Over a million Aussies head to Bali each year (pre-pandemic) surely there's plenty of info for that kind of stuff online already.

$10k lol what are you bring back 😊
I have been 12 times surfing, as much as I love the food/lifestyle/people if I didn’t surf I wouldn’t bother. The place is just too populated now. Good old days are gone and will never return.

Also bringing a boogie board with you on the return flight is no longer the innocuous action that it was back in the day either.

    Don’t take a boogie board.

You can take as much as you want, but you have to declare all money above $10k

    Take 10k cash.
Plenty of helpful folk on every corner that will help you turn that into 10k rupiah.

  • KFC

  • yeah , you need to take cash because there are no ATMs any where, and stores don't take credit cards.

Use some of that $10k to book an onward flight to somewhere that's NOT Bali.

thanks all. I am not taking 10K cash. I am just asking the maximum cash you can take. You guys are … to think i am taking 10K cash.

    • You can take a bank card which can have more than 10K or wear gold decked out like pimp daddy. Will make you popular with the girls and the local thieves

Check out the 'Australian Bali Info for Traveling' group for inspiration and other people asking what you have.

What you want to do depends where you are staying and how adventurous you are. You could spend a day at Waterbom or a day lazing on the beach being brought cocktails.

You can take cash and exchange it there (lots of exchange places, make sure to count how much they give you) or you can find a close ATM and withdraw $100 AUD (1 mil rupiah) when needed.

Fancy hotel in ulawatu with infinity pool - you can buy a day pass and go for lunch etc
Sundays beach club in ulawatu also fun
Def recommend Waterbom park if you like theme parks / water rides…. so much better than our wet n wild

recommend to buy a sim card so you can use Grab app for taxi

  • travel to bali in 2 months. will visit penida island and gili islands. also a few days in ubud

  • Name checks out..

  • I am in the same situation as OP, going to Bali for the first time except next week.
I am seeing some stories online about slow immigration processing at the Indonesian end (up to 3 hours) and getting ripped off by cab drivers and currency exchange.
Anyone have solid advice for a speedy/inexpensive service to speed up airport formalities and cabs, and where/how to get cash and a local SIM card?
    Thanks in advance

Get your hotel to pick you up from the airport. Seriously! Most of them offer it. Will save you getting hassled and scammed by the airport taxi mafia

Bring a bunch of australian notes to exchange (and keep it locked away in your luggage, don't carry it all on you). You can exchange cash at very competitive exchange rates at some reputable money changer branches that are all over the place. Your hotel can do it too but usually at a crappy exchange rate. Don't bother with the carts on the street, obviously, dodgy af. Some brick and mortar places will scam you too though.

Once you run out of cash, you can use ATMS, all the banks are fine, you just pay the banks exchange rate and whatever ATM fee you get stuck with.
