Data Consumption with Belong Is Unbelievably High

I signed up a sim plan with Belong which gives me 80gb. Previously had Telstra and received 80GB but never maxxed out and always stayed under 50gb usage. This is the second consecutive month with belong and i still have 10 days to go but just 500mb left. My usage hasn't change, i don't download movies etc. Youtube @720p, Social media and browsing.

WTH is going on? I am thinking about reporting them.

      Check your phone's settings to see whats gobbling up the data

    I had something similar, Telstra seems to report quite low, but Optus was reporting high amounts of useage for me. I'm not sure if it has to do with payment amounts (useage was measured at 10mb blocks while telstra was 1mb) or if Youtube uses less on Telstra maybe due to some sort of caching used?
    End of the day I wrote a lot but its not really useful lol, do they have a useage break down by day so you can compare with your telstra one?

    How much data does your phone say has been used?

    Your device should be able to tell you what is being used if you don't believe the retailer.
    Last time I checked, YouTube seemed to be about 1GB per hour.

    Do you have Android or iPhone?

    Check what usage is being reported by the phone itself. If iPhone, reset the usage (Settings>Mobile>Reset Statistics) and monitor. Compare that to what Belong report.

    What unit do Telstra and Belong charge in? Is Telstra billed per KB and Belong per MB or something?

  • Data might be recorded in large blocks. So you may 50kB but it gets recorded as 50MB.

    In all seriousness, I didn't have problems with Belong even when on the 1GB/mth plan

  • Not definitive but i do know that Telstra has certain apps/websites unmetered in terms of data usage.
    i.e. i'm on the 40GB p/m plan & on my last bill i used 27GB but 11GB of it was unmetered.
