saw this deal for a similar product from amazon at 3 times the price.

I bought one of these aliexpress kits 7 years ago to repair a small star on my windscreen and mostly hid it. it appears to have stopped the crack from spreading. the car has been sold twice since and it passed road worthy both times so thumbs up for this kit.

AUD price based on AliExpress rate. GST inclusive

    Sure beats the Amazon deal.
But only slightly cheaper than normal eBay price. Or pay $8 and have it this month instead of July.

  • Thanks OP.

Price now AU $5.55 delivered, inc GST

  • Anyone tried this on a phone screen?

Yes, it wont work due to the oleophobic coating.

It may not be an oil; but whatever it is interferes severely.

      Loca glue works OK though.

I wouldn't imagine this to work all that well, however if you do choose to use this kit I would make sure to dig the old glass out of the impact point and use a small amount of acetone to remove the moisture (making sure to let the acetone fully evaporate off before using the resin).

Be warned that if you do attempt this repair and it fails, there will be no coming back as once the resin sets in the crack it can't be removed or repaired again.
If it's done properly there should be no dark shadows/reflections inside the crack - just faint outlines.

Also, cracks don't disappear when repaired, they are still fully visable.

Scratch all the excess resin off the glass, and get a small cheap windscreen polish to even out the surface of the repair to save your wipers.

Don't let the resin touch your skin, or any other part of your body.
Also avoid your paint and wiper blades.

    Comment for more info,
I work for O'Brien AutoGlass and do this every day.

Thanks for sharing this info! Without putting yourself out of a job, what would you recommend as an alternative DIY solution?

Honestly in not sure, I'm used to the kit at work which is worth thousands.

Essentially you want something that is able to pressurize the resin for an extended period of time. That way the readin will find its way all the way to the edges of the crack and fill minor fractures that you might not see.

You also need a UV light to cure the resin correctly, not sure what UV wave to use, but my guess would be UVB. (UV wouldn't cure the resin if the product page asks for direct sunlight and UVC would be overkill).

I'll have a quick look on AliExpress for an alternative but I doubt there will be anything. Most places will just sell these little kits.

        • There isn't anything I can see worth buying. Anything worth it will be expensive, and at that price point you may as well get it done professionally. You wouldn't use the tools enough for it to be worth your money.

You certainly won't be able to get your hands on the stuff that I use as it's proprietary, but you may be able to get the more old-school kits which use a hand pump in order to pressurize the resin.

        • How much is to fix these at O'Brien? If I had the small star cracks for like a year, can it still be fixed?

@SAU: I think the repair is $160 (so a lot more than the $6 off AliExpress) and takes about 30 minutes to complete.

The age of the chip isn't too much of a worry, sometimes it can be hard to get all the moisture out or any other debris that can find its way in - causing the end result not to look very good.

If the chip is small, be aware that it will get bigger before it gets better. We impact the glass with a calibrated centrepunch (designed for glass and glass only) which shocks the glass open, allowing more resin to flow in.
Because of this, it can either cause the chip to grow to a size that is beyond repairable and in the best case scenario it will fill in nicely but appear to be larger than before.

          • @SAU: Cost to fix glass is $0 if you have glass cover on your insurance - check your policy before you pay anything !

            • @Nom: yeah, was going to go to Obrians tomorrow to check if they can fix it. I do have a windscreen cover, but wanted to make sure that it can be fixed or needed whole window replacement

    • cheap windscreen polish to even out the surface of the repair

Ordinary non gel toothpaste used gently will do the same thing. It also removes light scratches

      • Sweet, just need a pad suited to glass. I think they are made of leather
