Chelsea boots for work

Looking for recommendations for chelsea boots for work. I know R.M. Williams is the favourite. But I can't really fork out $600 per pair. And they rarely go on sale, especially the popular colours. Any other brand recommendations for chelsea boots that can be worn in a corporate environment that'll last and be of decent quality?

I’d recommend dr martens but their quality has gone down hill of recent years. You’ll get a few years out of them though, and substantially cheaper that RMs - maybe around the $200 on sale?

Hush Puppies have some good looking choices and they appear to be 25% off at the moment too.
I've got pair and they are comfy and have worn well.

    • they are good for the price, but i wouldn't wear them for extended periods of standing. i don't know what it is about these boots, but my feet are very comfortable for the first 6 or so hours, but if i am standing a lot, my feet are hurting by the end of the day, right in the middle next to the ball of my feet.

      • get gell inserts maybe from most chemists

        • wouldn't fit me if i got inserts. initially i thought they were too tight (ordered US 10 when i am normally 10.5, in the wide version because i am EE) but they surprisingly broke in a lot quicker than every other shoe / boot i've ever worn, to the point where they were a perfect fit.

          • @[Deactivated]: I kad that problem I just bought boots a size bigger than usal/needed to accomodate the inserts

  • I strongly recommend Julius Marlow chelseas with the O2 motion sole.

I have the Utopia in 3 different colours and once worn in they basically feel like wearing sneakers. Wear is fine so far but have only had them a year or so and there has been a fair bit of lockdown/WFH in that time.

I paid between $100-$180 per pair.

  • You can buy second hand RMs, even new ones for much less than retail, if you hunt for them. In fact, I have 7 pairs and 4 of them were bought through Facebook Marketplace for less than half the price, all brand new or close to it. One pair was bought new on sale through the Iconic, and the latest was bought at full price because I saved up and I really love the colour.

If you absolutely have to have a pair now, you can try Thomas Cook or Baxter. I think they are also Australian made and are very similar to RM.

  • What? Comfort craftsmen go on sale pretty regularly- that being said not so much no because it’s only through select sellers.

  • Bared chelsea boots are really good and podiatrist-recommended. ECCO do some decent ones too at a lower price point

  • Rivers leather chelsea boots

part of the $59 Styles Online Exclusive range

though brown (size 6 -9) are reduced to $48

    $10 delivery.

I bought a pair 4 years ago. wore until covid kicked in (so about 18 months of daily wear and they were still very good.)

why do you need chelsea boots for work? Just a fashion choice? (in which case, I hope you dont work in a city office cos you just look like a private school - probably boarding school although didnt board - grad). I know some places require them for safety and so forth (KFC for example!) but unless you are actually outside on a site or farm or something, yeah. Well, your fashion choice I guess.

and, yes, I work in a corporate office and the handful of people who wear RMs and so forth all went to private schools…

Bludstones are a good choice. If you have to

The OP did NOT say he NEEDED them for work.

I think the gist of his post was merely that he would like a pair to wear to work. Footwear choices are individual and other than requirements for specific industries, jobs etc, as you have mentioned, who really cares what you wear.

I am intrigued that you went to the trouble to find out which schools your colleagues went to and then extrapolated that into a judgement on their footwear. I guess it takes all sorts to make a world. Perhaps there is a job for you in politics. Pollies are good at taking random rubbish and making a big deal out of it.

      • You don’t need to ask private school people where they went to school. They will tell you.

When there is a 100% correlation between people who wear Chelsea boots with their suit and people who went to a private school, it’s not an extrapolation. You can wear whatever you want, but clothing at work (absent safety etc requirements) is inherently a statement of how you want people to see you. Hence why people don’t wear tracksuits to the office. If you want to wear Chelsea boots with a suit, then you will likely be seen as someone who went to a private school. At least in a purely office environment

What is an extrapolation is your commentary, talking of not only talking rubbish but talking rubbish based on a series of entirely incorrect allegations
