  • Still a terrific phone, nice one.

I love my 12 Pro Max, I could see myself keeping it for quite a few more years

  • Any way to check if it's really brand new?

    • I bought from comp now clearance, brand new iPad. They are an apple authorised retailer and warranty starts when you get the product. Happy with them

If you're planning on getting the 13 Pro Max, save your money and get this instead.

120hz screen, better camera, longer battery life on iPhone 13 PM. You can also buy Apple Giftcard from BigW for ~10% off right now, making the iPhone 13PM 256G effectively $1817, you might also earn some random credit card point as well if you have a decent credit card supplier (e.g. PayPal)

I'd say those extra spec do worth $400 difference, only depends on if the buyer would justify the cost.

      • +1

I guess it depends on the person. I had both, and I honestly didn't notice any difference between the two.

thought was a deal for a single speaker or something

  • Is it refurbished?

    • -1

      Their description does say:

Brand new sealed iPhone Pro Max…

  • Says brand new but something about telling Apple to update warranty?

Also mentions 12 months warranty. When Apple is two…?

    Hmmm

    • I bought a new laptop from them before and have to update warranty with Apple manually. It was simple, you just send the store invoice to Apple online. It may be something to do with them being a corporate seller and not a retail seller, but that's just a guess…

Isn’t it still 1 year through Apple, but consumer laws means it’s covered for 2?

      • +2

consumer laws means it’s covered for 2?

Australian Consumer Law doesn’t specify any set period.

        • I'd reckon 4 years though.

        • +1

Choice says at least 6 years for a flagship phone.

Apple's Limited Warranty is only one year (unless you have an Apple Watch).

If an iPhone was an Australian model iPhone originally purchased in Australia from Apple or an authorised reseller, it will come with consumer protections as outlined by Australia Consumer Law, and this in addition to Apple's Limited Warranty. You'll be covered under consumer guarantees for a reasonable period of time. Apple states you'll be covered for a minimum of 24 months from the date of purchase, but they also acknowledge that you may be eligible for a remedy beyond the aforementioned 24 month timeframe.

I point this out, because if (for example) your iPhone (an Australian iPhone purchased from Apple or an authorised reseller) stopped turning on due to a manufacturing defect 20 months after the purchase date and you went to an Apple Store in the US, the staff would ask you to pay for a replacement iPhone. You can only ask for a remedy under Australian Consumer Law if you went back to the original seller in Australia (or if you contacted Apple in Australia). Apple in the US does not need to honour Australian Consumer Law in that example.

Apple goes into this in more detail than i can be bothered to go into here.

      • Would also cover international seller selling to Australia, but good luck actually getting your warranty.

AS teamfletch mentioned, the listed warranty is 12 months with Apple but due to precedents with high value devices and especially the contracts applicable to many who purchase phones, the expectation is that it should be covered for 24 months.

The notification to Apple will be due to the stock having been dispatched a long time ago and the warranty commencing from a date somewhere along the distributors chain. Same with a laptop I purchased last year in December, says the warranty is from July of that year. Just notify the manufacturer with the invoice and it gets remedied.

Wow, a graphite phone? Great when you haven't got a pencil handy.

  • Seems like a great deal, very tempted but also hesitant

Mothers day present sorted - thanks!

    • It's due to the stock being older (i.e. >12 months) and the distributor or business purchasing it activating the warranty when ordered. As apple has no direct way to interface with the seller's stocking system, it presumes the purchase date is the same as the date it was sent to the seller.

The invoice will allow you to have apple adjust the warranty date accordingly.

So it has been activated/unbricked then… it's no lknger brand new

That is an ill-informed guess. See comments from others.

I'm sure you're well qualified to know just how well informed others on this forum may or may not be.

Risk is yours I guess. I'm just trying to flag the issue.

I did not pluck my opinion out of thin air. Based on my actual purchases in the past, and other commenters' real experiences.

  • Anyone have thoughts on this vs iPhone 13 pro? I don't know how I feel about carrying a brick in my pocket everyday.

    • 12 Pro/ProMax vs 13 Pro:

60Hz static refresh rate Screen vs 120Hz screen with "freesync", 13 Pro will have way smoother animation whilst costing less battery.
slightly better camera, it's standard small upgrade each year so won't be much of a difference.
better CPU but I doubt you'll notice the difference any time soon.
size difference per user's own preference. I don't like Pro Max as it feels too heavy.

    • I own this and missus has 13 Pro. Other than the screen refresh rate, which is noticeable if your eyes are sensitive, I would say the daily performance is pretty much the same.

I bought an Apple Watch from these guys a few years ago (that was labelled as brand-new and sealed), and can confirm that I had no issues validating the purchase date with Apple. I believe they're an Authorised Reseller for Apple, so it should be just like buying from any retailer.

  • Nice price for a great phone 👍

  • +2

I love how theres not one complaint about the price of a flagship let alone a previous model one. Go to the android posts and hear people cry "oooh $1k for a phone…too much :'( "

  • +1

great phone but I wish it had 120hz. It's a powerful phone but 120hz makes a huge difference in the fluidness of the phone (imo)

    • nice to have not a must tho, eat more battery is main reason i guess.
      (daily 240hz monitor user)

      • definitely not a must, but it does make a difference. Thankfully the 13 pro max has a 120hz display.

      • iPhone 13 Pro/Max use dynamic refresh rate called "ProMotion", means if your screen is static, it will reduce its refresh all the way to 10Hz, if you are playing video it will use 24Hz/30Hz etc.

iPhone 13 non-pro or iPhone 12 or lower all use a static refresh rate of 60Hz, no matter what you are doing.

So unless you are swiping your screen non-stop forcing the screen to be refreshed on 120Hz all the time, iPhone 13 Pro screen should use less battery power than iPhone 12 Pro.

  • still using xs max, still dont see the need to upgrade.

  • OOS so wait for ip14 :)

  • Got a brand new 256gb 12 max for $1500 off gumtree mid last year, I used it till the 13 max dropped and the Mrs ever since.
    Both great phones.

Just received mine today and checked the Warranty coverage. Mine expires on May 3, 2023 so I'm guessing I don't need to speak to Apple to get my warranty date updated.
