy — these kinds of disingenuous games irk me too. Time to report these jokers to the ombudsman

      • Yeah I think this is someone who is overwhelmed with orders so they disabled the free boxes to limit them. From their facebook comments it looks like they do occasionally give away free boxes but I agree its not genuine, so would be good if they know what they're doing is somewhat misleading.

Its also easy to exploit and manually change so I don't think its a great way to give out free boxes over the long term anyway.

        • +3

Client-side code is an OzBargain favourite

    • Oh damn sorry didn't even look to see if this was posted. Just commented something pretty much exactly the same below.

I changed the chance to make it 100% and the code given is invalid anyway. I didn't want to post the codes in as its definitely a flaw and looks like a home business. Doesn't follow the same pattern.

  • +5

Have confirmed (at least on the page I was viewing) the chances when spinning the wheel:

    20% Discount, 64% chance
    30% Discount, 28% chance
    50% Discount, 8% chance
Free Box, 0% chance (yes, genuinely is set to '0.000000000000000' which makes it impossible).

I wanted to see if the free box was even an active code, so I changed to chances to make it 100% chance of a free box,it has been disabled but I genuinely would not have used it if it wasn't . So I don't even think its possible to get it.

Notably, It didn't follow the same predictable coupon code format as the others. But I'm not gonna paste it here anyway just in case it becomes active again. Its not easy to program stuff like this in so I don't want to criticise it too much; looks like it comes from another package/ad-on to shopify anyway.

      Another bubble burst

  • +7

Received this email from them a couple of weeks ago:

If you are still waiting on your FREE Bubblegum…Please note, all orders that DID NOT add just one free sample to their cart, were cancelled. We had people try and order 100s at a time.

We have a waiting list going on at the moment. We had 10K orders for the sample size gum within the first two weeks of opening our online store. As you can imagine, they cost us $2.00 each to post. As a small business, we can not post all the bubblegum at once. We do promise more are on the way and no one will miss out!

    • +3

We had people try and order 100s at a time.

Yes they're called scumbags and they ruin OzBargain.

  • +1

just went to check the status of my order… the website is down? i assume we won't be receiving our boxes…

    • Yeh been down for about a week. Gone

      • I checked and it was up on Tuesday, I'm still waiting on a paid order from them.

  • Just got an email in my junk ‘your order is on the way’

    • Same

      • +1

But email contains nothing useful lol

  • Got an email "we've shipped your order".

  • +1

apparently my order from 24.05 is still being prepared ;)

12,000 clicks and it’s a couple of kids handwriting on envelopes to give out free candy.. What did you expect?

      • +3

I didn't expect it was a couple of kids handwriting on envelopes giving out free candy.

  • +5

    Still not received…

    • +2

Same here. Neither me or my Mother have received anything other than the vague email with an offer for next months box, or something like that.

    • +4

Me neither, received 'shipped' email but no bubblegum yet :(

      • Still haven't received it. They aren't replying to emails either.

        Has anyone got it?
