What is your favourite hot sauce?

Tldr - what is your favourite hot sauce and where does it land on the scoville scale?

I've been watching Hot Ones on YouTube recently and it has got me in the mood to try some different hot sauces. I used to love spicy food but haven't really touched any in the last few years.

I looked up a few sauces that they used on Hot Ones but most of them are from the US and postage alone is around $30usd to Australia. I'm not keen on paying $50+USD for a bottle of hot sauce. In one episode the host mentioned that the second hottest sauce was from Australia so I looked that up and it was $18 delivered so I got a bottle to try, but thinking I might want to build up to it.

So I'm wanting to know what your favourite hot sauces are and where they land on the scoville scale?

Thanks in advance.

For anyone interested, this is the Australian hot sauce from hot ones https://dingosauceco.com/product/widow-maker/?v=d14d6f909ccf

The habanero from Pepper by Pinard. Right amount of spice, and goes with a lot of things

Nice and only $14 a bottle too. I'm going to give it a go for sure. I might try their hotter one too.

@haggertm: If that’s the case, head to Chilli Mojo on Magill Road

They also sell on COTD. I’ve bought from them before for $9 delivered (I had a free shipping code)

    • Legend!!

      • I grabbed a bottle of the habenero and a bottle of the reaper. Tried the smallest dab of the reaper and it lit up my whole mouth (in a good way) and was really tasty. Can't wait to eat more. I was tempted to get the 3 sauces and 3 jerkie deal with free delivery but I'm not very keen on bbq sauce.

        • Thats awesome!! Yeah I think you will really enjoy the Habanero. It's the perfect balance, won't burn your tounge off. Enjoy and thanks for buying.

Following. I made the switch from the Nandos Peri Peri bottles to Franks Hot Sauce, keen to try more though. I like the vinegary-ness of Franks.

I put that sh*t on everything.

One of the best slogans ever!

I wish they'd run the ads here.

        • I have definitely seen them here, maybe on Foxtel?

    Tobasco

Mine too. It doesn't even taste great, kinda like hot vinegar, but it compliments eggs really well.

        I like vinegar

        it compliments eggs really well.

Egg, I appreciate you. You are perfect just the way you are. On a scale from 1 to 10, you're an 11. You've got all the right moves. Everything would be better if more eggs were like you. You are an incredible egg. You bring out the best in other eggs. Jokes are funnier when you tell them.

    • I bought a bottle of the Habanero Tabasco tonight to give it a try. It's supposed to be 7000+ sku. I enjoyed it on my nachos bit not very spicy. I've tried the Chipotle Tabasco before too and really liked that one.

I love the Byron Bay Chilli Co. Fiery Coconut sauce for a little zing,

Best everyday put on everything sauce: https://secretaardvark.com/shop/sauce/aardvark-habanero-hot-…

Best want something a tad sweeter sauce: https://www.amazon.com.au/Valentina-Red-Label-Sauce-1000/dp/…

I never got on the Sriracha bandwagon as don't find it tastes nice.

    • That first one looks good. And 3 bottles for $20 seems like a bargain compared to everything else I've seen. I'll have to check out what postage sets me back.

    • Valentina is the correct answer. I bought a bunch (like 12, all highly rated, different countries and regions) of hot sauces, tried them all - finished this bottle first it was SO DAMN GOOD.

Now I'm trying to begrudgingly finish these other sauces so I can replace them all with Valentina.

Valentina is the only true answer. For $1 less you can buy the 300ml option on Amazon too.

    • I really like this one but can never find it in stock in Woolworths.

  • KFC supercharger sauce

  • Try some Extra Hot Sambal - usually about $2.50 a bottle.

I've gotten a bunch of the Hot Ones Sauces. They're really tasty, but they're not cheap. Landed, they end up about $25 a bottle. Considering they last longer than a bottle of wine, and are probably healthier than that, at around the same cost, they're great value - if you must justify spice to yourself and your loved ones.

  • Chilli Willies. My fave:
    https://chilliwillies.com.au/product/smack-my-ass-and-call-m…

Check their website out- their hot sauces are not just "burn your tongue" hot but have good flavour as well. They make great gifts too with names like "Fire in the Hole" and "Rectum Wrecker".

  • Not my ‘favourite’ but a good staple that’s available in the super market and frequently on special is franks xtra hot https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/52145

It’s sometimes available at Aldi on special buys or limited edition in a larger bottle - when I can find it a buy a lot. I don’t think coles does the xtra hot version.

i must be the only person that isnt a fan of sriracha (the green rooster one)

    to me its highly overrated

I'm not much of a hot sauce connoisseur but I really like Melbourne Hot Sauce's Smoked Jalapeno hot sauce.

  • -2

Tabasco or Rays Buffalo for commercial stuff. But a workmate makes homemade hot sauce using home grown produce from himself and his neighbours. Usually a mix of jalapeno, birds eye, Trinidad scorpion and ghost chillies with varying amount of each ingredient. So far they've all been extremely tasty and perfectly proper hot.

Melbourne Hot Sauce. They had a mixed pack deal that went off on Ozbargain. Great variety and levels of heat!

  • Culleys No. 10 Carolina Reaper.

  • The Nando's Extra Bloody Hot.

Enough hot without overwhelming everything else.

  • Byron Bay Coconut Chilli Sauce at Woolies, it's the same sauce you get a Hog's Breath Steak House. love it
