Hi, have you tried out the parental controls on this?

I am looking for something which does app level parental control for the mobile devices

      Thank you

      • @ramanan No I haven't bothered… The App is ok but I' just set & forget… Only had to reset the router once otherwise no issues

        • @thePunchingBag appreciate your response.

      • +1

Yeah I have, easy to use. The kicker is that the parental controls are a subscription service. You get a month free then it's $99.99 but there is a 50% discount for the first year ($49.99)
edit: my experience is based off the Orbi RBK852 AX6000

        • @BillyBroYo , thanks for your response

  • How are these bad boys compared to x60 setup?

    • +1

X20 is dual band AX3000 while this is tri-band AX4200. If you are to link the nodes wirelessly then this can perform a lot better as the backhaul bandwidth is twice as much (2400Mbps / 2 = 1200Mbps on X20 as the 5Ghz bandwidth will be shared for backhaul and device traffic, vs 2400Mbps dedicated backhaul on RBK752)

    • Just priced matched the last one at Doncaster.

      • Sorry. Price beat. $540.55.

    • +1

Do OW price beat Prime only, member prices?

      • +1

        That's a good point, I overlooked that it's a Prime exclusive.
Considering they don't PB Costco, I'm assuming the user got lucky.
Great device but the RT-AX86U is doing me just fine at the moment.

  • Trying to decide between these or Asus XT8 which is AX6600. I know that the Asus theoretically would be faster and give better coverage than these Orbis, but I also read that the XT8 firmware can be quite temperamental and they also cost almost $300 more.

    • might come down to that elusive cost-benefit ratio
      (and how tight you are!)

    • +2

Doubt it would be worth the extra $300

    • +1

If you have an NVidia Shield then avoid Asus routers like the plague. Pretty bad compatibility issues totally cleared up when I switched from the XT8 to the Orbi.

      • What sort of issues? I've got an old RT-AC88U and have been thinking about getting a shield since I sold my media PC.
        - running Merlin firmware too.

        • Just lots of drop outs and random poor performance. If you google 'asus router nvidia shield you'll find a few discussions about it.

          • @fatpizza: Might be good to know the specific model so people don't make a blanket assumption.
My RT-AC88U has been rock solid since June 2018 with about 10 wireless devices and 4 ethernet connections.
My only issue with it ever is that sometimes when I connect a USB SSD to the USB port it doesn't show up on the network - but ejecting and reconnecting usually resolves that

      • I'm running the Asus XD6 with a couple of NVidia Shields through the house, no problems at all.

    • Get the XT8s when they're on sale. I'm pretty happy with my XT8 setup which I bought in this deal for $637 (less discounted gift cards).

  • +1

This or wait for another deal on Ubiquiti U6 pros?

  • +10

$519 on GG commercial plus $8 delivery.

    • Also $778 plus delivery for the three pack (as it's indicated here some want or have the three pack) :)

  • +1

Finally starting to come down in price. Good to see. Need the 3 pack for my place though.

I have two AX6000 and two AX4200 satellites. Works well most of the time, it drops internet connection from time to time and needs reboot, but less often after latest firmware upgrade.
I will say my old Asus router was more stable than Orbi.

    • Had the AX4200 3 pack for over 7 months, never had any dropouts or had to reboot the router to restore my internet connection. It has been extremely stable.
Are you using a mix of AX6000 and AX42000 satellites in one network ? While they are technically compatible I wonder if your issues are due to running two types of nodes. Because Netgear doesn’t openly promote compatibility between their Orbi systems like Asus does with their AI mesh, so there could be some issues.

  • I’m not sure if someone here would know, but I bought the AC3000 router + satellite from one of the last deals. No drop outs so far and the signal is excellent compared to Telstra’s Smart Modem 2. Something weird happened the other night though. I was downloading Tiny Tina’s Wonderland on the Epic Games launcher, and the PC I was downloading on was fine. But every other device in my home (5 or so devices being used at once) slowed to a crawl, like 3-5Mbps. I have NBN100.

Is there some additional setup I need to do to stop this from happening?

    • +1

i mean thats typically how a network works. You would need to setup per device bandwidth throttling,i dare say that router should be able to do it, just guarantess that one device on the network doesnt take the entire bandwidth of your internet connection.

    • +1

There would be ways within router settings for a more general solution but I have very basic network knowledge.

What I do is just limit the max download speed within epic/steam/origin settings to ensure there's bandwidth left for other users.

  • Have they fixed the issue where you can't split out the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands?

I had the RBK852 (AX6000) model and apparently they removed the capability to split the bands. Wasn't a great experience because it wasn't switching properly between the 2 bands on my devices.

    • +1

      Nope

    • +1

I made the guest account as a dedicated 5ghz only network. There's instructions on the net how to do this. Works great as a dedicated 5ghz network for my Oculus Quest 2

    • Band steering (on supported devices) work great , means you can connect to the lower band automatically when you require range, rather than drop the entire signal then migrates automatically to 5g when your closer and signal is good. 5g has limited range and performance drops off like a cliff, so see why they don't split out the bands.
But if you must, configure Guest for lower band and main for higher.

    • Does this mean a robot vacuum couldn't connect onto this? Since they usually connect on 2.4Ghz

      • 2.4Ghz devices will work just fine, I have a bunch of 2.4Ghz IoT devices linked up to my RBK753 system.
And setting up 2.4Ghz devices that require your smartphone to be on the same 2.4Ghz band will not be an issue either because you can temporarily disable the 5Ghz band during the setup (so you don't have to use any workarounds like with previous gen Orbi systems).

  • For those on Telstra and use VOIP, do you lose VOIP functionality when setting the Telstra Smart Modem to bridge mode in order to use the Orbi as the Router?

  • -1

    Good guys commercial $519

  • -2

Any 5G modem? Huawei has the best but is not available here in Australia?

  • good guys commercial - $514 plus shipping and AX6000 version $768 plus shipping.

    • or 7% discount on amazon cards from amazon plus cashback.

      • may i know where you get 7% discount on amazon cards? i always see 2-3%

        • suncorp app

          • +1

            @yeohkt: Isn't Suncorp only 3% on Amazon?

  • If only they weren't so ugly

    • TIL routers are supposed to be decorative.

      • Why should anything need to be aesthetic if it's functional? But reality is, it is a consideration otherwise there would be no differentiation (to the manufacturer) and mightnt value add to the home decor (to the consumer) especially in the context of being large, needing to be high, needing to be in the open, essentially in a spot thats visible to the eye

On another note, this or X68 TPLINK 3 pack? That's what I'm sort of hanging out for… any one with technical detail able to comment?

      • That's how TP-Link came up with the name "Deco".

  • I've had these for 18 months now they've been pretty much flawless. I got this exact package router+satellite.

Really want a third one but at $500 for one satellite the pricing is ridiculous. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/netgear-or…

  • It seems they're making room for the RBKE963.
Comes in black as well: https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/rbke963b/
That looks so much better than white IMO.

    • +1

Looks really nice ~ Quad band technology, sounds expensive :P

  • are these much better than the RBK50?

    • Not enough benefits for a upgrade imo

      • Yeah, no real point. It's a lot of money for minimal upgrade

      • Depends on the change over fee, once you take into account what you can currently sell your old RBK50 for.

    • +2

Depends, I upgraded from a RBK33 (AC2200) to an RBK753. My LAN WiFi speed almost doubled from around 2~400Mbps to 4~900Mbps throughout the house.
If you are considering spending ~$360 on a RBK50 vs $560 on this, then this IMHO is a much better buy. But if you already have a RBK50 and only after sharing a 100Mbps internet connection over WiFi then the improvement may not be worth upgrading.

  • They still have that god awful slow recycled UI from 2005 on these?

    • Don't think so. Their mobile management app is pretty new. Online admin web UI is pretty functional and it has great deal of controls.

      • Was referring more to the Web UI. I had the rbk50 and the interface was the same as the old n600 I had lying around except a couple of features slapped on top that sorta worked. Was still as slow as the n600…

        • Web UI looks very similar to the previous gen Orbi mesh systems like the RBK50.

  • Should i buy this to replace router was provided by Belong ? Using it atm and terrible coverage
Is this plug and play ?

    • Should i buy this to replace router was provided by Belong ? Using it atm and terrible coverage

This will definitely have much better coverage and speed over any ISP provided single wifi router

Is this plug and play ?

There is some configuration involved, depending on how you want to set these up and your internet config, but its pretty easy to setup.

      • thanks mate , ordered one

    • Put one in bridge mode, so you don’t have double NAT issues

  • Anyone bought TP-Link Deco X75 which is tri-band and much cheaper $299 for 2. I watched good reviews on utube.

    • Hi mate where did you see the X75 for $299? I'm looking to buy a mesh system for my house. I normally go the Asus route because of the customisation options
