"Alinta Energy, which has 1.1 million customers, was sold by its private owners to Chow Tai Fook Enterprises for $4billion in 2017" Chinese owned for those it matters.

    • FattyHadadi, yes this offer is available in VIC

      • When I click on the link, it doesn't seem VIC is included in the list. This is what appears on the link -

Not bad, asked my current provider (Dodo) to match Alinta and they got close but the $100 gift card tipped it over.

  • +1

For what it's worth, Alinta's customer service has been the worst I've ever experienced. But I guess if you never have to deal with them, electricity is electricity…

    • +3

totally incompetent customer service beyond belief, had to threaten ombudsman & an email to the ceo to get them to rectify their total and utter cock up

    • +1

Still not as bad (so far) as my experiences with Energy Australia.
      Man - those guys!

This is just spam posting now. This deal gets posted almost fortnightly

    • "almost fortnightly" - this Deal is the 5th Econnex-Alinta $200 gift card offer in last 6mths
Mods have already decided this is not a Dupe as Reported.

Handy for me, as this offer arrived just as I was changing reseller. But I'm not a fan of Econnex.

Econnex comparison platform. Econnex is independent from the retailers, we provide an exclusive offer to customers to help them get better deals. Econnex does not control the price of the market offers we are just supplying the additional benefits.

Compared prices based on uploaded bill:
    https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/
    https://www.canstarblue.com.au/electricity/

Am currently on cheapest electricity provider in Brisbane. But that takes into account joining credit of $100.

Only paid ~$60 for a year (single household, no solar, $100 retailer credit, Qld Govt $50/yr electricity asset ownership dividend + $340.85/yr concession rebate).

Now worth changing retailer (for 30+d) as last credit has been used. Then check again!
Alinta is about same price for me & grocery prices are going up.

    • Care to share provider and plan…?

      • Nextr (Nextr Friends Clean) - 100% carbon offset, rates fixed for 1yr.

https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/ sorted by cheapest price + discount (based on my bill) shows that provider.

Most providers are similar price in Brisbane, according to that comparison site.

Joined at Westfield stand a year back based on the $100 credit. The $100 was in addition to $50 referrals from friends - it was part of their promotion at that time.

Only current discount showing is "$50 credit on your 2nd bill, if you sign up using a Refer a Friend link from an existing Nectr customer". Friend also receives $50 credit.

No problem encountered, so no idea about Nextr customer service.

        • Cheers stranger mate🙂 looking into it.

          • @txb: Good luck! Electricity supply pricing is a complex matter. What suits one, doesn't suit another.

Was told at the time, $100 credit was only available after sales person at Westfield stand gave me a quote. Could ask Nextr for same offer.

          • @txb: Did a simple spreadsheet to compare.
Very little difference for me (average 110KWh/mth for everything, no gas, no solar).

Nectr was slightly cheaper on supply charge, Alinta slightly cheaper on KWh rate.

So if basic low power user like me, consider plan with lowest supply charge.

But check all those extra fees + T&C.
(e.g. Cheapest SIMPLE plan required membership to NRMA BLUE to continue past the included 1 year membership.)

Averaged $1/mth cheaper with Alinta. But Nectr has fixed rate for 1yr & $50 referral credits, which might be cheaper!

$100 gift card swung it at this time.
Just signed up in this Deal.

            • @INFIDEL: Thanks for sharing your opinion mate. Looking at your insight seems Nectr inst competitive enough when I approached my former provider, Origin, and current, ReAmped. I managed to revive an old quote very much identical in tariff with Origin when I had them jostling vs Reamped. They, Reamped have jacked rates up. Im in a family of 3.5, where a single rate with control load 1 is most appropriate, as you said what suits one dosent another.

Nectr tariffs were slightly higher than the retention quote from Origin (plan to also ask for a $100 credit as what you would get if signing up with a referral. Hoping the rep agrees as a concession to getting my commission + use the seniors rebate we're eligible for. No where near your impressive $60/yr caveman bill though, lol.

              • @txb: Good to read you've got a good deal.
Need to find what best suits your circumstances.

Yes, Nectr is only competitive with credit offer. Otherwise dearer. That's why I moved.

Some other offers including $100 Wish card from Origin & $120 back with ShopBack

caveman bill… More like frugal single-concession-person bill!

Alinta put me on a Demand plan. Didn't expect that. But it's cheap if I use little power 4-9pm.
                Challenge accepted!
Have put main power hungry appliance - fridge, on a timer. Added a power meter. Working out ok.
Will change in 30d if not OK.

Lived totally off grid long ago in mountains behind Gold Coast. Fridge was gas powered. Deep cycle batteries were charged by a single solar panel. Good training to be economical, or the 12v lights go out! Some referred to that as living like a caveman😉

  • These guys have the cheapest rates in my part of Vic by quite a margin.

Supply charge not the best but p/op rates are very good.

  • The plan it tries to sell me is a fixed rate tariff plan but I am already on a time of use tariff and once you go time of use, you can't go back

    Web site should realise that…

    • So long as the retailer is still being charged the TOU tariffs by the network, I don't think it matters what tariff schedule the retailer has you on. That's my understanding.

If the retailer is willing to take the risk of paying TOU network tariffs and receiving flat rate revenue, then that's the retailers issue…

      • What will happen if I sign up is they will put me on a TOU plan that they havent provided any details for.

Whether its better or worse than my current retailer is a total lottery.

Has happened twice before when I've switched into Energy Australia and Red Energy.

These comparison sites are actually generally pretty dumb and most don't handle the TOU plans well at all.

  • TheCandyMan2020, if you are referring to a single rate tariff, please note, we have rates available for the time of use tariff as well on our portal.
To check the rate as per the meter type at your property, please refer to the bill comparison on our portal or click on rates details in the plan.

    • The problem is I already sent you all my details and the plan you matched me with is a single rate plan which my meter doesnt support.

You know my address and meter number so you should know it is TOU

      • Hie TheCandyMan2020 , we would appreciate it if you could share your NMI or send your address and NMI to [email protected] so that we can assist you further.

    • @manyo can we join gas only and get $100 credit?

  • @manyo can we join gas only and get $100 credit?

    • Hie Mr X, according to the retailer's(Alinta Energy) guidelines, cx cannot opt for only gas fuel, either you can opt for only electricity or both.

  • I'm still waiting on the second $100 voucher from February offer! Any idea when it's likely to arrive? Thanks

    • Hey Clarky77! According to terms and conditions, you will receive a Woolworths Supermarket Bonus eGift Card via email up to 120 days after successfully switching your energy, please be advised, In case the switch or connection is canceled within the first 30 days the transaction would be deemed invalid. we would appreciate it if you could share your concern and your details to [email protected] so that we can assist you further.

  • I've just tried to switch online and its asked me the question "Do you have multiple sclerosis?"

Does anyone know why on earth would they need to know, or even ask that specific question; seems very personal and specific for provision of electricity ?

    • Hey cohiba, This question is retailer specified, customers require a separate diagnosis confirming that they are unable to self-regulate their body temperature and If you have a concession card and have Multiple Sclerosis you may be eligible for the Rebate.

    • Just signed up.
So many questions. That was almost all the way to the end!

Wondered the same. Earlier question was if anyone here is on life support. That's important if power fails!

There are govt electricity rebates (to help pay for electricity to run vital equipment) & requirements placed on provider for people with serious medical conditions.

  • What if I want to switch gas only? no bonus?

    • Hey Everest99, according to the retailer's(Alinta Energy) guidelines, cx cannot opt for only gas fuel, either you can opt for only electricity or both.

  • @Manyo There is no reference to OZbargain deal in any of the confirmation emails. How can i make sure that switch is eligible for the 200$ gift card?

    • Hie Gioz, According to terms and conditions, you will receive a Woolworths Supermarket Bonus eGift Card via email if you have switched through https://www.econnex.com.au/Ozbargain-alintaenergy/ up to 120 days after successfully switching your energy, please be advised, In case the switch or connection is canceled within the first 30 days the transaction would be deemed invalid. we would appreciate it, if you could share your details to [email protected] so that we can track your application assist you further.

      • email sent.

        • Hey Gioz, your file has been successfully submitted with Alinta Energy, as per terms and conditions, you will receive your $200 Woolworths Supermarket Bonus eGift Card via email within 120 days.

          Cheers!

  • Just signed up today. It says the offer is valid until 13th May here but just realised the date is 12th May on the landing page. Can OP confirm that the offer ends today? Would be unfortunate to miss out on the conflicting dates that have been posted.

    • +1

OP is the one who extended the Deal from 12 to 13th. See Revisions. So should be fine.

  • Signed up 3pm on 11th
Alinta Welcome Pack emailed on 12th
Account closed at previous retailer on 13th.

Only issue is Rates in Welcome Pack are different to what was expected.
Was moved from flat rate to Demand - not what I wanted. But should be ok, as useage is very low. Will leave if it doesn't work out.

"Rates above are subject to confirmation of distribution zone, network tariff and meter type at your supply address."

    • Checked with Alinta after providing my Concession details at sign up. They didn't have them on my account!

That mistake could have cost up to $340/yr in higher bills!!

  • Better cash offer, but 100d wait for cashback:
Shopback: $120/$171/$70 cashback for electricity /electricity+gas /gas at 12 retailers through Econnex
e.g. Alinta, but not Origin. Likely 30 day min sign up.
