When looking closely on the terms of a few travel insurances, I found something that were shocking to me:
- If you accidentally injure your mates who are travelling with you, your travel insurance won't cover them
- If you accidentally injure anyone in a car crash, your travel insurance won't cover them
I mean WTF? The 2nd point may be OK as CTP covers that, but still, its totally unrelated to the travel insurance.
But for the 1st point, the personal liability part only covers others but not those travelling with you in an accident??? So if I understand it correctly, I could be facing any lawsuit amount coming from them and my travel insurance won't pay a dime for me! I can't understand the rationale behind this clause at all.
What is the type of insurance I need to get to protect myself from that situation?
Maybe the insurer deems it higher risk for groups of friends travelling together and their data suggests higher chance of people that know each other doing stupid things that lead to injuries e.g. pushing mate off a cliff into sea for laughs. It kinda makes sense.
