Cheapest home delivery foods options?

Hi,

Been using Menulog, ubereats, Deliveroo and some Chinese food delivery apps but found almost all restaurants have markup premiums on each dish

Even with uberpass paying up to a $10 premium on food with the free delivery since the restaurant marks up the price + service fee?

Any tips for food delivery options? I knew some restaurants kept their original menu price but haven't seen any at all anymore

Order direct and pick it up yourself. Else pay a premium.

Some places on UberEats have started doing BOGOF deals. While most put up a can of drink or chips just to get highlighted, some do have Buy One Get One Free pizzas or main meals on there too.

On menulog look for "delivery by restaurant".

Typically if you order directly from them directly, they'll deliver for free (with a minimum spend) or low fee and they wont mark up the food, compared to take away prices.

      • Our local Chinese restaurant does this for a $5 fee, but as regulars they give us a 1.125l (or 2 cans) of drink, and a free bag of prawn chips (shame I have a shellfish allergy).
And yes the prices are way cheaper than what these services provide. This is what annoys me about Oporto, their App diverts to someone like Menulog, and the prices are 20% higher.

What's the alternative? They don't deliver? They increase prices for take-aways an eat-in customers? I don't think you would be happy with either of those outcomes either.

Ultimately your anger should be directed at these food delivery platforms for offering a service (and making you lazy and fat) that you were perfectly happy without until about 3 years ago.

          • @salmon123: I actually don't use the delivery services etc. I prefer the ability to order ahead, in the hope that it's ready when I get there, as I only have a 30 minute lunch break, and I lose anywhere between 5 to 12 minutes driving there.
Hence why I will goto maccas, KFC, GVG, Pizza Hut or Dominos instead; Otherwise I'll pick up sandwiches from 7/11 or Ampol. I try and keep Deliveries to a minimum, to keep prices down.

The above Chinese Restaurant is in an awkward spot, and has limited parking nearby. There are other Chinese Restaurants nearby, but they have mucked orders up badly in the past.

  • order direct, or sign up for some burner numbers and prepaid credit cards and make use of some cheeky self referrals/new user bonuses.

Check if the local restaurants do delivery themselves as well.
Just found out one of my local does delivery for an extra $3. And prices on uber and menulog have an extra 30% built in to cover fees (I don’t blame owners though). Make no sense to order through these apps for some places.
Worth noting that some other restaurants choose to absorb the fees too, so if you have a code on the app it maybe worthwhile to use it there.

  • Oo thanks for tips will check if the locals do delivery direct.. it's shame there's so many premiums when using those apps

paying up to a $10 premium

The delivery driver and the food-ordering platform has to get paid, so the money has to come from somewhere!

It's for this reason that I almost never use delivery services nowadays.

It's simply become too expensive. By the time the outlet bumps up their price to cover Uber's cut, you can easily be talking a 30%+ premium on your feed for the "benefit" of getting it delivered somewhere over the next hour or so. No thanks.
